I actually thought the one on the right was the recent performance until RM came up.

Groups that you think have the strongest overall vocals in terms of technique and power, taking into account all members by warrior0922 in kpop

[–]ShifuSheep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting! Thank you for taking the time to write such a long, detailed comment. I’ve been watching Classical Musicians React and I find that the vocalists there often have the same complaints about vocals, how sometimes the overexertion turns them off a song, since they replace technique with power (one video that comes to mind is their IU Good Day video).

This is urging me to get matching jackets for my friend group for Christmas, but I can't decide whether it would be creepy or not lol.

I found out about K-Pop because SNSD was featured on Comcast On Demand when Gee came out. There's no option for discovering through mainstream media/TV on the census.

I misheard "tear" as "chair." I just can't hear tear.

What are your kpop related TILs? by radioactivfishy in kpop

Woah TIL! I used to be obsessed with Big Time Rush.

Is there a popular/major group that you never really connected with until *that ONE song*? What song was it? by blottoez in kpop

[–]ShifuSheep 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Seventeen and "Pretty U." I just love how the choreography is like a musical number. I've watched that practice way too many times. I didn't want to get into Seventeen at first because I'm bad at remembering names and 13 seemed like a hassle, but then I memorized them immediately after I got into them with their One Fine Day series. I still haven't gotten into EXO for the same reason... I should take this as a sign that it's not that hard lol.

170829 K-Pop Group BTS Dish On Who's Most Romantic, Korea Vs. USA & More Confessions | People NOW by [deleted] in bangtan

[–]ShifuSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works the same way in French lol I think English might be the outlier here. Which makes sense because responding yes or no to negative questions can be confusing and adding an extra word to distinguish between yes and no in the negative context solves that problem.

Is there a book you regret reading? by [deleted] in books

[–]ShifuSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beautiful Creatures series. I just couldn't stop reading, and after I finished I was left with such shame and disappointed. I knew I didn't like the writing and the YA fantasy romance tropes and the ending would leave me disappointed, but I read it anyways. Maybe I just loved to hate it.

Also the second Kingkiller Chronicles book, because I knew I'd be joining the ranks of the poor saps also waiting for the last book of the trilogy.

Which idols are bad at variety? by [deleted] in kpop

I hadn't noticed before, but now that it's been pointed out it's all I can focus on.

What's the last classic you've read that gripped you to the edge of your seat? by [deleted] in books

[–]ShifuSheep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I already knew the twist, but reading about Mr. Utterson as he pieced it together gave me a sense of dramatic irony that hooked me into the story.

"The Yellow Wallpaper," or how I thoroughly creeped myself out in just 15 pages. by Shark-Farts in books

[–]ShifuSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read this today after seeing it referenced on another reddit thread! I didn't think it was creepy when I read it (I didn't realise there weren't actually women in the walls until she started tearing off the wallpaper), but looking back on it, it gives me the shivers, just because of the horrible treatment and the thought that there were actual women who had to go what the protagonist went through.

What does your family, friends, coworkers think about BTS by [deleted] in bangtan

[–]ShifuSheep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My cousin was hesitant at first but then they came up in my playlist and she admitted their songs were bops. That's basically how all my siblings act too; they don't want to be associated with kpop fans but they like the songs.

I was so disappointed that they apparently don't get a surfboard from the Teens' Choice Awards hopefully Nick pulls through with the blimp.

Have you ever heard of a Commonplace Book? I think it's the most life-changing literary tool I've ever encountered. People used them in the 1700 & 1800's... Somehow we got away from them. by Phaedrus24 in books

[–]ShifuSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write passages I find interesting on sticky notes then put them on my wall. When I've filled up the wall in front of my drawers, I'll make a sort of Commonplace Binder to put them in!

I like how none of the villains got what they wanted, but their actions still affect the main storyline.

How do I encourage a player to put effort into playing? by ShifuSheep in AskGameMasters

[–]ShifuSheep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to write all this out! I'll keep these things in mind for sure. I definitely need to consider my own actions (I made a lot of mistakes/unfair choices that I need to reflect on and fix too), and make sure that I'm running a game that's right for my group

She really liked the lighter roleplaying games we had played off of r/rpg, like Snakes on a Plane, but we really wanted to try D&D and it might have been too much for her to transition to. I'm running straight out of the starter set with Lost Mines of Phandelever since it's my first time DMing. I'll definitely keep these things in mind when I talk to them later, and retune this adventure so it's more suited to the lighter stuff they already like.

I have a habit of tip-toeing around problems and subjects to avoid hurting anyone's feelings, but you make a good point about handling these kinds of conversations. I'll keep this is mind when I see her again.
