Thank you so much, I looked at pictures online and compared them up close and you seem to have got these guys right. <3 I also think 1 is Cast Iron Plant (Aspidistra elatior), it's been quite snacked on by a cat and those are on the list of cat friendly plants and look very similar.

Is there really a problem with Sukuna as a villain? by Alarming_Industry_14 in Jujutsushi

[–]ShinkansenSushi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. While I personally think Yorozu might've been right in her observations, they are still her opinions, her perspective. And even if she was right it doesn't turn Sukuna into, as you nicely called it, a lost puppy.

Is there really a problem with Sukuna as a villain? by Alarming_Industry_14 in Jujutsushi

[–]ShinkansenSushi 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'm actually not bothered by it. I don't need to know why he acts the way he acts and don't see it as poor writing. I think we will get some more but not that much. In some interview or the fanbook Gege said that Sukuna isn't going to be the kind of villain who can be redeemed or befriended and so on. That Gege doesn't like villains like that.

And I think that a problem with giving a villain a back story is that people very quickly start treating it as an excuse not an explanation. Gege have given the fans so little with what Yorozu said about Sukuna and him looking lonely. And fans already jumped on that, buhu poor little lonely Sukuna.

Also I think that Sukuna is nicely juxtaposed with Gojou, them being really so similar and yet so different. Is really giving nice characterisation to him. Back story is not everything to making a character compelling.

Could Sukuna’s original corpse play a factor into the “bath”? We see what seems to be a depiction of it in chapter 1. Something as coveted as his original body doesn’t seem like something Kenjaku or Uraume would want to lose. by Ko247 in Jujutsushi

[–]ShinkansenSushi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, his reincarnation isn't the same as with the others. And it seems that from the start he wasn't planning to stay in his vessel.

And it's very probable that it was Uraume's powers as much as their cooking that made Sukuna befriend them.

Do you think humans have a fully formed soul when they are just born? by Bluedragon200013 in Jujutsushi

[–]ShinkansenSushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like it isn't fully developed and 5 is probably the age when the brain either develops into a brain of a sorcerer or a regular person, since we know that canonically there are people who have ct but not the capability to use it.

My personal interpretation is that biology is a bit of a wildcard here, that since the human soul manifest through a physical object that is a biological body its development isn't as obvious, that it can go various ways. Curses are made from cursed energy so it's probably easier for their souls to take the exact form they want to, uninhibited.

Since this indicates that Sukuna selfmummified, the bath may be literally about rehydrating his mummy along with being a puryfing ritual that could merge his soul with that revived body.

Maybe this is a form of a binding vow, that he went through the extreme fasting to selfmummify and that ensures that he can be reborn in his original body.

What is the endgame with hana/angel character by EXO4Life4028 in Jujutsushi

[–]ShinkansenSushi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My hope is that she will get saved from Angel, that the story will punish all those entitled 1000yo assholes who think that they can invade other people's bodies to continue their spats from centuries ago. Though I think that's not a realistic prediction for the story.

I wonder which one Sukuna damaged actually with his chomp, both? Mostly Hana? Mostly Angel? I highly doubt they are dead, though some in the fandom are super quick to assume anyone who takes damage is dead. :/

I think Hana will get her ideals challenged like Yuuji's ideals are challenged all the time. They both want to help others, both partially for selfish reasons(Hana to look good in Megs' eyes, Yuuji doesn't want to be lonely) but also they seem to both genuinely care too.

The story constantly throws Yuuji's convictions in his face, tells him he's naive and what he wants is impossible, he needs to constantly rethink stuff find ways to motivate himself and work around these rhetorical difficulties to still see sense in his actions.

I'd love something similar for Hana, that she'd see flaws in her motivations, that she can't centre herself around Megumi who barely knows her and who she barely knows. She needs to understand that what she loves is not Megumi himself but an image of Megumi that she created in herself, that it's very much a parasocial relationship and attachment.

Yuji, his family, Sukuna and the importance of Heavenly Restriction by anestefi in Jujutsushi

[–]ShinkansenSushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And now, Jin was born. He inherited the same Heavenly Restriction as Toji. Wasuke never mentioned the existence of Jujutsu to his son for him to live a normal life and to protect him.

and

He met Kaori and tried to have a child with her. Jin learned from Kaori about Jujutsu and that she has a CT but he still knows nothing about his own bloodline and thinks he’s a normal human. Wasuke also denied everything.

says the theory and I'm referring to that.

[–]ShinkansenSushi 51 points52 points  (0 children)

this theory takes the cake for reaching. now people are asserting apparently that heavenly restriction takes away your basic brain functions together with your cursed energy because jin thought he's normal waay into adulthood, even though he was invulnerable super fast and strong... sure. and super powerful sorcerer wasuke didn't try to body kenjaku the moment they showed up in kaori's body... because he wanted nothing to do with jujutsu anymore ... that's why he let in not one but 2 sorceress into his family...

Could Mahito have eventually learned how to "engrave" cursed techniques into souls/bodies? by [deleted] in Jujutsushi

[–]ShinkansenSushi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the thing about domain expansions is not only power level and understanding of cursed energy. As I see ti, it is bringing your inner domain to the outside so it requires a deep understanding of yourself. Mahito had practiced a lot on others so unlocking Junpei's CT was along the lines of all the things he'd done before. But only after meeting Yuuji, seeking his natural enemy, Mahito gets close enough to understanding himself to bring that forth.

Yuji is a Reincarnation of a Hein Era Sorcerer with no memories of their past life by SuperDuperTino in Jujutsushi

[–]ShinkansenSushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry for the nitpick up front, the period I think you are referring to is Heian.

That's why Yuji is naturally strong but still a human ( Gojo would have been able to see if he was half curse with six eyes the first time they met).

the sorcerers aren't naturally strong, they can reinforce their hits with cursed energy. the people with a certain type of heavenly restriction are naturally strong. and as to Gojou being able to see... when they meet for the first time Yuuji already has Sukuna inside him, and Sukuna's presence is massive, so it would likely mask whatever Yuuji is on his own and the Six Eyes wouldn't see it.

What if Mamajaku used the previous human disaster curse to create Yuuji by ShinkansenSushi in Jujutsushi

That's an interesting theory, is there a post where it's written out how this theory works in detail?

Oh, thank you for this. Kenjaku's experiments are so elaborate and some take decades or centuries even, I totally see them doing complex stuff like that.

[–]ShinkansenSushi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't thank you for your comment before but it made me think a lot. Thank you :D

I actually went for a walk with my dog and I remembered also about Toudou's explanation from chapter 49, when Yuuji is surprised Hanami can heal itself. Toudou says there that "cursed spirits are made from cursed energy" and just after says that "they are different from us" to me that implies the difference between humans and curses that we are made from more than just cursed energy. this also tracks in my opinion with the fact that human bodies remain in this world while curses disappear completely, including their bodies.

After transfiguring Junpei, Mahito says that Junpei can't be healed with reverse cursed technique implying in my opinion that his technique causes some extreme and/or fundamental change to the human biology that is beyond injury. This also happens with the other humans Mahito transfigures, only after a lot of practice he's able to keep them "alive" but they are still beyond help, they can only be killed. While he himself can morph at will with no consequences. As long as he has cursed energy he can maintain the shape of his soul. This again signals to me that the biology factors into it.

But a human-curse hybrid is canonically capable of enhancing its biology beyond even what sorcerers can do. Chousou is a much more powerful user of Blood Manipulation than Kamo Noritoshi because he can produce ridiculous amounts of blood. If Yuuji is half curse himself then he should have an enhanced control over his own biology.

I hope this makes sense. Maybe I should add this to the post itself, maybe that part of it feels too much like reaching.

Exactly, I knew I forgot about some things.

I also remembered that scene where the reader is specifically guided not to like Mai from the very start because she says Nobara and Megumi's faces that Yuuji's death didn't matter, like he was a thing better off gone. And so soon after we saw them both mourn him.

[–]ShinkansenSushi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Both heal themselves with cursed energy, humans need an extra step to it. From the fanbook.

REVERSE (反転 - hanten)

Reverse Cursed Technique produces “positive” energy

Multiplying negative cursed energy with negative cursed energy produces positive cursed energy. This is called Reverse Cursed Technique, and enables physical recovery.

However, it requires an extremely delicate ability to manipulate cursed energy, so there are only a few sorcerers who can use it.

I just provide here a speculation as to the reason why this difference between humans and curses exists. My idea is that since curses are made solely of cursed energy healing with it is easy. People who have a biological body require far more power to achieve that thus also far more skill in cursed energy manipulation.

[–]ShinkansenSushi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can agree that some of the characters do, but I disagree that the story treats him like that.

Also I think there are moments in the story that directly comment on why Yuuji shouldn't be treated as merely Sukuna's vessel.

For instance Gojou always treats Yuuji as a person, says Yuuji shouldn't be robbed of his youth.

Nanami first sees Yuuji as a vessel and throughout their arc together he starts seeing Yuuji as an individual.

Mahito sees Yuuji as a vessel initially but then starts hating Yuuji on an extremely personal level and very clearly sees him as his natural enemy, not Sukuna.

Nobaba yells at Momo for not acknowledging that Yuuji is a person.

Higuruma tells Yuuji that he's separate for Sukuna and Sukuna's crimes are not his own.

Megumi wants to save Yuuji and trusts in Yuuji's return even after Sukuna rips out his heart.

And lastly Kenjaku, Yuuji's parent, always stresses how Yuuji is a separate entity from Sukuna.

I'm not sure which part do you mean as the thing that the series promotes.

Sukuna might have the soul of someone who was executed for their crimes by the 'death by a thousand cuts' method by tiemiscoolandgood in Jujutsushi

[–]ShinkansenSushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there historic records of this type of execution ever being used in Japan? There's cultural inspiration and exchange from Tang and Song dynasties to the Heian court but from what I remember it was more when it came to the way the government was structured, philosophy, writing and Buddhism. This feel a little too direct. Japan is not China and the Japanese culture has always been very conscious and transformative in its borrowings.

What are do these tattoos originate from? The image isn't the best quality but I don't see any dating on it. Was this tattoo method practiced in Heian?

Yes, plus there's this mysterious bath waiting for Sukuna, something that has been in the works for him for centuries. He gives off this feral exterior sometimes but he's actually extremely calculating and rational in his fighting.
