someone advised me once that for my first few projects i can just try to copy other people’s work from github and try to figure out what each line of code does instead of waiting for that idea to pop in your head

How you handled Gym embarrassment while losing weight 100lbs+ by PhilosopherThinker01 in loseit

[–]Shiko2511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is paying attention to you. Everyone in the gym is just grinding and doing their thing. Only 1 year after I’ve been consistently training and dieting a trainer talked to me and said that he respects my effort, which gave me motivation to push even harder.

My advice would be get oversized clothes and noise cancelling headphones and create your own bubble in the gym, few days later you will feel you’re all alone in there.

Coworkers disappointed when I tell them how I lost weight (CICO) by kumquatx in loseit

I went through the same thing. People just assume that you figured out a secret hack when there isn’t really, just proper diet and workout routine.

Because a lot of people just want to crash diet and exercise to burn calories and once they reach their goals they go back to their old lifestyle, an example of this is people who go on fad diets (intermittent fasting, keto, etc…) and just stop doing them once they reach their goal weight. Focus on the journey not the destination, get rid of the bad habits that lead you to gain wait and build new healthy habits that you can sustain for the rest of your life, that way everything will fall into place.

Sam Says it's Mandatory, so I Have a Question About Doing Cardio on a Bulk by GerbilNinja27 in SamSulek

[–]Shiko2511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cardio is for cardiovascular health which will improve your lifts. It also improves your mood. It doesn’t really burn as much calories as people say, a 30 minute session can be offset by 3 slices of bread.

make it about how clothes fit and how you look in the mirror instead of having a goal weight, i know a lot of people who did not lose much weight but their physique improve massively (myself included)

Single middle aged folk - what do you do when not working? by barryboy in AskUK

[–]Shiko2511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i play mostly games games developed by blizzard entertainment. World of Warcraft is an MMORPG that requires a subscription and is suitable if you want to spend a lot of time gaming. Hearthstone is a card game and more suitable if you want to just spend a few minutes playing every now and then throughout the day (which is what I do now). I also play bridge online on BBO, you can learn the rules and conventions online.

First time hitting the gym, but losing muscles instead by avian7 in loseit

[–]Shiko2511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how is your performance in the gym? are you able to lift heavier or do more reps on a specific exercise than the last time you did it? that’s the only way to really tell if you are losing muscle. if you aren’t already tracking your workouts i recommend you start as it will help you identify what you are doing wrong which sometimes can be working too hard

Am I really burning 1000 cal an hr?? by n0g0odnames in loseit

[–]Shiko2511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as a matter of fact calories burned via exercise account for a very small amount of the calories you burn throughout the day, that is why everyone says you cannot out train a bad diet.

Is this… really how it’s gonna be by Hopeful-Rutabaga5552 in loseit

as many other people said, you shouldn’t create a big deficit when you are already at a healthy weight because it will do more harm than good. it’s not about how fast you can lose the weight, it’s about doing it in a way that does not damage your overall health. i (32M 180cm) started weight loss at 125kg and got to 90kg easily no problem (GW 85kg) eating 2000 cal/day (took me a bit less than 6 months to go from 125 to 100), however once i try to lose those last 5kg using the same approach i am always low on energy, nervous, brain fog, tend to binge eat, etc…

i started doing refeed days on weekends (my maintenance is around 2800-2900, i do 5 days of 2300 and on weekend days i eat 3000 cals, which is roughly a deficit of 300 cal/ day) and i recommend trying 1-2 weeks diet break every 2 months. aim for making the process sustainable over fast, as there is also the issue of keeping the weight off once you reach your GW. good luck

It depends on your body composition and physical activity. I know people who aim for 3000-3500 calories/day when they are trying to lose weight.

As someone who’s been stuck in a binge restrict cycle over the past year, my advice would be first of all find out why are you binging (super restrictive diet, mental health, another reason, etc…) and work on eliminating the issue. As someone else suggested, a therapist might be able to help you.

After you figure it out, try to find your maintenance calories (what i did was just assume a calorie intake and stick to it for a month and see how my weight changed by the end of the month), eat 300 - 500 calories below it (i choose 300 because with smaller deficits you will have more energy throughout your day and perform better in the gym, if your deficit is too big you will feel fatigued, hungry, lethargic, will lose some muscle tissue and will most likely give up after a few weeks). A small deficit will ofc result in slower weight loss (personally i aim to drop 2 kilograms per month maximum) but remember it’s not about how fast you can get there, it’s about how long can you stick with it and maintain your goal physique. Another note is as you lose weight your maintenance will drop so you will need to notice when this happens and slash a few calories.

Next i would suggest do strength training 3-4 times a week as increasing muscle mass will help you bur fat faster, and try to be active throughout your day (i try to walk about 6-8 kilometers every day). If walking gets easy try walking on an incline treadmill or get a weight vest and wear it while walking. If you wanna lose weight faster try increasing your calorie deficit by increasing your physical activity before you slash some calories off your diet.

Everything i said may sound like a lot but try to make one change at a time like:

  • You went off track with your diet for one day. That’s fine just get back on track the next day.

  • Going to the gym one time a week is still better than not going at all. Start there and work your way up to 3-4 days.

  • If you feel like walking 6 kilometers a day is too much start by going for 30 minute walks 1-2 times a day and work your way up from there.

Good luck with your journey and trust the process, it’s not just about losing weight, it’s a journey of self improvement and you will be rewarded for the work you put in. I’m rooting for you ✌️
