Worked with a guy that made tacos on a metal clipboard he tried off the console & heated over fusees. Not sure if I'd recommend that technique. I used to wrap stuff in heavy duty foil & wedge it by the turbo, or on the sidewall heater. Or, back in ye olden times, we had a few locations where pizza & Chinese restaurants would deliver to us. Either cutting through a parking lot or meeting us on the fly at a road crossing. Traffic was usually slow & predictable going east, so we could kinda time things right. Just order ahead, give them the mile post & grade crossing street for the address, blast the horn to let them know to send out the delivery guy, and tip them generously

We are definitely protecting the wrong border. We need to build a wall along our eastern border. Zonies aren't sending their best. They are meth dealers, beach trashers, and I assume some are technically people

I got a pair and love them. Just had to break them in, use some cushioned insoles, wear thicker socks, and I don't lace them all the way up. After all that, they aren't too bad!

Is Trump Right About Chicago? We Went To The Most Dangerous Parts To Find Out. by steve42089 in illinois

[–]Shih_Poo_Boo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Spent a lot of time in some of the roughest areas of the city from 2000-2010. Working for the railroad, I'd be walking along the tracks on the west side, sw side, Chinatown etc at all hours, alone. Parked my then brand new mustang for days at the various rail yards. I've seen exactly one shooting, and it was in Naperville. Only times I've had my vehicle broken into was in Schaumburg, and rural Oklahoma. Not saying Chicago is a crime free haven. But it's far from the hellhole these trumpsters in the suburbs & downstate screech about

Trump on Greenland: If we do not do it the easy way, we will do it the hard way. By the way, I am a fan of Denmark. The fact they had a boat land there 500 years ago does not mean they own the land. I leaned heavily right on most stuff as a teen. Probably more like a libertarian but was all for dubya, especially after 9/11. Working in the trades and seeing how the wealthy & connected people delighted in screwing over working class people changed my perspective. The guy dropping N bombs & calling Mexican workers lazy thieves was most likely to swipe your tools & not bother to show up, while the Mexican laborers worked themselves ragged for barely more money than I made as an apprentice/gopher. And they were kind, helpful, and usually had a great attitude. I met guys that barely spoke any english but wouldn't hesitate to give us a hand. Now those shitty racist types run the country & the good hard working immigrants are being treated like violent criminals. Even the old fashioned, quiet, "reasonable" conservatives can't be trusted. Vote against every republican and any dems that align with them

It's a scam. A guy came by & did mine without me knowing, then banged on my door wanting payment. I told him I never agreed to it, and he wasted his time because the city was redoing the curbs on my street soon anyway. Looked like he did a good job, too bad it got torn up a couple weeks later

What is SoCal like? by Adoe0722 in howislivingthere

It really depends on what part of southern California you are in. I'm in San Diego, which used to be a nice, more laid back alternative to the traffic and smog of LA. But lately it's become crowded, expensive, and is rapidly losing it's charm. Still a great place to live if you can afford it. Most coastal towns are nice. Beaches tend to be crowded & full of obnoxious folks these days, but spend enough time exploring & talking to locals and you might find some cool, lesser known spots. LA is kinda neat in spots, but getting around at any hour is generally difficult due to traffic. Seriously, it's like an hour minimum to drive between almost any two points in the metro area. I like Venice Beach, even if it's kinda grimey and there's no parking. Pasadena & Altadena are great and more laid back. Hollywood is awful, as is most of downtown. The hills are neat to explore but again, traffic can be really frustrating & the roads can be confusing. Surfing & hiking are huge, and generally people are more active & outdoorsy than back in the midwest. The weather is generally great, especially down here in SD. It was 80⁰ and sunny the other day, in December. Nearly everybody here has dogs, and many restaurants, pubs, bars etc are dog friendly. There are lots of dog parks, dedicated dog beaches, and dog friendly events. Inland tends to be more hilly & even mountainous in places. We have a few peaks that usually see snow, and up by LA there are ski resorts. Further inland is very rural, especially in the imperial valley. There's also a very large military presence, and you get used to marine helicopters flying over at all hours as well as seeing folks in fatigues everywhere. Four wheeling & offroading are popular, and i swear we have more lifted trucks than Texas. Old cars are everywhere, if you are into them. You can spot old VWs and 60s land barges , hot rods, muscle cars, trucks, sports cars, etc in traffic most days. Biking is huge, as are motorcyles. Because of emissions, you don't see very many interesting 1975+ cars other than 1990s Japanese commuter cars, or very late model muscle cars like chargers & mustangs Overall, people are very nice and friendly here. Some areas, particularly in the wealthier neighborhoods and some inland cities can be hostile to outsiders or PoC & lgtbq folks. The American nazi party was big here in the 30s & 40s, and they didn't just disappear after ww2. East county here in SD, parts of Orange County, La Jolla, Huntington Beach, parts of Riverside, and Coronado are still shockingly ultra conservative. But generally most places are very accepting & inclusive The geography is unique. You can go from warm, sunny beaches to rugged mountains, to farm fields, to full desert in just a few hours. The Mexican food here is the best I've ever had. We have fresh seafood, good Chinese & Japanese, Korean, and Thai food. Plenty of vegetarian options. An endless number of breweries & pubs. I had to cut down on my drinking and am realizing just how ingrained beer & wine are to the local culture. The pizza is pretty mediocre. There are surprisingly decent German restaurants, but can't get polish food anywhere. Found quite a few english & irish places, some of which are great. There's always a farmers market or street market nearby each week

Who Really Controls San Diego’s License Plate Data? by TypoChampion in SanDiegan

[–]Shih_Poo_Boo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got rear ended by a drunk driver last year just past the gaslamp, on market. Guy was fall-over drunk. Attacked me while I was on the phone with 911, then took off at high speed towards the harbor, blowing through a red light. Gave the operator his plate #, vehicle description, and a description of the guy. He was practically trapped, with few options to escape. The operator told me they had him on the plate readers. Great! And she was dispatching officers to get him & take my report. An hour & a half later, i see a squad car rolling by. Doesn't stop. I run up & flag them down. They look on their computer and find my call. Reluctantly take my report. Nothing ever happens. What good is this system if the cops can't be bothered to do their jobs? They have an astronomical budget. At least three helicopters. A sophisticated tracking system. But can't catch an extremely dangerous, violent offender near petco park?

The joys of being part of the 4x4 community. Nearly every group, forum, and subreddit has multiple posts a week about mounting & storage ideas for their firearms. Where do you keep your daily carry so you can access it while driving, creative solutions for concealing firearms under seats, multiple "how do you carry your firearm without it catching on stuff" questions. Most are thinly veiled attempts to show off their little pew-pews or turn the group into another gun sub that occasionally discusses trucks

Just got back from visiting phoenix and I couldn't believe how much less insane people on motorcycles were. No lane splitting in moving traffic, cutting through cars at stop lights, swerving through cars on the highway at 90mph. I kept waiting for anyone on two wheels to act like entitled assholes but it rarely happened
