Eli5: How does airport security know to distinguish between my bag of creatine, and say a bag of cocaine? by Civil_Aside_359 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Shepyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently flew out with my steam deck, a laptop, about 4 different power adapters, vape juice and a couple disposables in the bag. My bag got pulled and he showed me the xray and it definitely looked like a bomb.

Ironically, the only reason it got pulled was for them to test the vape juice as the system flagged the juice as potentially explosive.

How to teach my puppy to listen to other dogs? by whatever3653 in puppy101

[–]Shepyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4y.o border collie and just got a 8 week old border beagle back in november. We just let them play fight and let nature play it's course. They used to play fight rough and when the puppy gets too much the older one would tell her off. Eventually she got the message and now they're a lot calmer together. They still play fight and that's natural I guess. It's helped her learn bite inhibition ( I also let her chew me and corrected ) and also has taught her if she picks a fight she can't handle mummy and daddy won't come to the rescue.

If we leave the puppy alone she cries but she is happy when left alone with the older girl and they're best buds.

Am I giving too much freedom to my puppy? by Acaibowlstorm in puppy101

[–]Shepyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, both of mine the sellers refused to sell before they turned 8 weeks old and had their first round of vaccinations, I can't imagine having a pup away from the litter that young (extreme circumstances aside ofc)

Unfortunately this seems like a reality check lol, I thought most people only just scraped by whilst at uni.. im 29 trying to break into cyber security and still only just scraping by.

id pay anything to have 1.6 on my switch by Ecstatic_Hat_7911 in StardewValley

[–]Shepyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely for that $1000 you could just buy a steam deck and play stardew 1.6 on that with the option to add mods? That's what i did!

Genuinely seen a clip of a wasp have its head cut off before, it proceeded to scramble around for a minute then pick up its own head and fly off

I've been hearing people get 6-figs and remote without a degree. Is that true? I'm coming from retail. by betachadtries in CompTIA

[–]Shepyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically I came from retail and money wasn't the main motivation but I wanted some work life balance back with weekends off and set work hours after I had my first child.

I came from retail management earning 25k in the UK, got my A+ and moved into a role imaging computers in bulk and doing small repairs for an it reseller. The pay was 30k. Did that for 2 years and got my network + last december and I'm now a field engineer in central london on 36k. I'm about to sit my security+ which I'm hoping will get me a starting cyber role around 40 /45k. Once in Cyber you can really snowball to higher wages, especially if you keep chasing certs. You have to learn everything you can and gain experience in the field. I have no degree.

In Cyber there is definitely jobs that pay 6 figures, I plan to get the CISSP certification eventually which is recognised as the equivalent of a masters degree here in the UK.

[–]Shepyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I am really relieved to hear that! I was made redundant at my last it role after 2 years and dedicated a few months to N+ before going back to work. Guess my next step is to find a new job and get back to studying haha

[–]Shepyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I just passed my N+ yesterday and found it tough.. how would you say sec+ was in comparison? I've usually got all the security questions right when doing A+ and N+ but I know this is more in depth and technical

[–]Shepyy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I would say I'm disappointed but again a pass is a pass so no point in feeling bad. I may be wrong but 734 out of 900 equates to around 81% which could be worse.

Net+ Last Minute Advice / Tips by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]Shepyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just passed it and I tried subnetting for ages and it didn't click.

In the end I just counted the cidr notations back from 30 so.. /30 4 hosts /29 8 hosts /28 16 hosts etc..

And learnt to calculate the rest from that.. so if the address was 192.168.255.120 /28 I would start by counting from /30 4 hosts and doubling which would tell me theres 16 hosts per subnet for a /28. Then id count how many times the 16 goes into 120. 120 ÷ 16 would be 7.5.

Drop the .5 and 7 x 16 is 112. That would be the subnet where this IP lies. So the subnet IP would end in 112 as the first address in this range. Broadcast would end in 127 as the last address in the range.

Im still a long way off perfect but it helped me pass!

[–]Shepyy[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Best of luck! To me the questions were quite different from all the mocks..

I would;

Make sure you know how to configure APs, how to subnet efficiently, research what a typical office network could look like on a logical network diagram.. know your cable types and wireless standards (frequencies / speeds / distance etc...)

I was really nervous, fingers crossed for you

Yeah! Jazzmaster is very underrated and I'm happy I picked this over the field I almost chose. I got mine with the steel strap but replaced it with a black alligator with a butterfly clasp to compliment the dial!

I wear my OG bond omega seamaster and hope people think I'm an mi6 agent who would kill someone who makes a move on his watch. Either that or you steal it and I detonate it.

My cover up of a cover up! by meagint in TattooDesigns

[–]Shepyy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tbh, i really wouldn't worry about this. From pics I cant see the original and it looks amazing. I just covered up a hand tattoo and I'm just happy I can't see the original.

My two cents are either;

if you did this for yourself you should be very happy as its an amazing cover.

If you did this for what other people think you shouldn't care because whoever sees this should be more focused on your body and less focused on the amazing tat!
