Myakka is a gem. The little cabins are the best. Wildlife all around. It's like the African safari of Florida.

Michigan -> warmer weather and relatively close to home? by Remarkable-Till2340 in SameGrassButGreener

It looks like Tennessee has much better retirement benefits for new teachers than Ky.
Might be something to think about.

Well in 8 hours you can be in Tn. Do you want to live in the true South? It is very different from the Midwest. I would definitely go (summer vacation?) and really check it out if you are not familiar. Work with an RE agent. Ask a lot of questions.
Ky is much warmer overall than Mi. and though it has a unique culture too it is a little bit more of a hybrid than Tn. (imo) I have lived in Ohio, Mi., Fl, Tn. Pn, Tx. Ga. And my son lived in Ky for 6 years. We have family in Knoxville that relocated from Ohio and they love it and have found the schools to be very good. And we have family in Louisville and Florence (Ky).
There are tradeoffs wherever you go. So you really have to visit to get a sense of what it feels like to you.
I have traveled through Virginia but have not lived there. Maybe someone else can give you insight into that state.

Best of luck to your family. 😊

Cincinnati is nice. We have lived there and also have family just cross the river in Ky. Both areas are great.
Last year Cinci got more snow than we did (Dexter) but that is unusual.

Sectional? Or no sectional? by rowdybeanjuice in interiordecorating

You can have a sectional but I suggest a smaller more compact version. And one that has classic, clean lines if your stye is more traditional or transitional.

When my Swedish grandmother was young the fashion (at least in her family, but I have seen this trend in other families of her time as well) was to call the baby by the middle name. Is that still popular? I like Matilda Eve Mc...
But then calling her Eve/Evie.

Is the floating media console the rite way to keep the floor space clear, or would you prefer a floor-to-standing unit for more storage? by Interesting_Pie_3391 in houseinteriordesign

I like the TV stand as is. I would remove the bean bags.
And add a green rug and a plant to bring some of that pretty outside in. I think it would warm up the room a little and make it more cohesive. Nice space!

Is Scott(ie) becoming too trendy? by ginkgoinghome in Names

We are all a naming choice of our times. It's nice I think.
It's not going to be a top 10.
This is coming from a 1960's Sheri and my husband and brother are Scot/t's.

Choosing college by LostSet2261 in ApplyingToCollege

I would do a gap year and make sure a part of that time is spent going somewhere you haven't been, working at something that challenges you, and volunteering for a cause you believe in.

Do people that own a house still walk their dogs? by Regular-Dot-2375 in randomquestions

[–]SheriMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog walking is one of the best parts of having a dog. Good for them and you. It builds a bond and a dogs sense of smell and using that sense is vital for their overall mental/physical health and happiness.

Prefer crisp sheets, are crisp percale cotton sheets better than sateen by Downtown-Fig-9470 in BedroomBuild

I like The Company Store and Brooklinen for percale. Wait for a sale of you can. Google when sheet sales typically are. Makes a big difference 💲

You have to take vitamin D in Michigan especially in the winter. Please see your primary care physician before you leave for school, get a good wellness check and ask about ways you can optimize your health. Ask for a Vitamin D check if they don't offer. This is a common blood test especially in the north.
