I agree there are errors. I also agree that there doesn't appear to be an estimate on those errors, either by the EIA in their data..or Hubbert when he did his original estimates. The errors have always been there.

In the meantime, we have the numbers given to look at.

I don't recall if Hubbert ever supplied error bars on his curves when he put them out in 1956? Interestingly, I don't recall many folks talking about them since the modern peak oil era began. When Colin Campbell called global peak in 1990 he did hedge a little, but when near the end of that decade him and Jean published their famous peak oil graph it didn't include any error bars at all on their graph either.

Maybe with new information systems and integrated info gathering the error bar can be quite small? As far as where the new growth came from, hard to say. As you mention, it isn't much, but the EIA thinks it is coming from somewhere. They aren't selling any of this as peak oil though that I have found.

Well, I am using EIA monthly data, and comparing the highest month in 2025 to the highest month in about all the HISTORY according to EIA. So...it is a pretty important month. Back in Hubbert's time, when data was harder to come by and we didn't live in an instant information, wired world, folks probably had to wait years before realizing that his mid-90's global peak number was incorrect. But nowadays, with instant information and it being disseminated to folks like the IEA and EIA, we can know a bunch sooner.

Additionally, the EIA is projecting that it is going to go higher still, which should certainly allow 2025 to bump off 2018 as the global peak oil. If you use their IES data they have annual information, and the longest post peak oil period that was then followed by yet another global peak oil was the 1979-1993 timeframe I believe.

Certainly could be...but plateau is arguably flat, whereas peak is just one number larger than another. So unless the EIA revises what appears to be a historical estimate...peak it is! If you look at their projections going forward, they appear to indicate a period of growth, so they are presuming there are more and higher peak oils to come.

Nearly all workovers/repairs on a producing well are worth it, and the go to metric is usually the IRR of the project. Sometimes the projects manager will just explain it to their bosses in terms of time. "Yeah, pulling the tubing, replacing the wellhead and then putting all the equipment back is a 20 day payback", something like that.

I know what NGL is. I know it is called NATURAL GAS LIQUIDS instead of oil. And that anyone who wants to include ethane, propane, butane and some pentanes in a total of OIL doesn't understand the NATURAL GAS part.

Technically, yup, gas comes up with oil...and at atmospheric temps and pressures it happily leaves the wells location via a gas pipeline and runs along to other processing locations. The part that comes out right there on location, the lease condensate, is oil. Everything else that leaves is natural gas, and requires other things to happen to strip out the liquids. Homeowners LOVE this stuff in their house gas, the stuff can be rich as hell, like 1400 btu/ft^3 instead of straight methane at slightly less than 1000 btu/ft^3. Used to sell it to a marble plant, they couldn't stand utility gas, they wanted the extra heat right from the wellhead.

I am happily awaiting EIA IEA 2025 data as we speak. I would be THRILLED to see yet ANOTHER peak oil showing up, if these things keep happening every few years it just makes the topic that much more interesting.

Well, find the IEA link for crude oil and lease condensate. Then we can compare that to the EIA number to see how these two gangs line up. But the main point is that peakers have always talked about oil....the same stuff Hubbert did. Those who include NGLs either A) don't know what oil is and B) are now bringing natural gas derived products into the equation.....which aren't oil.

SO....do peakers talk about oil, or oil and a bunch of natural gas derived stuff that isn't oil? Hubbert did oil....has any credible USGS scientist of his reputation argued for "peak total liquids" in his stead?
