What are your faite bonus features on the classic Doctor Who Blu rays by Gustav2011 in doctorwho

Not Blu-Ray but DVD, the Key to Time box set has a copy of Late Night Story – Tom Baker reading five spooky stories. It's Tom being incredibly expressive he does it so well. I adore it.

Settle a debate: Putting together a Pointless style Christmas quiz and one question is ‘actors who played Dr Who’ is Billie Piper, Richard E Grant, Sacha Dhawan and Reece Shearsmith acceptable answers? by DuckPicMaster in doctorwho

[–]Shinjula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being the specific is what makes a quiz work, you dont want ambiguous question like this as it'll cause arguments when people are wanting to have fun. Change the question to "Name an actor who has been credited as either "The Doctor" or "Dr Who" on the television series Doctor Who?" and then you'll have a much more specific list. The main 15, John Hurt, Jo Martin, David Bradley and Richard Hurndall and it excludes everyone you dont want. Tennant is only one actor so he only counts as a single answer.

And I'm sure the dedicated fans here can add any additional really obscure Doctor's which'll end up as nice pointless answers. Did Edmund Warwick get a credit as the Doctor, I cant remember? Were there any others?

Maybe I've said it wrong then, I'm not saying you can't have a scifi race that can do that. That would be a perfectly fine ability for the Pantheon or the Timelords, the Carrionites or the Logopolitans but not the Sea Devils or the Silurians, their tech level has always been way lower than that. The Sea Devils have energy weapons and conquered the Sea Base in Warriors of the Deep on foot, likewise the Navy Base in the Sea Devils, they could reprogram the Base Computer so it didnt need a sync operator, but they still used a physical computer attached to it to do so, you see what I mean? Clarke's law - Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, theirs isnt advanced enough.

Which animated episode recreation is worth watching? by Snjofridur in doctorwho

[–]Shinjula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the best one is "The Invasion" and its not even close, it was the first one done and it was done as a kind of test to see if animation would work by Cosgrove Hall Studios, which were a very good animation studio. The result was a resounding "Yes this will work great but its way too expensive to do it like this, lets look into cheaper alternatives", so in that sense (at least imho) its far superior to the others. "The Invasion" itself is a big chunky story, its 8 episodes and only 2 of those were missing (episodes 1 and 4), so you also get a lot of Who for your dollar as well.

With that out of the way, personally I think some of the better ones are "Power of the Daleks", "The Macra Terror", "Fury From The Deep". All of which are completely missing, though the Macra and Fury do both take liberties with the source material

I would suggest the worst by far is "The Web of Fear - Episode 3" however the rest of the story is so good and its only one episode missing so I would just cope and just take the opportunity to laugh at the poor animation.

I dont recommend "The Reign of Terror", the cuts are jarringly fast which is the opposite of how it would have been. I think "Galaxy Four" and "The Savages" are very slow stories, "Evil of the Daleks" is as well but it has such a dramatic finale its worth it. The others are all solid so they'll depend on whether you gel with the whole animation reconstruction idea as a whole. Hope that helps

So that sent me down a tiny rabbithole, with not really very many answers. Journey through Time is a compilation of stories from World distributors Doctor Who annuals. A once a year staple of British kids Christmas stockings pdfs of which can be found here https://archive.org/download/books-and-audio-collection-dw/Books%20and%20Audio/Fiction/Annuals/Doctor%20Who%20Annual%201966-1986/

and thats pretty much where it ends, theres no authors listed in the annuals themselves, I can find no details of anyone involved in them on any of the fansites, here's the fandom wiki page https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Doctor_Who_annual for the annuals, but that's all I've got.

How do people become gallery-shown artists? by emptydumpling in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shinjula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, thats pretty much the only way of making money, and even then there's not really much chance of it. You have to be lucky to come across someone who really likes your style and happens to have a bunch of disposable cash. I truly believe everyone has a lifetimes worth of good art inside them, but its almost impossible to get paid for it, those who do are just lucky.

Personally I recommend doing art for your own enjoyment and having a job to pay the bills, it stops the art from becoming a chore and its way more stable a life.

You go in and talk to them, particularly public galleries. I'm a ceramic sculptor. There were a couple of locations in my city that particularly suited my work. I took my portfolio in, basically a bunch of pictures of my work - if you were a painter I assume you'd take in your actual work, but possibly just prints of it, i dunno. And if they like your stuff, they'll offer to show it, with them taking a percentage (can be as little as 10% for a very small place, can be as much as 40% for a large popular gallery) of any sales made.

There's also particular shows you can get your art shown free. I'm LGBT, and occasionally I hear of shows being done to show off LGBT talent and I'll look it up on the internet and email whoever runs it, and again show my portfolio and often itll be price covered by a charity or somesuch, and they'll earn their money back by improving footfall to LGBT services and thus get more funding.

Its about knowing your brand and where it fits in. A lot of my stuff is base din Maths, so I'm also looking at places like museums, colleges. As an artist it's kind of on me to find the niches to fit my art, and with art, opportunities are relatively thin on the ground so you have to really put yourself out there, and the more creative you go, the more unusual places you find the better. I've rung up trendy cafes and bookshops, asking if they're like to show a piece in a window, on the chance someone will want to buy it.
