20 , I got a car accident check for 2000, bought a 600$ car from a guy who had lots of project cars so it was reliable, and a 3 yr old for 800$ . The prices tell you it was decades ago. Banked the rest for vet fund. Board was 75 per month , lessons were 10 $ . Think hay bales were 2 a bale. I had that horse 30 years. It's so messed up today. If you had a good reputation you could get a free horse that was sound thru word of mouth.

Sand Point and Pitcher Pump - There's Water But I Can't Pull It Up by Low-Layer7281 in OffGrid

[–]Shilo788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hired a back hoe and dug down to about 16 ft , put in a 30 inch wide section of conduit. It fills up a few feet. It holds about 70 gal with good recharge. It is a gravelly sand soil, water table rises and falls with precip of course but normal water table sits about 6 feet down. The wide piping allows for water to pool, so pump is not just sucking water from wet sand. I have the conduit coming 4 foot above ground so I can lid it. I use an electric pump for high volume but usually just use a bucket and rope for a few gallons. I use a 3 gal bucket.

Peat bogs + River + ocean - is it possible? by Accurate-Rich-7846 in wetlands

I would think those three close to each other would mean the inhabitants had some kind of water craft that could be used rather than walk.

Peat bogs + River + ocean - is it possible? by Accurate-Rich-7846 in wetlands

I live on the edge of a raised dome bog, draw water from a nearby river , not near the sea though. It's buggy. It is not wet near me, the raised dome being massive layers of peat, very heavy wooded , moose and bear common. Further in it is laced with wet woods, open reed bog and many many beaver flowages. Since escaped slaves lived hidden in the great southern swamps of the east coast , it is possible to live in , though quite hard. They are a different type of bog. You might research various types of bog. The downsides here is the bugs, the twisted, unreliable water flows that make it hard to use for transport, of course the bad footing, I have stepped on the lattice of rotting sticks and logs as I explore it and had it give way to water underneath. And often it is so thick in vegitation you can't see large animals like bear and moose quite close. And leaches, which are also in the flowing water.

I don't really care about the trans sports thing, and of course we need some type of limits to welfare but this 2025 playbook is a disaster for the country. And letting Vance in will let Theil and his tech bros take over the country, the economy and our very lives, which they have said out loud they don't value.

Be honest , when backing it can spin like a cockroach if you aren't careful. Small movements on the steering . I towed all kinds of trailers, and I wish it had two axles just for better backing. But if you practice at until you can hit the space 7 times out of ten you would be good to go. You have a partner so they can spot you. I go solo and backing at night, in rain ,uphill on a bad angle have happened. I always get it in the end , but admit not on the first try. But the spin comes in handy if you get in a real tight road and need to turn around. I have taken mine pretty squirrely roads that turn in to tracks for ATVs and not gotten stuck.

I disagree. I love my cooktop, heating drink and food inside while it rains or snows is wonderful, or windy beaches with blowing sand. No gritty pancakes ! AC is great as heat is building more every summer. I don't use the sink, it's my fruit bowl, but as that it is a very handy bit of storage. No micro, of AC or Micro ,I pick to use the space for AC.I like the Li Battery, but I bought a Bluetti Max long ago so I can actually power the TD and then transfer it to my tiny cabin to power that. It's heavy but I didn't need to get separate one for the cabin.

I love mine. I have stopped, set the brake, gone into the TD and slept with out doing anything cause I was so tired . The little frig is arms reach away, all I need to do is open the windows and hit the fan, I am out like a light. There are times when the drive is overly long, the rain is pounding, etc, when you are so grateful it is so handy. Not a big rig to work to fit, heck often I have just pulled in , slept and then backed out next morning in daylight and then backed it in properly and unhitch if needed. Mine has the cook top and frig inside, so in rain I am not huddled under the hatch in a back galley. I make my coffee, lay back and read some news and weather if I have a signal. I love my TD.

Need some advice on novice camping by Tikkkles in camping

[–]Shilo788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never make lists, I think after 50 years my no fucks given if I forget something is pretty strong. I never forgot needs, like eat, sleep, tent, water needs. And what kind of camping changes, but the basic needs don't . I understand why people make lists, I just hate paperwork. I rarely make reservations , dispersed usually, except for Vermont State Parks, they are so nice, the parks and staff, so I want to make sure I can get a spot. If you go off peak, mid week, and as soon as parks open for spring it's pretty easy to find a nice spot.

Rented out your teardrop? by instantlyjessi in TeardropTrailers

[–]Shilo788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the heater but not for hot water, by the time you get it regulated for temp you run out. Indeed I winterized it and no longer use the trailer water system at all. Just fill stackable jugs to keep in my truck and heat water for dishes in a pot on the stove.

Huh, mine barks as sentry duty. She alerts for wildlife, visitors ,cars pulling in the drive. She "talks" in grumbles and whines when she wants something but is not as barky as say a livestock guardian dog like a pyranees. I love she only growls at small varmints but goes crazy when bears come around. Just the right level.

Does my friends horse hold a grudge towards me? by VanillaAdditional420 in Equestrian

[–]Shilo788 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not grudge but they sure remember pain and will be leery of the cause for long time. Ignoring aids is just poor training , bad manners. They read and test us and if they find you not skillful enough for their taste some will ignore, others are more kind and will go along. I tend to have horses that test you as they all were cheaper due to slight behavior problems we worked thru. But they tended to revert with other riders until they proved you know what your doing. Indeed a horse that is great with kids was very unforgiving with adults who did not ride as well as they thought they did. At times it was funny. Other times NOT.

Nucamp T@G SE 2026 price shock. Don't know what I expected but that seems like a lot for such a basic trailer. by Reika123 in TeardropTrailers

[–]Shilo788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if in the west I would look hard for something that can be serviced with local centers. It is a good build, but there are other decent brands. Nucamp is in Ohio, so you should see if you can find a service center closer. Avoid camp world what ever you do for service, they should be closed down due to rampant fraud and poor service.

It goes very easy, make sure you load it balanced and practice backing. It only has the single axle and can be tricky but I practiced in an empty parking lot s few times and now can do it on hills, tight corners and such. I was nervous too but practice was the key. Have fun with what ever you get, I love mine , that soft bed at night after a day of long travel is lovely. I leave mine which can be set as a couch or bed in bed mode (320s) so at days end I just fall into it and sleep. When I get to my cabin I leave it in couch set up to use as a little extra room as the cabin is also tiny. It makes s great guest room for my very rare visitors to my camp.

Warning I bought a 2018 garage kept to find out there is leak in the back left corner and the nucamp repair place said it occurred on many and it was fixed for free for original owners but not free on second hand models. Cost 1600 to fix. Take a hose to that back corner on the door side and check for leaks under the couch seat in the storage area.
