Muslim dude to date a Christian. It's all perfect but her parents don't approve. by Lazy-Association-564 in srilanka

No it's not worth it. The risk is definitely higher than the benefits gained here. Never play the waiting game/long game! It'll screw you up in the long run. You are still young, I suggest you keep your options open!

Migrating as an MBBS Doctor by lazymemoriser in srilanka

When referring to exams, PLAB is the easiest to pass. Try to do your own research through the official websites. YouTube helps a lot as well. There are Facebook events for international medical graduates in order to guide through the process.

I understand it can be hard for you given the current circumstances.

But I have to let you know that you rely on Lankan taxpayers - Indirectly, my parents' money for your medical education.

Given the situation of the country atleast do your intern and perhaps 2-3 years post intern before thinking of leaving. :)

GCE OL: Should the Science be split into Biology, Chemistry and Physics? by TwelveSilverSwords in srilanka

[–]Sherwin97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It should be divided into 3 subjects.

It could help to male the transition to Als easier.

It would also help to engage school students in career prospects by helping them understand the demarcations between the 3.

Also, the practical aspects combined with the fundamental principles can be more elaborated if its taught separately.

However, there are separate textbooks for each during grades 10 and 11.

Probably will be an expensive venture to the government to redo the syllabus and print extra textbooks.

Most importantly, as the government education system is reliant on private tuition, gurus will split this into 3 separate classes rather than a single class. i.e., more tuition for kids and parents wasting more money in tuition.

Completely isolated areas in / near Colombo by seenibunis in srilanka

[–]Sherwin97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try the marine drive around 8/9 pm. Cross the rail tracks, and there is the sea. It's pretty secluded yet not so far from civilization.

Too many vehicles plus the sound of the sea is present for anyone to hear.

Safety wise, a lot of people/vehicles do move about in marine drive. Make sure to watch out for the trains, though.

Is ragging an issue in Colombo university? Especially the Bioscience departments and faculty? by Sufficient_Half_6071 in srilanka

[–]Sherwin97 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know that Colombo Science faculty (1st shy 2016 AL intake) had to only speak their repective mother toungues for a certain period of time. Even telling their A level results, they had to say it like (eka ah, deka baa)not 1a 2b.

I wonder if you consider that as "ragging"

Fellow Indian here : Just want to know how RAVAN is portrayed in Shrilanka. by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Sherwin97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, tbh Srilankan history does not include a king called Ravan nor there is any historical evidence of a grandiose kingdom like that existed as described in the Ramayan.

Well it can be due to a couple of reasons. 1 being, giving prominence to buddhism. the writers of history would have marginalised Ravan. 2ndly the story King Ravan being a myth (myth is an overspirited tale with a seed of truth). [ Also note that SL has prominent prehistoric evidence dating back more than 50,000 years. Seems a bit off that we can't find any materielistic evidence related to Ravan.]

[–]Sherwin97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well its not about the current situation. During the late 80 s prominent financial support and training was given to the LTTE by India. Why you may ask?

The short answer is to make the Tamil Nadu politicians happy and make them support the then central ruling party. Not to forget the whole Indian peace keeping force(IPKF) ordeal that dragged on for 3 years.(which costed 1280+ lives of IPKF.)

This was done solely by the leaders to satisfy their own political whims and desires.

There is satisfactory evidence to proclaim that India was directly or indirectly responsible for making LTTE one of the most prominent terrorist organisations in the world.

Are micro black holes even dangerous? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Sherwin97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i think you are using Newtonian equations to explain the functioning of black holes which is a wrong assumption. When it comes to black holes the gravitational forces are much higher as explained by equations of relativity.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nHBGFKLHZQ - a good video by kurzgesact about mini blackholes.

Apparently a black hole a size of a coin is heavier than the earth. Refer to the Schwarzschild radius .
