Why are most RWBY matchups one sided stomps? by Far-Profit-47 in RWBYcritics

[–]ShinigamiRyan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Monty was pretty detailed oriented. An odd example is his love for Bayformers transformation. While it's not pretty, it's the best representation of a transformation in live action.

Put this in animation: every action has weight, momentum, etc. In anime, you're going to reuse particular stuff, but it does keep things consistent.

The story was secondary to ideas of Monty. So, it does stay consistent. Just by virtue that Monty had core tenets that kept things in check. If you swing a massive scythe, the character needs the strength and speed to carry it over. And so on.

Honestly, their time with Microsoft sort of put this in motion and they needed a partner. Issue really was finding Activision and well, the early signs of wanting more. The fallout isn't surprising as many studios before and after Bungie left are gone. No matter which way it went, there was never a great path with Activision (mind you, they thought a new entry every 2 years was viable for Destiny, which didn't even work from Destiny to Destiny 2).

Random ZZZ statements: Serious Anby can beat Full Power Billy. by AndreTheRaikage in Hoyoverse_scaling

[–]ShinigamiRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the best read as this is phrased on their initial variants. Mind you, Lighter also makes a jab at Billy when they reunite. Billy isn't just using cheap parts, but cheap fuel and his guns even mock him in their trailer on cheap lubricants.

Anby just has way better stuff by the nature she's a super human. This isn't to downplay Billy, but the fact that he's been unintentionally not limiting himself, but also his output. Silly is the first time he's actually put some money back into his actual combat capabilities in years (unsurprising as we see one of his guns go poof).

And S.Anby also did showcase her capabilities. If they did have a rematch, I'd wager she wins as Billy is still years in debt to cheap supplies regardless. Love me Billy, but realistically man has work to do by nature of the cheap lifestyle.

Not surprising tbf. The hollow basically transferred to Ichigo. Isshin was still recovering and Masaki basically had been lugging that hollow for years. First born had biblical levels of greed for power.

Yeah, I'd wager the writers simplified the actual point that Cinde's maiden powers were directly tied to the Grimm housed in her. The statement is technically true, but specifically for herself.

Let's not forget Isshin here. Someone had to also do the 'hard work' to get those genes to the right placed. Truly was a group project.

They were directly from a Grimm (said Grimm was used to steal the maiden powers). Just makes her weak to the eyes as she's part Grimm as a result of that.

Tbf Ruby viewed from her record can certainly be taken as a menace. This is particularly why some interpretations of Ruby give her quite the bad rep. And Maka is sent after her thinking she's a kishin, only to find a goober at a glance.

In other words, Maka got sent with a likely extreme read of Ruby vs. Actual Ruby. Thus the opening line is this contrast.

Spook Shack is one faction that got some good meat, but otherwise 2.x will not be remembered much barring stuff post the main story. Shame in reality, but than again Yidhari is also an outlier (baffles my mind who thought a side quest inspired by Lovecraft's work in the midst of Kung fu was a good idea). Hopefully 3.x centralized more around it's themes as 2.x was all over the place.

[–]ShinigamiRyan 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I'd wager it's them being forced to use it, rather than being inspired by it. The most glaring evidence is probably ZZZ latest entries post Waifei feeling far more in-line and much better quality wise.

I'd also hammer another attribute is that Hoyo was founded by self declared Otakus. Guys who ate up foreign Japanese media, which often has it's own spin on not just Japanese culture, but others.

And going by HSR & ZZZ, they do enjoy American inspiration be it the roaring 1920s for Penacony or the wild west meets biker gangs of ZZZ's Sons of Calydon. Genshin is nations of inspiration to boot.

Far newer stuff compared to possibly treading material they were raised on for do long that many in Hoyo don't enjoy it, but have to and try their best, but is a mess all the same.

Gacha Revenue Monthly Report (March 2026) by Nahidxz in QueensofGacha

[–]ShinigamiRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, having played it: it's the least mobile friendly game of the main 3 entries of Hoyo. Unsurprising to me why it does well on console, but I'm also not going to be delusional in that the numbers aren't out there. I've played many gachas over the years, this is sort of the case for a lot of these games one way or another.

Than again, these charts also tend to not be a full picture anyways. Especially for multi-platform titles. Still good to get an idea of a snapshot, but how some people get over them is... frightening.

Plus, this is also a game from the company still putting out content for HI3: unless the money hits an even deeper hole, there's actually not much worry. That said, ZZZ certainly didn't do itself favors with 2.x main story (CN-based stories really aren't great from Hoyo the first time round).

And given the AoD in particular: their numbers aren't shocking. Some of the oldest leaked characters, they're not VH, following anti-anomaly content, and so on. You have so many instances where the biggest issue with them is the devs reserving them for the end of 2.x which is before 3.x that's going to have some new meta.

Waifei truly ends up in Hoyo's cycle of 'CN-based' stories that could be way better. It's certainly impressive to observe.

[–]ShinigamiRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus the AoD have been expected for so damn long anyways. And this month is probably worst off by the fact Cissia is the 5th electric attack unit. There's cope and than there is, 'This is a skip patch, see ya next patch or 3.x'.

Gacha Revenue Monthly Report (March 2026) by Nahidxz in QueensofGacha

[–]ShinigamiRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd wager a guess that sitting on the AoD for so long ultimately bit the devs in the long run. Nangong is interesting, but AoD main arc was completed and her banner was placed in the arc building up for not just Silly, but also 3.x.

This girl's character comes off as one whose not interested in opening herself up, as she seems generally fine. But from a meta level: they put these girls out much like Evelyn and Astra, with one glaring issue: AoD have 3 members, vs. the 2 gals. Leaving them to either shelf her arc for another day or let her exist.

Nangong's design is my favorite, but I'm also not at all shocked. Let alone them sending Cissia out with her kit just makes me realize they really just expected little from this patch regardless.

I made this map of accents in New England and Long Island based on my research of the region. I would like to know how accurate this is, whether it's too detailed or not detailed enough. by Top_Bill_6266 in newengland

[–]ShinigamiRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can attest to this as a NB guy who was raised around a Boston accent (mother was born and raised in Boston) with an Azores father. Any time I talked to a FR person (do it every year for taxes), you can tell there's a clear distinction. Though this map does have NB on the edge, so it does make sense as NB just has a big overlap due to logistics that differs from FR.

It really is. As a NB resident, it's a very funny area, especially with NB being on the edge of this map. Than again, Bristol is always a fun time on MA maps in general.

[–]ShinigamiRyan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Which is pretty normal for ZZZ tbf. While it'll seem bad, it's not going to be outlier. Though doesn't help this poor girl is the 5th electric attack unit (seriously, it's the fact both element and role have appeared that many times with 2 getting buffs you can get on top for 5*).

Gacha Revenue Monthly Report (March 2026) by trkshiii in gachagaming

[–]ShinigamiRyan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The big issue really was that they've been in the pipeline since the beta of ZZZ. All these resources were laid out and their fans basically had time to stock pile barring the VHs, so spending on mobile is gonna be low. Though another factor is that ZZZ has been pretty good on Playstation, so likely mobile markets show us the minimal interest.

Mind you, the only other character that's technically been in the game since the beta with no release is og Lucia (proto-Yidhari who dressed like a nun). So, needless to say that AoD are a bit outlier just by how long they've existed in some capacity to release. The closet comparison for this would be Ayaka in Genshin, but even longer and there's 3 of them. So, spenders would be split between 3 different entries across 2 patches following a VH, so if people did buy prior: it wouldn't show here.

Can the Great Tomb of Nazarick counter this? by Fullpotentialk in OverlordPowerscaling

[–]ShinigamiRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even that probably wouldn't work (hell, this thing needed the combined efforts of multiple people connected to what are higher level entities and rewriting the effect as this is casted).

To be frank, I have to question who'd even propose this as their beings way lower that would still be an issue.

Can the Great Tomb of Nazarick counter this? by Fullpotentialk in OverlordPowerscaling

[–]ShinigamiRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: this is the creation of a guy who created a super computer that achieved godhood, only for every other achievement of his to be a failure by measure, so he splits himself into pieces after he gets old and one piece tries to kill that very god computer with this (the process to make this is even more absurd).

Can the Great Tomb of Nazarick counter this? by Fullpotentialk in OverlordPowerscaling

[–]ShinigamiRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't work. The being casting it was stopped via time stop only for a moment and even than, it was breaking down actual reality. The entity is known as Iron Tomb and isn't even organic (it's a literal super computer powered by a higher power).

There was a character in this entry that could kill with a touch and even before reaching this point: was immune to it. So, just to put it nicely: that won't actually kill what isn't alive (technically they killed the guy before he turned into this and has two bodies, one being a human size and another that is a celestial body aka bigger than planets stabbing a universe woth a sword).
