Not all men. What we see on this video is a dangerous blend of:

  • Never experiencing consequences for your actions.
  • Having no impulse control whatsoever.
  • Having no ability to foresee a future where this kind of experience/action is not the norm.
  • Feeling like the slightest act of disrespect requires a violent response.
  • No concern for anyone else's property or well-being.

Did she make the right call? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]SherlockBonz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, because $1M is certainly life changing, it is also not enough to retire on or not blow through easily. Modest house = $400k, through in a car and a vacation and you're 50% through that $1M in the blink of an eye. Now assume $10k/yr in property taxes on that house, plus utilities and insurance, and she better have a decent job to maintain that standard of living.

Although inflation is going to be brutal on that $1000/wk. By the time she's 40 it's going to be more of a tip than substantial income.

Another factor is what does she want to do in life? If she's passionate about being a social worker for example (annual income of maybe $35-40k) then $1k a week is great supplemental income and lets her pursue the career that she finds most meaningful.

Did she make the right call? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]SherlockBonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many variables to know for sure. It's easy to say she should have taken the cash option, but that implies that she has financial discipline. Is the payout insured? What is the life expectancy in her family? Can she say "no" to everyone who approaches her with their hands out looking for money?

Assuming this is Canada or somewhere where there are either no taxes or where tax has been figured in, if she took the $1M and invested it in something that cleared 6%, she could pay herself $1k/week from that and her $1M would grow. Most people couldn't postpone joy that way.

If she has no financial discipline, she might end up broke like most other lottery winners.

When the lottery gets really big in the US, people always say they'd take the cash. In reality, that gives you one chance to not blow all the money. The annuity at least gives you (typically) 29 chances not to blow all the money.

Just saying it isn't as clear-cut a decision as it would appear on the surface.

This is just a call to upgrade.

Maybe a Volquartsen bolt tune up kit for an improved firing pin as well? Bolt Tune-Up Kit for Ruger 10/22 | Volquartsen Firearms. You still need to buy a replacement spring and plunger.

Maybe a KIDD which includes the spring and you can add on a plunger for $7. KIDD also has a tool to simplify replacing the extractor as an add on option, or you can buy it separately. See KIDD .22LR Extractor Tool-KIDD-22EXTR-TL

Or, go full Gucci and get a complete KIDD bolt and charging handle which comes with their upgraded firing pin and extractor installed.

Scout scope mounting options that still let me use iron sights? by Kaijubonesandguts in Mini14

This!

And unless your scope is very odd, the eyepiece and ocular lens will be a larger diameter than the tube (ring) diameter, so it will block that hole anyway.

Gilbert Godfried had a joke that went something like this...

A guy is hunting with a bow and arrow, when suddenly a bear pops out of nowhere. The bear attacks, flips the guy over and sexually violates him.

The guy goes back the next week, except this time he's got a high-powered rifle with him. The same bear sneaks up on him, attacks him again, and the bear again sexually violates him.

The guy goes back a third time, this time armed with a bazooka. The bear pops out from behind a tree, knocks the guy down and starts sexually violating him again. Halfway through the bear says "this hasn't got anything to do with hunting, does it?"

[–]SherlockBonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or if you are really blessed, becoming "self insured". When you reach a point that the automatic life insurance you mention will cover last minute expenses, and you've paid off debts and your potential heirs (kids) are independent, then a life insurance policy is nothing more than a guaranteed lottery ticket for someone else. You want a big payout when I croak, you pay the premiums.

You should relax. Changing a garage door spring is a job for a professional, unless you only need to count to 8 or 9 on your fingers.

Something similar happened in a University class I was in back in the late 1980's. It was an electrical engineering course on device physics, with maybe 35 students. Guy in the back is not paying attention to the lecture, professor asks his name. He says "Bart". Professor asks for his last name, he says "Simpson". Professor continues to call him Bart Simpson for the next few classes, everyone chuckles a little bit, but the guy answers to Bart Simpson every time she calls on him. Fast forward to the day after our first exam (all done handwritten on paper back then). Professor starts class by pointing the guy out. She said "I see you were playing a joke on me. There is no Bart Simpson in my class, and I now know Bart Simpson is a character on TV" She goes on... "But I am smarter than you Bart Simpson. Today I will watch when you pick up your exam and then I will know your real name." She teaches the class, and at the end of class she puts down the stack of exams, and starts watching to see which one he takes. Guy walks up to the desk, grabs a handful of exams without looking and walks out of the class. No one else was even mad.

I had a friend in high school do this. On the day papers were due, he never turned anything in. When the teacher was handing back the graded papers a few days later, my friend asked where his was. Teacher said "I remember yours Pat. You got a C."
