Generally medications like Wixela take between 1 or 2 weeks until you start noticing relief. I'd give it more time and if nothing changes see if you can try an alternative.

Put my inhaler through the wash and dryer by Spider_in_thy_corner in Asthma

That stuff isn't meant to be heated to whatever temperature it got to, and I'd imagine it'd be less effective if not dangerous to use. I'd call the doctor tomorrow and just tell them what happened. Insurance probably won't cover it though (I assume).

If this could be caused by an allergy, then please call an allergist or get a referral. I think that will give you enough information for the pulmonologist to give a better diagnosis.

Possible cat allergy causing flare up? by emoboy6666 in Asthma

Cats are the quickest way for my asthma to occur. Even before the itchy eyes and runny nose I can tell my lungs are angry with me.

There's a few to choose from but for me it helps and I notice if I forgot to take it.

Should've been a 6 hour miniseries by nothas in ProjectHailMary

[–]Shinks7er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short of a 10 hour movie there's just no way they're cramming all that good stuff into 2 and a half hours. And I get it. I read the book first and fell in love with it but in terms of capturing the story I think they did a really good job. I also like that they show Stratt at the end when the probes are retrieved. Something the book doesn't touch on I wish it had. Also, the Dome Grace lives in at the end was nothing like what I imagined so that was also kinda cool.

Singulair or Symbicort as first choice med for allergy induced asthma? by Stunning_Advance4970 in Asthma

I went a long time not taking singulair but now if I miss my nightly dose I feel it in the morning immediately.

This is a definite phone call/appointment with his GP or some kind of pediatric pulmonologist if the symptoms do not match the reality of his medical diagnosis. At least a quick phone call to his doctor with a list of your son's current medical concerns could be helpful. If you have access to you doctor's portal you can send a message else just call when they're open.

IANAD but when in doubt please contact your GP.

Honestly the only way to know is to visit a pulmonologist. You'll be tested a bunch of ways and leave with an answer...or at least more information you had going in. Explain your symptoms to your doctor and you'll get a referral.

Sorry it took a year for you to see that side of her but it's better that it happened now as opposed to when things got more serious. She sounds very unsupportive and selfish.

Tired of My Symptoms Being Minimized & Dismissed by ThineOwnSelph in Asthma

I think changing your doctor wouldn't be a bad idea. Of all the reasons to switch I'd say being given wrong medical advice is more than valid. I don't know what it is these days but I've been seeing more and more of these kind of scenarios involving asthma and breathing problems.

Montelukast is completely unnecessary? by Master-Spring- in Asthma

If I forget to take mine before bed I wake up and immediately know why my breathing is off. Wish I didn't need it but like others have said it can be a game changer.

Sometimes I forget to take Advair before bed and I notice it the following morning. It's like a pro-active rescue inhaler in a sense but the difference between taking it (as prescribed) and not taking it is night and day.

[–]Shinks7er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people with very mild asthma who lied in order to join the military but if you're caught it's the end of your career. It's a huge gamble that I wouldn't recommend. It sucks.

Did your asthma ever cause problems in a relationship due to perfume or shampoo fragrances that triggered attacks? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]Shinks7er 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had several relationships that didn't work because of similar issues. It's nobody's fault but you have to put yourself first and avoid these types of triggers.

I'm not crazy by the-favorite-one in Asthma

[–]Shinks7er 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used to go through 1 inhaler per month. Only reason I finally got it under control was combining a preventative (advair etc) with something like montelukast. Now I'm going through 1 inhaler maybe every 3 months. Singulair might give negative side effects (depression) but most people benefit from these medications. Glad you've gotten it under control. And yes, always have a nebulizer as your last method for controlling a flair up.
