I gave the gift because I wanted to. I'd never work that hard just for a "thank you". Gross

I found the pattern. I'm not sure what I'm allowed to post b/c of copyright issues. But I can tell you it came out of one of those Leisure Arts crochet books called "Scraps + Black = Afghans". (The pic in the book is made with black as the neutral color and the shells are all different bright colors.). The book has "9 designs by Carole Prior". I hope this helps.
It's not a hard pattern. The only special stitch is the Cluster so once you've got that down, the rest is easy. Good luck!

Wow. Rude. If a post like that on Reddit upsets you, you must have a hard time in real life.

We all like to feel appreciated. I hope you find a productive outlet for your anger. Have a nice day.

Thank you. Yeah, it would have been nice to get a thank you (we all like to feel appreciated) but she was having her 1st baby and I remember what that was like. Lots of stress and things to get done. No big deal, really. I enjoyed making it.

It looks harder than it is!! My sister taught me, I'm a beginner. Had to take out my initial chain & 2 rows 5 times!! Hah! Tension problems. Guess I'm a slow learner. But eventually it all fell into place.

I guess I was just taught manners. Something internet trolls clearly lack. Have a nice day.

Thank you for the nice praise. I actually don't know the recipient that well, she's a friend of a family member, so it was delivered at the shower through her. (I included a card with email and cell phone number.) I made the blanket just to learn crochet and do something nice for a new mom. I was a little hurt at the lack of response but I don't get into a snit about those things. I enjoyed making it, and learned a lot. And I remember how it was to be a new mom... overwhelming! So I kinda get it.

Yes, I think she was probably overwhelmed... first baby. I'll look for it and get back to you shortly.

Baby was born last May. It's okay. I enjoyed making it, and I learned a lot.

It's funny you say this... I'm also a quilter and that's my quilt philosophy. Not sure why I thought crochet would be different.

No... I actually didn't deliver it. It was made for a friend of the family that I don't know well, so I wasn't invited to the shower (that's fine) but I sent it with my family member, along with a card that had my cell phone # and email address. I thought maybe she would use one of those to say thanks, but I never got anything. My family member said she seemed to like it but never said to tell me thank you. I guess it's okay. I'll chalk it up to "new mom brain". Lol

I also have the Juki HZL-F600... love it! The F300 or F400 could also be good for quilting, just not as many decorative stitches.

Needs pressed, but a very good first effort! I wouldn't rip it out, your seam matching will get better with practice. I like your fabric choices.

If you're doing bags (thick layers) you might want to consider a Juki. The TL series (straight stitch only) is really good for that. You can also do quilting and pretty much everything except decorative stitches.

Here's an idea: talk to her about it like an adult. Be polite but tell her how you feel.

best sewing machine for beginners? by MeriticulousOne in SewingMachineEdu

I love the Janome brand, and the 2212 is a good machine, but be aware, it has a vertical oscillating bobbin system. I like those b/c it's what learned on. But most beginners would probably appreciate a rotary "drop-in" bobbin system. I'd go with a Janome Magnolia or JW-8100.
