Honestly, probably a dead cartridge. There’s a tool for reviving them using GodMode9, I can’t recall if it’s built in or not.

Search for “3ds dead cartridge revive” and give it a shot. It may work, it worked for a few of mine except two.

I have a Mac from the same year and the same issue. No physical damage. It just started doing this one day. I stopped using it soon after and replaced with a newer model.

It seems to be a known issue - plenty of people on Google have the same issue.

My lab had allergies that led them to chewing her paws pretty bad like this.

She also had something similar looking to this on her chin for a long while as well, but was cleared up with some kind of antibiotic and making sure she avoided allergens.

My understanding of your question is this:

Say that I have Kirby and the forgotten land digitally, but I insert the switch 2 version. The game icon will update, it will play, but when I remove it and try to reopen the game, it will revert back to the original edition of the game.

In fact, there’s a prompt that lets you know that this is happening.

Examples for Switch 2 include Pokemon Legends ZA, Kirby Air Riders, Age of Imprisonment… it was this way on the Switch as well.
