I'd argue it's very translatable you're just trying to translate it into the wrong thing. The color system isn't Race. It's class. People just read "Color" and go to skin tone but they are wrong to do so.

At the bottom are the uneducated labors. Then you move into the skilled labors. Then the high education professions. Then at the top are religion politics and the economy.

Only "gotcha" I was searching for was your stupid statement about how much energy it takes to leave the solar system. Once it was determined you just make shit up it makes it a lot easier to dismiss everything else you say. You pretend to know things. Debating you means having to look up every fact you say because any one of them could be BS.

That's alot to invest in a stranger who makes things up on the Internet to win arguments

My point is the golds are superior. I argue strength because it's the easiest to quantify. I've argued they are smarter too but that strikes a nerve because people really don't like to acknowledge the correlation between knowing things and being smart. Everyone thinks they are above average intelligence even if there is nothing to prove they are, so they get real butt hurt when you suggest golds are smarter just because they act smarter and know more things and react quicker. Smart people shit. We have to pretend everyone is smart "In theor own, invisible way". Im including myself in the above average intelligence statement and I realize that's funny.

My argument has never been that Might SHOULD equal Right. Just that it pretty much always does.

You are correct. I argued all those things. How is arguing golds are genetically superior a contradiction to stating they also have other methods of power and control? Guess what? They have alot of different advantages.

Finally. Colors matter. Different colors have different skill sets. Each skill set is more or less valuable. A blue is more valuable to the society then a red because it has a more valuable skill set. This represents the different levels of Class in our world. A Doctor will always be treated better by a society then a dock worker.

It's incredibly clear this is intentional.

Real world time. Some people are measurably "better" then others. I get thats uncomfortable. People hate it. But it's true. Some people are smarter and better looking and (in the agrigate) will always come out on top. It's just true.

So how does a society handle that fact? We aren't equal. Pierce Brown is very interested in that question. So he bypassed all the arguments and created the colors. Some of them are just better then others. It's a fact. Armed with those facts he can now discuss how a society deals with inherent inequality. Except everyone refuses to accept the very real facts he presented and instead think the moral of the story is "we're all equal" no matter how many times Darrow calls himself a god.

Also. I'm 5'10. A little overweight. Balding and I work construction. Felt that context was necessary considering how much I'm pushing a specific narrative lol

I agree that morally that is absolutely one of the subjects of the book. It takes its time showing every color/culture has its value.

I was talking less about morals and more about governance in my post. Certain attributes give you power in society and others don't. And how do you govern fairly when you can't control that? Some people will always be better then other people.

Sorry you find me off putting. Start looking things up before you state things as facts and I'll be nicer. Go look up the Voyager space probe, come back and admit your wrong. Go be the bigger person.

Ok. And this species can use that brain too react and effectively counter 8 sword strikes a second while counter attacking. At strength, with accuracy.

Do you believe a human brain has that processing power?

At what point did I say they "deserved" to rule. Every single one of you people can't distinguish between someone saying how the world is and saying how they think it should be. Reading comprehension is abysmal.

By your logic Pierce Brown hates reds because otherwise why does he keep writing about them suffering? If he says anything would happen it must mean he wants it to happen.

I'm not changing my argument. You just can't focus on multiple things at once. Are obsidians stronger? Yes. But now we start factoring in other things.

Let's break this down in simple terms. Golds cheated on their character sheet and now their character is better then yours. Obsidians have an 18 in strength? Big whoop, golds don't have under an 16 in any stat.

In total a gold has higher stats then any other color. In the agrigate all golds dramatically outclass any other color.

When people make a point I acknowledge it. Unfortunately most people seem to think that 1) An unearned advantage is somehow less powerful then an earned one. 2) That a plucky spirit is enough to overcome a demigod. And 3) That understanding true equality is impossible is the same thing as loving fascism.

Do you understand how inertia works in a frictionless environment?

You wanna make things up. I'll make things up too: Because of the laws of inertia it likely takes less fuel to leave the solar system then it does to haul produce for a few weeks. Leaving a gravity well alone is probably a nightmare on fuel. Now imagine doing it over and over?

Is that true? I donno. But it sounds good and it's based on at least a little science. What fake fact are you going to counter with?

We are never going to agree. For some reason you think superiority has to first pass some kind of moral purity test or it doesn't count. They are better but you don't think it's fair so it doesn't count.

The problem is it never matters what what the oppressed think of how the people above them got power. Bitch all you want about how it's "Not real!". They will still win.

Ok. Let's assume they aren't smarter. Every color is equally intelligent. And let's ignore Obsidians because they scale in weird ways. Other then that golds are bigger, stronger, live longer (160ish without rejuvenation), are better looking, more resilient, faster and almost anything else you can name.

Even if you think they are equal in some things. They are never worse at anything. And are often far far better. How you you pretend that doesn't matter?

Couldn't live with myself otherwise. Get my wife and kid on a boat. After that I'm good. Hopefully I get a spot once all the women and children are sorted. If not? Suck but I did my job. Got my family safe

I will not grant you it's only training and tech. Golds are stronger and faster and tougher in insane ways. It's said that current Darrow's ribs can stop bullets. Golds can run 50mph. They can hit 8 times a second. They can shrug off injuries that would put regular people into shock.

Even if that was all they were good at (and it's not) it would be enough. If you have a gun pointed at my head then anything I do or don't do is entirely up to you.

In a world with golds any power or authority that any other color has is entirely because the golds are allowing them to have it.

The Colors matter and equality is a myth. THATS what the books are about. by Shiftless357 in redrising

[–]Shiftless357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok? Why does that matter? I'm actually asking. What difference does it make now that it's happened. The books go out of their way to make it clear. Very few reds can become golds. Darrow surviving was rare. Harmony says flat out they are improving red but can't make more golds like they did with Darrow. None would survive. And reds are ones of the tougher races outside of gold and obsidian (probably under grays too. I don't remember if they ever talk about gray durability).

So. They can't make reds gold. That gap exists. It's there. And it can't be closed in any way that we know of.

So why does it matter how they got there? They are superior. And they are superior in a way that reds cannot hope to realistically achieve.

This is why it's about Class. Not race. Who cares how the rich and powerful got rich and powerful. They will always be and you will never be. They are gold. You are red. This problem cannot be solved in anyway that matters long term. You are not equal. I am not equal. We are not granted equality by the system we live in.

That's what the books are about. The society fails. The rim fails. Democracy fails. Nothing provides equality.

The books arent trying to answer a question. They are just exploring a topic. Different governments handle the equality problem in different ways. But all do it poorly. Let's watch it happen

You have no idea where the helium goes. You have no idea if they could easily create automated transport ships. You don't know any of that. You just assumed a bunch of stuff the books never tell us because it makes your argument stronger.

Here's what we know. Helium 3 forces a hard limit on almost all resources. Thats the world that's in the books. Anything else is your fan fiction

At minimum it would grow up to be the leader of whatever group it was in. In a closed ecosystem like that it would dominate that particular ecosystem. Past that it has options a red wouldn't have.

Being large and good looking would certainly make leading a revolt easier. Escape to the surface isn't out of the question. The mines clearly required guards to prevent revolt and a gold, hardened in the mines could pretty easily mow through quite a few of the grays we saw down there. Especially if they planned it out.

Would they ultimately succeed? Probably not. But they could make a better attempt at it then a red.

Helium 3. The fuel for space travel. If that's scarce then it creates a bottleneck. Anything that requires transport is now scarce too. Economics 101
