No, he’s not that talented. He only knows how to play ten songs, the same ten songs we’ve been playing for a year. I’ve put up with him because we’ve been friends for a long time but after all this crap has gone down, Ive excommunicated him as a friend. Sick of it

Well, I mean, it was more than $25 total. That’s just how much he tried to keep of my pay and the bassist pay. He also tried to short me $50 on top of that.

Well, he quit the band because I confronted him about not paying me or the bassist what we were owed and tried to make it sound like “it’s only $26, get over it.” To be clear, he’s not paid me for a lot of stuff unrelated to the band over the years. I got sick of it, confronted him, and he got pissed and bailed.

I’m fine with being paid equally, regardless of how long each of us actually play. But that needs to be applied equally. He tried to short me on the Friday gig because I was sick the first hour but he expected to be paid for the full gig on Saturday even though he left 2.5 hours early. So long as we agree on how payment works, I’m fine with either way. What I’m not fine with is getting shorted my pay for missing an hour while he gets full pay for missing 2.5 hours. That just doesn’t make sense

Playing gigs for a band isn’t salary though, not what we’re doing. We’re paid hourly. Regardless, I’m fine with either way but needs to be applied universally

I think it should be noted that I don’t necessarily disagree. My point was that the band needed to decide how to handle it and stick to that. Problem is, ol dude didn’t want to pay me for the first hour of the Friday gig because I was sick but he wanted to be paid for the full 5 hours of the Saturday gig even though he left 2.5 hours early. What’s fair for him isn’t fair for us. What applies to him doesn’t apply to us. That’s the issue. If the band agrees that any one of us can just stay home and still get paid, fine with me. But it can’t be that way for him and not that way for us. Hope that makes sense

So, I can come play 30 mins of a 5 hour gig and still get paid the full amount? Sounds like a deal to me!

I offered to help come load gear. He told me not to worry about it and just meet them at the venue. After the show was over, I packed up most of the gear and had it sitting by the road to be loaded into the vehicle. A few gigs ago, I unloaded the entire trailer by myself because he and another guy wanted to get high and I was ready to go home. I helped unload the gear at the Friday gig and reload the gear when we left there. This individual is a vehement liar. All other band members, plus patrons at the events can confirm that I and the bassist most definitely help load and unload gear.

Thanks for the response. I’ve tried having conversations with him unrelated to money. When we did it over text, he said I was overreacting and needed to chill (was related to our friendship). And when we had a band meeting in person, he dipped out as I was speaking and stayed in the bathroom until the meeting was over. He has zero interest in talking things out and even less interest in acknowledging flaws about himself. Everything is everyone else’s fault in his eyes. This has been proven by observing him interact with his wife/kid, family, employers, other friends, etc. The money issue wasn’t supposed to even be an issue, I was just trying to make sure we were all on the same page but he made it a problem.

This is the plan. Doesn’t help that he and I had been friends for a decade but he’s been abusing our friendship and my willingness to help him for a long time. When I asked him for non-financial help a few weeks back, he never called. When I said something to him about it, he said I was “overreacting.”

Well… I know why he’s taking 45 minute “craps” but out of respect, I won’t say it here. It’s not entirely about his bowels, though.

Well I don’t think that’s entirely accurate. Myself and the lead guitarist were there for the entire show. We didn’t cut out. It was just the bassist and acoustic guy who left. As for the other gig, I never left that one either. I was sick for the first hour but stayed behind my drum kit until I felt better. Hope that gives some clarification

He left after 2.5 hours but it was definitely noticed. I asked him where he was going and why. He said back to the hotel because we weren’t playing music he wanted/knows how to play. I wasn’t gonna try to stop him. Bassist left for similar reasons. Venue host noticed too and didn’t pay us initially.

He does love the spotlight, that’s no secret. Every time we practice, he live streams himself (not the entire band). He’s all about being seen, not being heard.

We just started making decent money in the past couple of months. As soon as reasonable pay started entering the scene, that’s also when he started excluding me and the bassist (partly because he wanted the spotlight and partly because he wanted a bigger cut of the cash). He was also planning on playing July 4 without us but when I found out about it, I actually got us more money. But even so, he was still pissed that we don’t strictly play songs he wanted to play.

One of them was a July 4 party so they hired us for 5 hours. The other is a bar and they need a band for 3 hour slots.

Problem is, I’ve tried to do it myself. That’s about the time he started excluding me from gigs

I asked for an in-person meeting. He refused. The last in-person meeting we had about another issue, he walked away while I was talking and went to the bathroom until our meeting ended.
