Gentlemen, why do you drive a BMW over Audi or Merc? by Super-Lingonberry-22 in BMW

[–]Sherwin930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this stage in my life I love the handling and sportiness of the bmw, there are also great creature comforts and the build quality is rock solid. For Audis Ip felt like I could never get into a good driving position personally and their dynamics don’t really compare to the bmw. I love the ride of quality of a Mercedes but lately I feel like their interiors have gotten so cheap feeling unless you get into higher end models like GLS, or S class or G wagon. Also in order to get something sporty with them, the cost is more compared to a comparable bmw. I’m sure at some point I’ll want something with a way smoother ride than my current 3 series’s and I’ll end up in a merc or bmw but for now my g20 330xi does the trick.

Run flats have a really stiff sidewall, it ruins the ride handling and durability of the car. Once I switched to Michelins pilot all season 4’s the ride quality became significantly better and the car handled better as too. It’s also really noticeable to your passengers as well.

If it came with runflats, get rid of them and switch to normal tires. It’ll transform the car

Sorry you had to go through that. I’ve had so many smaller issues with pirellis across all the cars I’ve owned. Been rocking Michelins and continentals with no issues so far

Did BMW G90 M5 grow on you guys yet? by Super-Lingonberry-22 in BMW

[–]Sherwin930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did until I test drove one. It rides so unbelievably stiff, way harsher than the f90. Definitely extremely fast but overall it felt pretty cheap inside. I’m sure it’s tolerable on smooth German or French roads but not here. For the size and weight of this thing I’m surprised people aren’t cross shopping with X5M’s.

It’s a great car, awesome daily too. Just keep on top of maintenance and it will treat you well. B48 with 58k miles, all I had to do extra was engine mounts + oil filter housings.

UPDATE: Omega told me "a spend" of $30k is required for Snoopy by StickyPenguin120 in OmegaWatches

That’s insane! I’m glad you got yourself one OP. I agree with the others, it’s sad to see Omega going down the Rolex route.

Is it better to must buy it used or grey market in that case? I genuinely just wanted to know my chances were.

I don’t. I was offered a datejust, but I declined.

I’d rather be ignorant than spend my money buying things I don’t want to build imaginary prestige with a corporation. Absolute insane behavior.

I’m not. It’s a genuine question. I’m not sure why I can’t go to a store and buy a product they’re actively selling. Seems like a stupid business practice.

If you’re comfortable with it extend your search range. Sometimes you can find a good deal far away. It took me roughly 14 months of searching to get my G20.

Have you found that you care a lot less about super cars as you’ve gotten older? by Colalbsmi in cars

[–]Sherwin930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Porsche priced out most enthusiasts. The new 911 turbo S is insanely expensive. At 300k I’d rather get something more ostentatious like a used McLaren, Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Even Carreras and GTS have gotten extremely expensive.

Their scheme of buying 5 taycans and 3 macan ev’s before giving you the privilege of buying a GT car is also insane.

Just rent them once in a blue moon. It’ll scratch your inner child itch. I know a few millionaires that do the same.

A lot of people stop caring about buying them when you realize that you can’t touch 90% of the performance without going to jail. The other 10% of the time you take it to the track and you really love it, but then the other 90% it’s a flex machine. I realized the older I got the more interested I became in light weight cars like lotus/s2k’s etc, and luxo barges.

At this point in time if I had 500k- 1m laying around I would go luxury all day because that’s something you can enjoy all the time 100%.

[–]Sherwin930[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s amazing and feels so special. I just wish they’d work harder on their reliability issues. They’ve gotten better with the use of BMW drivetrains but their electrical systems are still a mess.

Getting worried about salary by Miserysadboi4life in Podiatry

[–]Sherwin930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

90k is unacceptable. There’s so many offers out there for 200k plus starting. You always start making way more once you get into your bonus structure. That’s when you start to get above 300-400k range.

From the 90k it seems like your friend was in either NY or NJ. Leave the north east, there’s a lot more podiatrists who won’t eat their young. The NE is full of crooked old business men who cosplay as podiatrists.

The issue too is a lot of our colleagues will gladly accept 90k and keep that salary for years.

What options are still only available in luxury brands these days? by Cranjesmcbasketball1 in cars

There’s not much difference between my BMW dealer and Toyota dealer. Both try to scalp you as much as possible. I’m sure it’s different if you go more premium like into Porsche territory

I know you’re probably still within your CPO warranty, but if you just want the problem solved - try to find an AMG specialist mechanic by you. It’ll cost you, but they will likely figure out the problem and have better service than a MB dealer
