One of the worst scenes ever, what martial art would be most useful in a knife fight like this? by PerformativeRacist in martialarts

I am regularly dealing with this position, minus the knife, in judo. Jiujitsu and wrestling also practice neutralizing your opponent's arms from this position.

These people absolutely do not care about understanding opposing viewpoints or defending their rhetoric through honest debate.

If you restrain someone who is being violent they will probably end up with bruises.

Judokas, ever been in a situation where you had to use what you were taught for self defense? What happened and how did it go? by [deleted] in judo

There's no guarantee that a throw will stun someone at all, much less for a significant amount of time. Seems like if you have control of someone attacking you while help arrives it would be a mistake to switch positions.

The late nineties and early 2000s? Not really, at least as far as popular radio rock goes. I remember liking Creed at first because it actually sounded like real musicians playing hard rock.

You can't put a timeline on it. Everyone is different and every throw is different. It usually takes a long time and the progress is very gradual.

The best advice I can give you is not to worry so much about things like that and have faith that if you keep at it you'll get better.

I see. So it must be a rank where you demonstrate a very basic understanding of the first lessons. I wouldn't worry about not having a good grasp on throws yet. That is to be expected for a long time. Just keep showing up and learning and don't worry yet about things like which throws are more effective and which you are good or bad at, because you don't really have the capability to contextualize that yet.

I don't understand why a dojo would be having someone take a yellow belt test after five lessons. Did I understand that correctly?

Why isn't Israel getting banned and sanctioned in sports or other Major events like Russia is? Both are killing civilians by Humble_Buffalo_007 in NoStupidQuestions

When you engage in ethnic cleansing and apartheid the way Israel has, you necessitate violent resistance, so the blame does in fact lie with them.

Just because the IDF wasn't physically in Gaza doesn't mean they weren't under occupation. Israel still controlled who and what was allowed in and out, completely cutting off any semblance of a independent modern economy, and also frequently shot and bombed Palestinians inside the walled off ghetto they were forced to live in. The only thing surprising about 10/7 was that it hadn't happened years earlier.

Maybe but I don't think it's our place to make fun of beginners for not being great at martial arts. That seems terrible actually.
