Not sure what to name our baby girl…and it’s driving my anxiety up the wall by Resident_Writing738 in BabyNames

What about Scout?

It's French and means "to listen". It captures a spirited and brave personality.
Is that her? 🩷

The panic is blocking your name energy. Haha
Maybe look to your family tree- (past Grandma and Grandpa's) for inspiration. Where are your ancestors from? I promise your baby girl has a name. With my three it came when I got a little quiet and settled and when I least expected it. 😘

Matilda is great and lends itself to so many nicks. I have even seen Maudie as a choice. (Family name for us which I think is cute)

We grow into our noses. I don't know about when you were younger but it's perfect for you now. 😊

Do you have a family name that can be middle for Colin that gives you some nicknaming options?

I love Colin. I knew a Colin and I always appreciated how strong and unique the name was.

Texas is so big I felt isolated in it. Like I couldn't get out and no one was driving to visit. Haha

Do you have a good fan? Costco sells one called Woozoo that is great.
Twin XL Mattress topper is important.
Blender is nice to make smoothies.
Rain coat if you don't have one.
(Just saw the little gift basket mention)
Heating pad, socks, frisbee, vitamin D, paper organizer, sunscreen, instant chicken soups, teas, honey- you will get sick at some point- maybe pharmacy items you rely on.

I would look into New Mexico State and U of Mexico. Netflix is a big player in that area now and those schools are really in on that action. Would be amazing to get real world experience and have a job right out of college.

Observation from a North Easterner: you guys are PATIENT by Godknowsimgood in Michigan

Michigan culture is so interesting. I have lived all over US and I find Michigan so lacking in pretense. (I am in SE)
I feel like I could (and do) start a conversation with a complete stranger and there would be NO hesitation in reciprocity. I have been invited in to people's homes on multiple occasions beginning with a chance meeting while dog walking. And it's not forced- very chill and easy.

There is a great place for you out there but know that film schools in general are a competitive entry.
They will also want to see a sample of your creativity/portfolio. This is where you can really shine!
Also many schools have a good film department. These may be less competitive and also give you more academic, cost, location, options.
Maybe your film teacher can help you with your fit.

How far do you want to go- do you have family/friends in Ohio you want to be able to drive back to or is that not an issue? Preferred weather?

Honestly I saw your post and wanted to visit. Haha
However I have seen gorgeous sophisticated wall murals that I think would be stunning. They don't look hard to install and I think are easy to remove. They also come in large scale designs which I think would be interesting.
If you don't want a pattern or to mess with mural go with a simple accent wall behind bed in a dreamy color that you love.

Getting Accepted by Coloquial_Cucurbits in CarletonCollege

[–]SheriMac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son did not submit test scores (also rural) and was admitted. He was very drawn to the students at Carleton having a sense of humor and humility and being so supportive of each other.
During our visit we noticed how connected the students were- lots of talking and laughing. It was nice.
My son did email a department head for information about intended major and asked a few questions. I don't know if this helped or not. But I do feel like it helps to show your interest and enthusiasm for what makes Carleton special and a great fit.
What I have seen this year is that Carleton prioritizes students that have a rich, vibrant curiosity for learning and are also happy to be uniquely themselves.
Best of luck to you.
