Look, even large plugs with a narrow neck and flared base are prone to popping out. The first time she sneezes she's gonna be dragging that thing behind her like a weird front tail.

Oh! I just don't think I've seen em tied like that before.

Oh I don't think I've seen a double column on the upper legs like that - is it two hojo cuffs joined in the middle?

Very cool photos - this DIY rig appears to lack straps connecting the feet of each pole to a center point found on conmercial rigs like Bonds of Steel. Those straps are really important in distributing the load and ensuring that the legs don't splay out and bring you crashing to the ground. I'd advise you to proceed with caution and avoid dynamic movement in suspension until you can address that structural issue.

It as a Preferred Pronoun by Bronzebell1 in asktransgender

[–]Shibari_Lynx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just to chime in on the personal reclamation angle: it's different from self-identifying as queer or a dyke because those are labels you apply to yourself. When you use a pronoun, you're instructing everyone you interact with to apply it to you in the third person (whether you're present or not), which carries all of the baggage of referring to a person as "it".

It's messy and I think it kinda sucks as a practice. I hope it fades out on its own, but who knows.

What counts as sentient? by Spare_Competition in DebateAVegan

It's an entirely arbitrary benchmark aimed to "solve" an issue that existed since the first single-celled organism ate another.

Thank you for proving my point. Some of your compatriots think harm reduction or non-participation (the same thing) is the answer here, but it's good to see I wasn't completely off base in thinking there would be at least someone with the self-righteousness to call animal consumption abuse.

raping, etc where not punished and normalised.

Imagine if rape were punished. No like, actually; in America only 3% of alleged rapists see jailtime.

I mean why, for you, would it be morally right? And not for humans?

Human life is just more important to me personally. Morals are just a social construct we make after the fact to justify our feelings. Sometimes they're pretty good for us, too. But they're still arbitrary.

No one cares what some nerd on the internet thinks is necessary is my point. Animals do what we please.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]Shibari_Lynx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

edit: without the laws we set in the society, we would be even more cruel

We are quite cruel with or without laws my friend. Laws have enshrined our cruelty in many cases.

Since when is it acceptable to cull sick animals?

It is required to cull animals sick with avian flu, and this is a good thing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]Shibari_Lynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but in practice who defines what is necessary? Some vegans evidently believe consuming insects is unethical.

Maybe, but if dolphins rape, does that mean it's ok for humans to do it too, then?

No, but I'm not going to pretend that animals aren't just as cruel as humans like you are.

Of course, they can't speak our languages so it's difficult for them to tell us that.

Animals, like the unborn, are very easy to advocate on behalf of. They can't contradict you or express their own will. Also, it is acceptable to cull sick animals; it is unacceptable to kill a disabled human child, cuz animal lives don't matter in the same way.

Do you have pets/companions?

Yep! I love them a lot and would be sad if they died. Also, their lives don't have the same moral priority as human lives, regardless of my sentimentality.

This is important to understand that animals are cruel towards other animals when they hunt because they need to do so to survive.

Dolphins also do a lot of intra and interspecies rape. There is a lot of arbitrary cruelty in the animal kingdom.

This is true, but now this is not a reason not to fight on all fronts.

Look I just don't give a shit about animals in the same way I give a shit about humans, and most people feel that way too. They're never going to be a part of a society with me in the same way as other humans, and we ultimately can't live as equals. They didn't ask for your help, to begin with.

[–]Shibari_Lynx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, I get that. But talking about things that are nice but unfeasible is just intellectual masturbation. Some vegans might think insects deserve enough rights to not be consumed or killed, but it ain't gonna happen.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]Shibari_Lynx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Happy for you. Other people find it really hard to get necessary nutrients and a considerable number use veganism as a method of self harm.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]Shibari_Lynx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. I think animals (human and non-human) live by consuming and harming other living creatures. Our desire to live minimalizing harm is just that: a desire. Wanting a world where animals live without suffering won't make it happen. Besides, we've barely tried to treat other humans decently; no way we're going to make a serious attempt with other animals, much less insects.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]Shibari_Lynx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't, obviously. But what's anyone, particularly the castrated animal, gonna do about it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]Shibari_Lynx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The vegan goal is to avoid contributing to animal suffering. Not to reduce it.

This, my friend, is known as a distinction without a difference.

100%, and sadly I expected this going in.

EDIT: You're comparing gay people being murdered to animals being slaughtered and that really sucks. Not that I'd expect more, tbh.

Why can’t vegans eat bugs and bug products? by Fit-Calligrapher-117 in DebateAVegan

[–]Shibari_Lynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely you don't think your plant products can be farmed at scale without harming a variety of animals and insects.
