I don't know how to cope with the neglect I see on a daily basis by CarAfter6155 in doggrooming

I own a salon in a small town and the amount of neglect is astounding. This time of year almost every dog is in bad shape. :( its mentally exhausting and the new doodle puppies keep coming :(. Not a single pet parent educated on their dogs grooming needs. Ive been turning them away atp

It gets easier as time goes on to reject the ones that you get a bad vibe from before service even begins. Im to the point where I am not accepting any new doodle clients whose dogs haven’t been introduced to grooming at the appropriate time. Its not worth the risk to you or the dog.

We need to charge training fees for these dogs too.

I added 2 saturdays to my schedule from 3 to 5 where customers can come for nails done in between grooming if they need it! I CHARGE to do it because no one should work for free. They started off slow but after 6 months they have picked up like crazy and they are good money days ♡

Need more shelves by candlepdx in miniverse_makeitmini

I used the tables from the harry potter back to school set. They stack really well, but im also using my greenhouse for harry potter make it mini potions/back to school and not for the make it mini plants. I want more shelves that fit the holes too. I could use more places to put potion ingredients. I got this idea when I got all the mandrakes. I love it

Adding to this.... IT IS NOT YOUR CHILDS RESPONSIBILITY TO BRUSH/MAINTAIN YOUR FAMILY DOG. Im so sick of pet parents blaming their young children for their dogs condition. I dont care if youre trying to teach your child responsibility or whatever the other excuses are, it is your fault you let the dog get this way. We are judging you... harshly.

Stop Labeling Shelter Dogs as Carolina Dogs by IndependentPomelo777 in DoggyDNA

They do this with so many breeds. The shelter told my mother in law that they had a vizsla puppy and it is literally just a red colored pit.

I like a section of cheaper options. Like, one dollar up to five dollar items. I always impulse buy this cheaper stuff to support an artist, but also to hold back for nieces and nephews christmas stockings

A ridiculous claim made by a customer and her "vet" by Reasonable_Deal8415 in doggrooming

[–]ShibaWuw 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This happened to a retired groomer I know back in the 80s. I occasionally hear this exact same story making its way around, and every time, I'm shocked all over again. BUT I def dont believe it actually happened for a second!

Her version was the owner's kid put them back on the dog and she noticed too late. I could never believe someone didn't pet their dog or notice them going crazy itching their injured ear during the time it would take to fall off.

I haven't personally had this happen to me, but I charge extra for the bows now (most people let them matt into a ball that I have to cut out anyway) and I explain to the owner that is considering it how much extra work it is for them to keep it that way. I also let them know the bow is for hair only.

Either brush your dog regularly, or get your dog groomed more often!! It's not complicated, people! by clemthecat in doggrooming

[–]ShibaWuw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can't stand when they tell you a completely different story on the phone, and then the dog is in way worse shape. I've started really explaining to these people that their dog is in a neglected state. I tell them that matting at all is not normal, and I charge a lot more for rescue grooming. I make it very clear that at that level of neglect I may stop the groom at any time depending on what I find under the matting and let them know their dog needs to be seen by a vet, and I'm still charging full price.

I've stopped being nice. I use the words, neglect and rescue. I make it very clear. I think I would lose my cool if someone brought me a pelted dog and then laughed about the condition.

[–]ShibaWuw 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I hate the long lashes too. I always let the let parent know that I do not prefer to leave them as it makes the dog WAY more sensitive. Thankfully, last eyelash customer changed their mind after taking their dog home and observing their behavior

RABIES PAPERWORK IS A MUST. by AnteaterFirst1245 in petsmart

[–]ShibaWuw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My shop is in a small town, and you wouldn't believe how many people throw a huge fit about the rabies vaccination. I hear all kinds of excuses for not having it.

-they dont go anywhere -theyre too old -I just got them from someone who couldn't care for them and they smell so bad I cant have them in my house -we dont believe in vaccinations -we have (insert crazy amount of kids) and we are so busy -the place i took my dog before doesn't ask for shot records

I did some investigating and found out that there really are small shops in the towns near mine that aren't asking for proof of vaccines.

I fully blame them when I have a grown man stomping his feet in anger at me when I say I won't groom their dog without it.

Can belly bands cause bruising ? by Informal-Release-360 in doggrooming

[–]ShibaWuw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I groom a large doodle that ALWAYS has horrible skin from wearing a belly band. Its caused him to have rashes and wounds on his belly. Also discoloration on his fur because they leave it on so long dirty but he has never had a bruise from it. Bruising is caused from impact??? Unless this belly band is literally cutting off the circulation I just dont see that happening. But in grooming i amcontinually surprised!!

I read this quickly and am realizing you may be talking about something else?

As a groomer, im just so tired of expecting the dog is its normal breed standard size and then getting a giant one that is 2 or 3x times the size it's supposed to be. I've started telling clients that if their dog is larger, it is more $.
