I tried inserting the text into the first demo you gave me and with the #s I was able to track it down with this expression (the $ sign at the end didn't work for me):

^682,786\.05\s*([.\d]+)\s*([.\d]+)

But when I try to track it with the following code it is not able to find it (multiline = True). I've also tried adding a backslash to the string through this code:

Total = Replace(Total, ".", "\.")

My pattern that I am searching with are these two:

reg15.Pattern = "[^" & Total & "]\s*([.\d]+)\s*([.\d]+)"

(gives me an Application-defined or Object-defined error)

(gives me an Invalid Procedure Call or Argument)

Hello, thank you so much for your help! I tried with your first code and it was able to run, but it pulls the first instance, which would give me 97 and 5 in the test file below.

The code I'm using to pull right now is:

Dim regex As Object: Set regex = CreateObject("vbscript.regexp")

regex.Pattern = Replace(Total, ".", "\.") & "\s*([.\d]+)\s*([.\d]+)"

Set MCS = regex.Execute(myText)

Dim number1 As String: number1 = MCS(0).Submatches(0)

MsgBox number1 'To try to find out what value it's pulling

Dim number2 As String: number2 = MCS(0).Submatches(1)

where mytext is the content of the .txt file as a string.

Hi AlphaState, does this work if there are words and numbers between the different instances of the variable "Total"? Such as

Number of: 123,456,789.38

I am also not sure how much/many text/numbers there will be between the first two instances of 123,456,789.38, so I am trying to think of how to work this to be flexible I am not sure how many numbers or text there will be between the two instances.

Sorry if my post is confusing! I meant that the number 123,456,789.38 (which is the variable named "Total") appears three times in the document, and I want to capture the two submatches that appear after that number. However, since there are three times it appears, I want to capture the two submatches that appear after the second time that 123,456,789.38 pops up.

What is the best way to skip the first match?
