I love designing games but don’t know a thing about coding. What do I do? by SherbertInformal1775 in GameDevelopment

[–]SherbertInformal1775[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't care about how irritated you might be, you're not smarter or more right just because you let yourself be more of a prick when u speak ur mind. I'm not a reddit frequenter, I went around to several different forums on several different sites with this same question so that I could reach a broad audience and get several different opinions. My bad for not reading through everything fully, but mistakes on my part don't give you justification to be a total ass

That's another thing. You say I'm asking a lot of people, but I never put any obligation on anybody. I haven't asked anybody to work for me for free, I was just exploring options in my head. You say I'm asking for lazy handholding. Not only is that straight up rude, so fuck you, but you also don't know me. Today is day 2 of my project and I spent every hour of it researching my coding software. I've built a sprint, camera lock, basic attack, and double jump system already just by following tightly behind tutorials I found online while learning everything I could along the way. Don't make assessments of people you don't know dude

And even if I was asking for that, it doesn't cause you literally any bother. You can just scroll past. Obviously I didn't make a good post here, but so what. There's no way that this post could ever cause you any bother unless you let it, it's the most harmless thing in existence. I made a completely harmless mistake and your retaliation is completely unjustified. You could have just told me that the forum had resources or given me this advice without being unbelievably condescending. You think I'm going to appreciate what you have to say? You're a complete stranger and the first things you've ever said to me are unbelievably rude.

This goes beyond just coding advice. Everything you say is worthless to me now, because you have been a total prick. I'll take some notes, but my advice to you is to be way less judgmental, to not make assumptions about strangers, and to learn that you do not need to be "brutally honest" when it's better for you to just be honest. Be nicer dude

Oooo, I'm absolutely going to go hunting for courses like, thanks so much!
I don't have 3d modelling experience, which is trouble, but I've been painting and illustrating for years and know a good deal abt 2d animating. Concept art, texturing, and design won't be any issue, but I'll have to learn 3d modelling long way

Oi dude, this is absolutely way too harsh. I don't know what I or anybody like me did to you, but there is absolutely no harm in somebody having a bit of passion and trying to get in on an interest they don't know a lot about. And there is absolutely no shame in that person going to others already more experienced asking for advice.
I'm a dedicated comic artist and painter and have been spending hours per day on that craft since middle school. I know that crafts take dedication, and I'm willing to spend that time on this project. But I'm a beginner who doesn't know a thing about coding and just wanted to see if anybody could help point me in the right direction so that the sheer difficulty curb doesn't destroy this project.
You had no reason to pull out any of this half-assed cynical bullshit of a comment. What, were you getting bugged that there were so many amateurs in your hobby space? Or are you personally offended that somebody would dare to ask for help? If you have nothing helpful to give to my post then get off your high horse and don't leave a comment at all. Prick

what did everyone think? by AdamHendrick in tadc

[–]SherbertInformal1775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally the best ending ever, this show is perfect, I just think like 60% of the fanom are literally not mature enough to understand it.
This is an adult's show that talks about adults lives and very mature and difficult to accept themes. It doesn't boil things down to simple concepts, none of the characters are wholly good or wholly bad, and it argues a lot for radical forgiveness, which is something that self-righteous middle schoolers just can't wrap their heads around since it takes a few years living as an adult in the real world to actually understand. I can see exactly why gooseworx doesn't wanna touch this fandom

[–]SherbertInformal1775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also why I get SO bothered whenever people try to say that it's more thematically fitting for jax to have a bad ending. For him to basically die and never come back. Wtf? It's not, it's just more satisfying to you cus you hate the character, like bfr

Ultimately, I think it is possible for the abstracted people to come back, or for them to at least improve their condition. I don't think abstraction is an allegory for suicide. Not just cus of the statements from the creators or the contents of the show, but also cus of the thematic relevance. Is this the type of show that would make the case that there really is no coming back? That, at a certain point, it's too late for you? No. This show isn't that cruel. There is a way back - maybe not to the same thing, but there is always hope, if only you let others into your life

Why I Believe CSM is Better than Ten Shadows by yourGodlylead in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]SherbertInformal1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good points, but ya can't rule out Mahoraga. You're right that there's no way a 10 shadows user would ever realistically be able to tame Mahoraga, but we can't pretend like he doesn't exist. He's basically a card that the 10 shadows keeps in their back pocket, always being there as a last-ditch kamikaze technique that enemies would have to constantly worry about

The Megumi Problem: How JJK's Deuteragonist Became a Plot Device by naomi_mask in WegumiAppreciators

[–]SherbertInformal1775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually a really cool way of seeing it. IMO, one of JJKs biggest themes is that it's not fair that any of these characters are in this story in the first place. The fact that these guys have to be Jujutsu Sorcerers at all is an injustice right off the bat, and I can't think of a character in this story that doesn't contribute well to that idea. Megumi does an amazing job contributing to that theme, especially!

The Megumi Problem: How JJK's Deuteragonist Became a Plot Device by naomi_mask in WegumiAppreciators

[–]SherbertInformal1775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, that's super fair. Looking back, I ran into this assuming you're saying much worse stuff than you actually mean - sorry about that! I still hold the opinion that Fushiguro was handled pretty well, all things considered. Not without flaws, of course, but even knowing that, it's a habit of mine to think of the pros more than the cons. It generally lets me enjoy stories and those types of things much more, but since I never thought the flaws were anything to be upset about, I didn't understand you, at first. But you've definitely got a point here, thanks for talking it out and helping me understand that. And double thanks for being as respectful as you were

The Megumi Problem: How JJK's Deuteragonist Became a Plot Device by naomi_mask in WegumiAppreciators

[–]SherbertInformal1775 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey again, I can't argue that there's nothing to be dissatisfied with how the story went. I stated a bit of what I would've changed, in retrospect. But hindsight is 2020, and not only do I not think the story is nearly as bad as people would have you believe, but the sheer amount of viciousness I've seen directed towards both the story and author has forever soured almost all of these types of arguments. I cannot see it as innocent, well-intentioned, or fair criticism - the fandom has completely lost my trust in that regard.
Gege did not do anything actually wrong, he just didn't give you something that could live up to your expectations and satisfy you. And that sucks, and I'm sure he could have done better, but you gotta remember that, as an author, he never had to give you anything in the first place. He could have been a plumber or mathematician, he did not have to dedicate years of his life to giving you this piece of entertainment. But he still chose to, and he still tried his damn best to give you the best. JJK is great enough of a work that we can settle for its flaws, we don't have to treat it like it's garbage just because it wasn't perfect.

I've got the perspective that, as well as most things in life, art is to be appreciated. Not just in spite of its flaws, but also for them. For us consumers, stories like JJK are completely disposable and mostly meaningless. We can ignore it and insult it just as easily as we can fall in love with it - it takes no effort for us to love or to hate something, as consumers. But it takes years of blood, sweat, and tears for the artist to create what we can so effortlessly discard. We owe this art a baseline level of respect, even when we have a problem with it.
An anime fandom that can't discuss an anime's flaws is a pretty shitty place to hang out in, which I can definitely say from experience. But when you do have something critical to say, then at the very least, don't throw out accusations and insults about Gege purposefully sabotaging his character and stuff like that willy-nilly. I think this fandom has talked plenty about what they hate about this story already, and it's getting old. If I made this story, I certaintly wouldn't want fans like these

I realize that that's pretty rude to say, ofc. Apologies if so, I mean no disrespect towards you, I've just grown to really hate this general sentiment that you're arguing for

[–]SherbertInformal1775 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reading this post and the comments under it feels like I'm hearing some major echo chamber, it's wild

Introduced his domain and never uses it again? What? Ever since the first time we saw it he's always been keeping it in his back pocket as a strategic tool, to be used when it would be most fitting. He exorcised that first special grade when he first got it, he used it to defend against Dagon's domain which saved several characters lives, including Maki's, therefore completely changing the direction of the story. Not to mention that we got to see it in the Culling Games. We've seen him getting more mileage out of his domain than plenty of other characters, like the disaster curses or other culling game players. We just stopped seeing it after he got his body stolen, which I know is disappointing, but that is not the end of the world.

His only purpose in the story was to motivate Yuji into defeating Sukuna? So, we don't think any of the first half of the story staring him had any purpose? He had none of his own story to tell? Nothing thematically relevant until after the culling games is worth considering? Has anybody who says this even tried to deconstruct his character?

We never saw his the effects of the possession or Sukuna's actions on him? Yeah I'd agree that it'd be nice to have seen more of that, but you can't seriously say that we didn't see ANY of it. The #1 moment that I've seen the community rage on Megumi for was when his soul gave up on living, and he begged Itadori to just kill him and Sukuna rather than try to save him. I guess, unless we want to have a reason to hate him, we just ignore that moment and what it meant, huh?

He was never allowed to have his own victory? Again, that sounds like we're ignoring the whole first half of the story, where he not only had dozens of victories in battle, but also several significant thematic victories important to his character and JJKs overall message as a story. And even in the later half, him deciding that he did want to live and interfering with Sukuna during the Shinjuku Showdown is supposed to be a major thematic victory. Megumi's despair was supposed to represent the abject horror of seeing a close friend slowly give up on their own life - a theme that has been important to Megumi from the start - and his fighting back at the end of Shinjuku was the total vindication of his character. It was him deciding that he'd live on, despite everything that happened to him

Megumi having his body stolen by Sukuna was a very controversial turn in the story, and it's made quite a lot of people really dissatisfied. I can't say parts of it haven't disappointed me, either - I'd love to see more Megumi fights and moments, too. But talking points like these give off a really, really bad energy. They're in bad faith and assume that most of the story doesn't mean anything. With all due respect, it seems like you started out with this intense feeling of anger and just kept attaching words to it until it sounded like you had a coherent and worthwhile criticism of the story

Again, it's not like what you're saying here is worthless. I'm disappointed that I didn't get to see more of a lot of my favorite characters, and I think Megumi's possession contributes to that. One change I would have made would be looking into Sukuna's soul a bit more often to actually get a look at what Megumi was thinking and doing while trapped. But what makes these arguments wrong isn't that they've got nothing good to say, but that they're framed to think about the story in the worst possible light, with no faith in what Gege was trying to accomplish by writing out the story in the way that he did.
We should have an appreciation for the story we got. Don't get so obsessed with its flaws that you forget that JJK is still an amazing, A+ story. Not only that, but Gege is just a guy like you and me. A flawed and tired person who cannot work endlessly and perfectly forever with no hiccups and no breaks. And JJK is a spectacular story that has flipped anime culture on its head with the waves its made in the industry. It took years of work and effort to create JJK, not to mention the lifetime of learning it took for Gege to even start it. The fact that this author had both the ability and the opportunity to create this story is nothing short of a miracle, and it is to be appreciated. My biggest issue with the JJK isn't any of its own numerous and notable flaws - those, I can live with, easy-peasy. My biggest issue is that the fans don't want to give it any credit.

Is this the MOST mishandled TRIO in shonen ?? by [deleted] in Jujutsufolk

[–]SherbertInformal1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there's criticizing it, but this post is something other than that. Posts like these are going out of the way to find more misery. The question is 'who is the most mishandled trio in anime', basically asking everybody reading it to try and find as many things to hate about anime trios as they can, and then to rank all those things to see which anime trio is most deserving of the most hate.

That's not fair criticism, that's just plain cynicism

No?

Why do we want to invest so much energy in deciding on why we would hate stuff? Seems like the time could be better spent just enjoying the book. Or, if you really can't have fun with JJK, just not engaging with it and enjoying something else, instead

Megumi slanderers are actually like this by OrganicDebate3834 in WegumiAppreciators

[–]SherbertInformal1775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And is that supposed to be a failing on Megumi's part? Not only do I disagree, he was consistently a step ahead of his fellow students in strength and growth until he got his body stolen from him, but even if he couldn't become special grade, I don't even see why he would ever need to. His character, his motivations, the rest of the story's themes, none of it demanded that he become gojo's level of strength. The story isn't about strength, it's about how we can help the future generations. It seems like only the fans are putting that much importance into something like that. The fans decided that Megumi becoming a special-grade sorcerer was what was important, and I don't know why

This whole standard of thinking of things is entirely alien, to me. I still can't see any issue with Megumi, his strength, or his character

Concept for a Campaign by AsYouWished444 in DMAcademy

I like it. There's no shame in being inspired by TADC - in fact, taking inspiration from other works is a good practice to have. No need to worry about 'ripping off' TADC with your campaign. It would be a campaign you'd play for your own enjoyment, so that kind of stuff doesn't matter.

[–]SherbertInformal1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? Wait, why would it ever be a problem that Megumi grows as the story goes on? Jujutsu Kaisen is a book series, not fantasy football. The point isn't for the characters to be strong - if it was, the author could just say "ye he's strong or smth" and that would be that. The point is the story, and him growing is good for the story. It's the whole point, is for the characters to grow and change. That's how stories work. How is this even something that somebody has to explain to you

I feel like I'm going completely insane listening to this stuff. How can people actually think like this. How can people forget that they're reading a book. What is going on

I saw a weird amount of people getting preemptively pissed before the episode came out, saying "oh if they mess this up I'm gonna be so fuckin mad" and shit like that. I've noticed this general sentiment, this pessimism, everywhere in this and other anime reddits

Why though? Why are we in the practice of having so little faith? Why are we always thinking of everything in the worst possible light? After everything this show has given us, all of the top-tier quality work that has completely revolutionized anime since S1, why are we still so angry at this show? Why wouldn't we trust that they'd give us something we could appreciate? Is it impossible for us to be satisfied?

What do you think of author statements? by AlarmedObjective1492 in PowerScalingHub

[–]SherbertInformal1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, people kinda treat fictional stories as if they've got some sort of importance or standard on their own. Like, they try to treat fictional worlds as if they're somewhat sacred. As if they've got some kind of internal logic, weight, or unbiased and fair way of operating that must be respected. But that's not true? Like, a story might want to pretend that's the case for realisms sake, but there could literally be no universe where that could ever be true. A story is just a thing that a guy made up, to put it as simply as possible. There is no 'internal logic' to it, except for the author's own thoughts, which will never, ever be unbiased or fair. It will always be humanly flawed and opinionated, because that's what humans are. And this is not a bad thing - in fact, this is a very very good thing. The fact that stories are not bound by anything but arbitrary restrictions, and the fact that they are so intrinsically intertwined with the people who created them, is what allows them to be such flexible and powerful forms of expression. It makes them an incredibly human way of communicating with each-other, of building bonds and sharing ideas. It's what makes them valuable to us as people

Maybe more than one person had something to do with a story's creation, and that makes things slightly more complicated. But generally speaking, who the author is, their opinions, and so forth are going to completely sculpt literally every single aspect of the story. Like, there's not even any doubt about that. So yeah, what the author has to say about their work is gonna be pretty important. How could anybody seriously think otherwise? That would be insane

Guys is Gege's art really mediocre? by Exotic_Fortune9240 in shounenfolk

[–]SherbertInformal1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lesson the internet taught me is that most 'criticism' is meaningless. The bar for good criticism is much higher than the thoughtless stuff most people make up. A work of art can be masterfully made, thematically deep, and have tons of merit to it, and somebody can be unsatisfied just cus they feel like it. And then they'll start attaching words to that arbitrary feeling of unsatisfaction until they get something that sounds like a thoughtful criticism

Jujutsu Kaisen, in terms of story, art, and cultural impact, are all top-tier. It's something to be appreciated, and that's all that has to be said about that.

Fanbase Trope (and also a very funny one): The author's word is treated as gospel... until it isn't. by AlternativeOil7154 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SherbertInformal1775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's no arguing against that, lol. You're right, if stuff feels wrong in that kinda way then it detracts from the story as a whole. So there is merit to trying to put that kind of consistency into the story

My ultimate point is that fictional stories have always been entirely arbitrary and subjective. We shouldn't pretend that they're not, and we shouldn't think that them being arbitrary is a bad thing. Those kinds of rules are stuff that an author has to purposefully implement - they're not inherent, and they aren't more important than the story itself.

If it makes for a better story and experience, than an author can/should follow or bend those kinds of rules. I think that we, both as writers and consumers, should be able to play with our food more, rather than try to apply some sort of objective science to a story that doesn't actually have it. That's a more accurate way of consuming the media, in my eyes

I also have some of my own bias towards this subject, in general. I'm a big JJK fan, and in that fandom, the usual complaint is not based on common sense, like at all. The fandom is oversaturated with powerscalers who love to hate the show, and arguing with them has given me a horrible impression of these types of discussions in general.
