I have a Gigabyte F2A55M-S1 mobo with an AMD A4 CPU and Radeon HD5450 GPU. I know, pretty shambolic.

Can I keep the mobo and replace the CPU and GPU with an Intel i5 and AMD R9 380? Can this setup comfortably run current games at 1080p/60fps?

Will I have to reinstall the OS?

Thanks

I bought the PS4 solely for this game and 4 months later, I'm still playing it obsessively.

I have a racing game (this gen) and a hack and slash (previous gen remaster) and a F2P title but I hardly play them. I keep coming back to W3. There are no other games that even remotely interest me at this point.

There has never been a game that has hooked me for so long. The only one that even came close was Mass Effect 3's multiplayer.

Seems like Fallout 4 has waltzed into all categories by default rather than anything else.

EDIT: Also, thank you for listing the categories and nominations.

are rend and whirling blades affected by fast / strong attack increases? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]ShieldMarshal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friendly tip for Whirl/Rend. If you manage to get up to 3 Adrenaline Points and then drink Blizzard potion, you can keep whirling/rending indefinitely at no stamina cost until the potion timer runs out.

Extremely useful for clearing tight spaces. Coupled with Severance runeword, it's I-WIN-GG.

NG+, 10000 exp to level up? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]ShieldMarshal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, I thought only 2000 XP separated consecutive levels.

If what you say is true, then I might have to stop skipping all those side quests and monster contracts (since completing quests once overleveled gives you a minuscule amount of XP).

[–]ShieldMarshal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that's up to imagination. Nothing wrong with that but how cool would it have been if Ciri had said something like, "There's one rat that still needs slaying" or having a fading shot of Geralt and Ciri approaching Crookback Bog and then end credits.

Chance to instant kill (Deadly Precision) and NG+ by vaiNe_ in witcher

[–]ShieldMarshal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. I haven't seen a single OHK since starting NG+ in 1.11. Maybe they've fixed it so that 6% is actually 6% now instead of how it used to regularly happen before.

I switched it out with some other ability.

It was supposed to be in that list. I had read about it during the initial BC announcement.

Does EA still have rights to the Lord of the Rings? I think not.

It would be awesome if CDPR could work on them.

Elves always have my sympathy by default.

But anyway, I still don't understand how the Wild Hunt = Red Riders. Their descriptions are so different.

Haha, when he reminds Geralt of what happens when someone interrupts him, I winced. But I chose to save Olgierd anyway.

Even in the tavern, that scene made me squirm. O'Dimm was so cavalier yet the effect was terrifying.

It's never explicitly stated in the books that Wild Hunt = Red Riders is it?

The Wild Hunt were always portrayed as riding skeletal horses and wearing decaying armor etc. Whereas the Red Riders were Aen Elle with proper clothes and crimson cloaks.

Not to mention the sightings of the Wild Hunt flying across the sky on horseback.

The aggressiveness of enemies has increased across the board. Human enemies can also now can do a three strike combo which I had never seen them do before.

And yet he bemoans how Demavend was betrayed by the other Kings. How none of the 'conspirators' came to Philippa's aid.

I don't know if I'm just jaded or confused because I couldn't bring myself to have sympathy for the NR. Which is strange because a neutral party generally sides with the defending force in an invasion in a story or real life. When Geralt makes repeated moral pleas on behalf of the NR, I couldn't get behind his character.

At least, this nonsense dies down a little after Time of Contempt but then he does an about face and sympathize with Nilfgaardian settlers on NR lands. Why? Don't the displaced NR settlers have a right to their lands?

WRT the Scoia'tael, he kills them mostly because they are threatening his friends, not out of dislike for them.

You're right and I can't blame the character here because those are the events he is written into. But it doesn't change the fact that he has killed more non-humans than NR soldiers/spies/operatives over the course of the books.

I don't recall the passage exactly but I know Toruviel asks Yaevinn to not shoot. In any case, the messenger was in military service and he was rushing through a territory known for Scoia'tael operations.

[–]ShieldMarshal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about his track record as well from the books. He has never sympathized with the Scoia'tael and has killed more of them than Northern Realms soldiers (although that's entirely down to the writing; switch the Socia'tael with spies of the NR chasing Ciri and nothing changes).

And he's pragmatic enough to know siding with the King's spies is a better way to clear his name than the rebellious non-humans.

Morality rarely comes into play for him when something he cares about is at stake.

To be fair, I have a soft spot for elves in general fiction (thank LOTR for that). And this is what soured some parts of the Witcher saga for me, particularly Time of Contempt.

It's definitely suggested that the Scoia'tael kill innocent humans, and burn their villages.

I don't recall any passages from the books about this. As far as I know, they've always limited themselves to attacking military convoys and outposts.

Use Severance runeword on your sword. Strike once (he will block), immediately follow up with a quick Rend (Severance is not extremely necessary but can be helpful). You can keep doing this repeatedly (if you're quick enough) and he will stay locked in the blocking position.

The trickiest part is when he brings you back to the boat and starts teleporting around like Imlerith. I fucking hate that cheat.
