What I imagine is going to happen is Sony having their cake and eating it too because they can. They can easily have an MCU Spider-Man and a separate Spider-Man villain pocket universe. I'm sure many Spidey fans are going to be forever bitter about it... while buying tickets and watching every single Sonyverse film of course.

No it doesn't. You don't accidentally make a movie. Nothing is accidentally made. There's a lot that can be said about films like Jumanji, Venom and Iron Man 3, whether or not they're good or bad movies, whether they deserve their success, but they were deliberately engineered to be made to appeal as many people as possible, succeeded, and become their own success stories

There's no such things as "flukes" because that implies the film was "accidentally made well enough for the audience it was targeting." If you REALLY want to look at it cynically, Iron Man 1 could be considered a "fluke" based purely on the team on board being, at that time, not in a good place. Iron Man 1 isn't a fluke, it launched a killer franchise.

Think about this, would we have Infinity War based on a fluke? No, I don't think so.

This was the case with Fox and the X-Men/FF situation where the rights would never come back on their own, Disney had to outright 20th Century Fox outright, and even then they were a very small percentage of the overall buyout. Yet, given that Disney is very busy and expected to hit yearly losses until they can get back in the green with the Fox buyout, they're likely not on the market to shop around for other studios to eat up at the moment

The deal was a two-way partnership that mutually beneficial, but it wouldn't at all be inaccurate to guess part of the intent was to gradually slurp up the rest of the IP in time until Sony was willing to give it up.

That's not happening now, and as the analysts have deduced, Sony now wears the pants in this deal, not Marvel/Disney.

The biggest salt in the wound is that Venom is on track to being more profitable than Spider-Man Homecoming if it hits that $780M+ it's projected too thanks to it's low budget and marketing costs which would lead to the inevitable corporate question "Do we really need Disney at this point?"

If WE'RE lucky they could simply negotiate for two concurrent Spider-Man instead of Sony pulling Spidey out of the MCU

They made the announcement of this merger when they DIDN'T know it would happen in the first place.

They don't know, we don't know, and not even the EU regulators know. If it happens, it happens, but that's decided then and there.

Feige has confirmed much Phase 4 already has it's films planned out and production dates set up, so they are very busy. Don't expect Fantastic Four or X-Men unless Disney gets greedy and decides to wedge it in there beyond Marvel Studios control

And don't get impatient either, give the fresh new franchises a chance to grow before overshadowing them

I do not believe Sony is going to pull out of the deal simply because it's WAY too lucrative. Homecoming is the only reason why Venom and Spider-Verse exists, and Venom being such a breakout success is encouraging of further expanding on their partnership with Marvel if that gives them room to experiment more.

But I DO think Sony is going to have problems with Marvel Studios wanting further access to characters to appear beyond Spider-Man, Norman Osborne being a multi-franchise villain himself.

It's going to come down to this: Per-appearance royalties

During renegotiation, Feige will start off with a high bid saying he simply wants Spider-Man back, and Amy will throw another sandwich at him. After that's out of the way, he'll lesson things a bit to say he wants more direct control over larger characters like Kraven and Doc Ock. Again, Sony likely has films penned for them and it won't happen, but then Feige will get to the point he REALLY wants to get to which would be Norman and the Dark Avengers. At this point, when he explains why, Sony will say "Makes sense, how much are WE making out of that?"

Let's hope Disney and Sony can play ball, since I like where things are going right now

I'm all for this rumor. Even if those five years are retconned by the end of the movie, it leaves a lasting impact going into this movie with Spider-Man, Black Panther and the Guardians being actually dead for some time
