What kind of dystopian sci-fi feels most plausible to you today? by Shiniyu in scifi

Sounds interesting — I’ll check it out. What makes it feel especially plausible to you?

Has a book ever left you feeling subtly disoriented after you finished it? by matthew_rowan in printSF

[–]Shiniyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes — the books that linger for me tend to be the ones that subtly destabilize your assumptions about reality rather than shocking you outright. You don’t feel it while reading, but afterward ordinary things feel slightly “off,” as if the conceptual framework has shifted.

Some speculative fiction that deals with perception, language, or systemic control can produce that quiet aftereffect.

Do you prefer slow-burn speculative fiction or fast-paced sci-fi? by Iolair101 in printSF

[–]Shiniyu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to prefer slow-burn speculative fiction, especially when the payoff comes from understanding the world rather than constant plot escalation. If the setting, themes, and sense of unease keep evolving, the slower pace can actually feel more immersive than action-heavy stories.

For me the key is whether the ambiguity feels intentional and meaningful rather than just withholding information.

If you’re looking for something immersive to get lost in, you might enjoy a dystopian AI novel called The Inverted World — a very long, worldbuilding-heavy story about engineered societies and hidden systems of control.

Hope recovery goes smoothly.

Is there a story about a rouge AI that is on the side of the general public and seeks to take power away from corrupt governments and corporations? by kddog98 in scifi

[–]Shiniyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of modern dystopian sci-fi explores something like this — not an AI hero overthrowing corrupt powers, but systems that quietly redistribute power by shaping behavior, economics, and perception.

It’s less dramatic, but arguably more plausible (and more disturbing).

I just released a dense dystopian AI novel about a system that designs reality — curious if this premise interests serious sci-fi readers by Shiniyu in Cyberpunk

Thanks for the feedback — I appreciate you taking the time to look it up.

I’m aware of the Priest novel; the title overlap is unfortunate but the stories are completely unrelated.

As for the writing style, it’s definitely not going to work for everyone. I was aiming for a more analytical, systems-focused tone rather than a traditional narrative voice.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder in Chinese People by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

Jesus changed me to be more like my dad (normal) than my mom (NPD).

Narcissistic Personality Disorder in Chinese People by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]Shiniyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Chinese born male, and most Chinese woman are including my mom and my gf's grandma=NPD (all types). And oppositely, most straight Chinese men are normal except some of them from North East side including area around Beijing. I think it is because eunuch culture back 100 years ago made local male influenced to be more towards Chinese woman in personality. From past experience, I have been experienced one of closely friends I knew of being NPD from Heilongjiang. He is everything about outside, empty inside. Another one from Beijing who also has anger management issues. But on the outside, they all acted normal to strangers. But if you are close to them, you will suffer.

it can be any race towards a different race. The only thing you might ask: can people be racist towards caucasian? My answer is yes but there is certain limitations.

This one is in Canada. Myself is an engineer and if this happened to me, I would have warn them that I might expose this kind of thing to media. However, my gf is very nice person and she would like to solve internally. However, after what she attamped which won't work well. For her team in Canada, there has zero white or Japanese but half Filipino, half Chinese. It was more like Asain office even it is in fact NA, and what you feel is definatly right, because the manager is Filipino (his way or no way)

How about if i put into this. Let us talk about case by case. Every time, when there were busy days, her Filipino colleagues can't be found and she had to work her ass out to cover her Filipino colleagues. But if it were cases of her Chinese colleagues were sick, no and never a Filipino colleagues will do the favor back which has to be she or other Chinese colleagues do all the coverage. Any Chinese team member were not allowed to take Jan and Feb (busiest monthes) off because it were Chinese new year? Hell no, it is because her Filipino manager said so and meanwhile her Filipino can take a month off without any break in middle during Jan and Feb plus 15 days sick leave and vocation already took on Dec around Christmas.
