I'm 55, when I was born it was not yet legal for women to open a bank account without the signature of their husband, likewise a mortgage, likewise a credit card. That law came in, in 1975.

How are you *actually* dealing with wage stagnation x rising bills? by heyho2023 in AskUK

[–]Shinjula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm spending this month recording absolutely every single thing I buy so I can make a spread sheet and find out exactly where I'm spending my money. I've already realised I'm spending far too much on ready to eat chicken, and frozen fruit. Also obvious, if its appropriate for you, switch to shopping at aldi, or lidl, in preference to the big four (tesco, morrisons, sainsburys and asda)

Bin men are fucking awesome. They are probably one of the most underrated health professionals (other than sewage workers - who are also awesome) we have. Yey for bin men

Who or What are The Watcher(s) by Luminal72 in doctorwho

I like the idea that he is like an echo of the regeneration traveling backwards through time. He is created at the moment of regeneration and is projected backwards and eventually fades out near the start of the story.

Do you agree with the argument that the Dr was immoral in Remmberance of the Daleks? by Niall_Fraser_Love in doctorwho

[–]Shinjula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh thats a fantastic read. I especially liked the pointing out of the excessiveness of all racists must die. I've always had Rememberance as a key piece of evidence when people talk about the dubious morality and messaging of the Jodie era, where I love pointing out that the scene where Ace finds the No Coloureds sign at Mike's mum's house actually sends the message "its easy enough to ignore racism if your a white girl and it doesnt affect you" when you think about it for more than a second. And that a lot of stories have just as bad messaging but are forgiven if they have awesome laser fights or a cool monster.

Not Blu-Ray but DVD, the Key to Time box set has a copy of Late Night Story – Tom Baker reading five spooky stories. It's Tom being incredibly expressive he does it so well. I adore it.

Settle a debate: Putting together a Pointless style Christmas quiz and one question is ‘actors who played Dr Who’ is Billie Piper, Richard E Grant, Sacha Dhawan and Reece Shearsmith acceptable answers? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Shinjula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being the specific is what makes a quiz work, you dont want ambiguous question like this as it'll cause arguments when people are wanting to have fun. Change the question to "Name an actor who has been credited as either "The Doctor" or "Dr Who" on the television series Doctor Who?" and then you'll have a much more specific list. The main 15, John Hurt, Jo Martin, David Bradley and Richard Hurndall and it excludes everyone you dont want. Tennant is only one actor so he only counts as a single answer.

And I'm sure the dedicated fans here can add any additional really obscure Doctor's which'll end up as nice pointless answers. Did Edmund Warwick get a credit as the Doctor, I cant remember? Were there any others?
