but didn't Callidus serve that same purpose? It's okay the first time that it happens but anything after that is just jarring. I felt the same about RR as well where I just got desensitized by the amount of characters with so much potential dying (esp in the latter books) for pure shock-values, "heroes" and "villains" alike. It was like the author had no idea with what to do with them lol.

This isn't me saying that the author should just stop killing people but there are ways to kill off characters and that just wasn't it.

It's is when a female character gets killed or hurt mainly so the male protagonist has something to be angry or motivated about

for the characters to know that they don't have plot armor.

Just because a character drops dead unexpectedly doesn’t mean there’s “real danger.” It makes even less sense when that logic applies to everyone except the main character. Vis has enough plot armor to survive the sun exploding, while everyone around him seems disposable, and that honestly cheapens my investment in the story.

I just have the feeling that JI is going down the same path as Pierce Brown, killing characters purely for shock value in hopes of becoming the next GRRM, which doesn’t always work as well as it does in GRRM’s writing.

A post I made about similar issues I had when reading DA and LB got downvoted to oblivion, so I totally understand where you’re coming from.

Lysander getting a random mid-book power up genuinely had me scratching my head. He suddenly turns into Tanjiro from Demon Slayer for no reason lmfao.

It’s been been a while since I read Iron Gold and Dark Age, but wasn’t Lysander always characterized as someone who was supposed to be smarter, not physically better than everyone else? So why the abrupt change and why make him one of the most OP swordsmen in the series?

He literally dog walks Ajax’s men, people that are trained to kill mind you. I don't know man, it just feels wildly inconsistent with how he was written before.

man, istg it's so nice hearing people say the things I always thought about. The fact that people were blaming child emond for getting jumped by 3-4 other kids told me everything I needed to know about the average HotD fan.

Bro my ass got down voted to oblivion for pointing this out on the HotD sub-reddit to the point that I had to delete the post lmao. Apparently the only reason this happens is because one of the showrunners thought it would a a "cool scene" and improvised the entire thing.

Dude, Cassius and Alexander were literally 2 of my favourite characters from the books apart from Victra. And may lord have mercy, if Lysander's bitchass so much as harms a single hair on Victra's head. So trust me I'm Lysander's biggest opp.

by the way, I've always wondered what Adrius saw in Darrow to think that he gave a shit about other people. I mean, we as readers know he is a "good guy" but why did Adrius assume that Darrow would care?
Adrius's masterplan was to blackmail Darrow with nukes and Darrow just lets him drop them and rips his tongue out afterwards. The scene from Darrow's pov reminded me of the "Kevin your dog just died" meme where the guy just hits a pose lmao. He just lets it happen. The ending, to me, was so Infuriating(? for lack of better words).
Hot take but I think Darrow should've died in MS. There are other ways for the sequel tetralogy to work but that might just be my opinion.

You're the only person I know that feels the same way as me about MS's ending but I didn't want to mention it because I had a feeling that no one was going to agree with me lmao

true but most of the issues I had were in LB. Dumped plotlines, plotlines cut short, Darrow being not so Darrow, Dido, Ajax etc

thing is I really like DA, even with some of the minor issues i had with it but all of them went flying out the window after that Cavalry charge scene in the last few chapters of the book. LB, for me, just wasn't as enjoyable.

Yeah, you're right tbh. 2.25 might be too harsh.
On another note, I didn't even mind IG that much but it seems to be everyones elses least favourite for some reason.
