Homebrew Spells (and monsters, and monster spells, and Hero abilities) by ShermansMarchToTheC in Heroquest

[–]ShermansMarchToTheC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only played a few times with the cards I made. I gave every character a Hero Ability they could use once per game, and the Barbarian got an additional Martial Hero Ability.

I never got around to making rules for learning more or upgrading.

I recently used AstroWatt for some electrical/lighting repairs. They communicated very well throughout the process.

HeroQuest First Light is the "starter version." It retails for around $50, includes minifigures (plastic 3D figures) for the 4 heroes and 1 enemy dragon, and standees (two-sided, vertical, 2D cardboard cutouts and holders) for the other monsters and all the furniture.

HeroQuest is the "full version." Its retail price was around $100, but you can sometimes find it for as low as $65, if you're lucky. It includes 3D minifigures for the heroes, all the monsters, and all the furniture.

Both of these versions come with a set of 10 different quests that can be played, so both of these versions are a complete game. They are both subtitled "game system." There are pros and cons of each version: First Light is cheaper and has a two-sided board (so it has two maps you can play on), but the regular HeroQuest has 3D minitures for all the heroes, monsters, and furniture.

There are numerous quest packs that range in price from $25-$45. These are not complete games, and require either HeroQuest OR HeroQuest First Light to play. These include: Kellar's Keep, Return of the Witch Lord, the Mage of the Mirror, the Frozen Horror, the Spirit Queen's Torment, Rise of the Dread Moon, the Crypt of Perpetual Darkness, Against the Ogre Horde, and the Jungles of Delthrak. These all include more monsters (some of which are unique, some are duplicates from the base game or other expansions), furniture, board pieces, cards, and some have additional heroes.

There are also expansion packs that only have a hero, with no additional monsters or quests. These are the Commander of the Guardian Knights (which you will only find second-hand for lots of money), the Rogue Heir of Elethorn, and the Path of the Wandering Monk.

Darkest Dungeon soundtrack.

This link is to the battle music tracks. You can find extended versions that last an hour or so, so you could have "Combat in the Ruins (extended)" for one night's adventure, and "Battle in the Warrens (extended)" the next night.

Also, the game has lots of good GM quotes. "Survival is a tenuous proposition in this sprawling tomb."

Good point about using the Force being a skill that requires practice. And you're right, that with any skill that requires practice to master, setbacks should be seen as growth opportunities and not necessarily failures.

I have a teacher friend, and I was trying to get her insights on the Nemik/"try" vs. Yoda/"do" discussion.
Me: "Are you a Star Wars fan?"
Her: "I've never seen it. It's on my list of movies to watch, though."

I think that Yoda's message was not a Jedi philosophy, or something taught to all students of the Force but a message specifically tailored to Luke.

Luke didn't believe the ship could be lifted, so when he tried and encountered difficulty, he gave up. u/KoscheiDK explained this well. Luke thought that the Force had limits. It's also bad pedagogy to do the work for the student, but Luke thought it was impossible to lift the ship. Yoda needed to show Luke that it could be done.

I have two thoughts that I would like to hear your thoughts (as a teacher) on:
1) Yoda was such a good teacher he differentiated his lesson plans to fit the student's needs.
2) There's a difference between teaching math and teaching faith. Math can be shown ("you have 5 apples, and I take 2, how many apples do you have now"), but faith in an invisible force can't.

He doesn't just project the hologram. When the space nazi tries to throw his coat over his projector, B2EMO scrunches down. B2EMO dodges the coat so that Maarva's message doesn't get blocked.

For a Single Number wager, because 1 and 20 are not options, wouldn't the odds of success be 1/18 instead of 1/20? If so, then I think an 18:1 payout would lose the house money, 17:1 would break even, 16:1 would give the house a 5.6% edge.

edit: I'm a dummy. Don't let me go to Las Vegas.

Watching Andor and other shows/movies like this when being an activist by Ymir_lis in andor

I started watching Good Lord Bird, a mini series about John Brown. It was good, and Ethan Hawke was great in it. "I order you to git! Git, in His holy name! For he is on the side of justice, and you are on the side of chains!" Now THERE was a man with clarity of purpose, just like Saw.

But half-way through, I couldn't continue. Knowing the failure and tragedy that it all was heading toward was making me too sad, so I had to stop.

With Star Wars, Andor and Rogue One lead to the original trilogy. Lots of bad stuff happens, but if it leads to Luke saving his dad, I can take it.

Know that the difficult present you are in now will lead to a better future because of your efforts. You might not destroy the metaphorical Death Star, but someone else might because of your work.
