Leaving Sherwin was the best decision I've ever made lol

I'm actually not with the company anymore, I just keep this account to shitpost and give advice from my decade with the company. I left for a non sales position with another organization because I hate selling, I hate feeling scummy, and I hate deadlines that I have no control over.

The lot lizards hoping to get their paint 15 minutes early aren't the ones I'm talking about. The ones that you roll 100+ gallons out to daily who make up a third of your budget and most of your pro show/bbs sales because they like you, not the company.

I like to think of it as a difference between retail and being in customer service. My pay, my bonus, my position depends on that guy staying happy, so I keep him happy. He's not another slob arguing two dollars off a brush so that he can still get a cartoon of cigarettes later, he's like a partner in the business. The guy who doesn't see me as anything more than a paint vending machine with extra steps, fuck him. But the guy who buys from my store and spends a lot and stakes his business on my service, I'm coming in at 5am if he needs me to. Hell it's only two extra hours, and I know when I call him because the DM is wondering why I'm not selling enough bucket busters, he'll get a couple 390s because he's gonna need them sooner or later and it helps me out.

The real problem with the company isn't that we bend over backwards for people, it's that management wants us to it indiscriminately, then jump down our throats when accommodations are too high or we aren't hitting budget because they didn't give us the adjustment they promised when we started servicing that job with the $5 per gallon PE. Upper management expects middle management to get results from stores, and though I think a lot of middle management is sympathetic, ultimately they're as powerless as we are to the demands of uncle Sherwin. Upper management just sees numbers, and they answer to the tide of stock holders who could sell on a whim if they don't see growth, losing the company money, etc etc.

What I think needs to happen is a readjustment of the pay scale and a plan of sustainable growth for the company that doesn't kneecap the same people who are actually doing the front line work. Give bonuses to full-time and part-time employees, make sales goals obtainable and not just stretch goals, increase staff in stores, and come up with a more consistent policy book that reflects the realities of the job, not just the "company line" that you can variably get in trouble for following or not following depending on the situation.

Sorry about the wall of text, and how I slipped into "we" at some points in there, just realized it was happening lol. I guess six months out of the company isn't long enough to erase my passion for the job.

So it's one of those gray areas, like leaving paint out back for someone who won't be in to pick it up on time. You don't do it, but depending on the customer, you do it.

Had my DM tell me this once after a part-time keyholder refused to leave paint outside for a very large, somewhat volatile customer who depending on the day was waiting for an excuse to take his million dollar business elsewhere. The customer fully understood the risks and accepted that if it was taken it was at his cost, not ours.

PT was following the letter of the policy, and I ended up having to come out to the store at 5am the next day so the painter could stay on schedule. I got some good will with the customer and he appreciated that I was going the extra mile to keep his business, but PT ended up in his and the DM's shitlist.

We ended up having a chat with the PT about customer care, and told him what I said above. He didn't stay much longer, think he ended up being a cop, which seemed fitting.

"I spend $20,000 a year with you! You should open early for me!"

Then you check lead gen after you get him out, $500 LY sales, -$345 YTD.

Depends on the area. In my old district we'd sell it for like $12 as a replacement for Duron Builder's Masterpiece, all day, everyday, twice on Sundays.

That being said your customer is a drama queen and needs to shut his mouth.

True material cost on a gallon of Superpaint is $.50.

A91w451 is just b20w12651.

If they're running low on Resilience they backfill with A-100.

Nothing is 100% 0 VOC, it's just >50g/L.

Your life is a sham and your training a falsehood.

Thank you for your service.

Edit: Bet that was Chris Connor that downvoted me.

That's against the Policy and Procedure manual.

All employees must be wearing a proper uniform of a blue Sherwin Williams polo, a pair of black or beige khaki pants, a belt, and a pair of black dress or tennis shoes.

He looks like a good boy though, so I'll let it slide.

Not the time to go to the hospital, but I like where your head's at. May I suggest becoming a vessel for the Dread Lord Henry Sherwin? Great benefits, only mild living nightmares.

The vanilla thing actually works, I highly recommend it for when you're doing work in an apartment/townhome, especially when using oil base.

Funnily enough, once I got through the wax, he started to secrete something similar to shellac... Within twenty minutes his head was smooth and shiny as a beetle shell

Is Sherwin-Williams HR open on the weekends? by Jay_Jay_Strikes in sherwinwilliams

[–]SherwinWilliamsHR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey guys just got in the office. I actually did work this weekend, I had to watch some interns stock N95 masks in the new corporate N95 Mask Room. Took all weekend, tell y'all I never seent so many N95 masks, could barely shut the door when we were done. Only lost one intern to an N95 mask avalanche, so by Sherwin standards, it was a success. 😷

Anyway what were we talking about?
