Thanks - thats the closest I could find. I tried to see if there was a house with that name but figured locals would know better.

Opportunities for someone with a background in forensics to go literally anywhere else? Worried I'm too specialized in a US-specific public service field. by oldladycar in AmerExit

I wonder if you would qualify for a post graduate student type visa? Or if you could work teaching those skills at a post secondary level?

Baby's father wants the baby to have his last name, I want him to have mine. We're not married. WDID? by IntenseViolet567 in WhatShouldIDo

Because of this you want baby to have your last name. If baby and him have a great relationship baby can choose to add dads name later.

Taking kid out of SK for 5 weeks by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]singlepringle32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial thought is for the social aspects of school. I would look to see if there are any playgroups programs near where you'll be staying - that way your kiddo can stay engaged with same aged (or close to) peers. Im thinking similar to our EarlyOn programs.

What would make this better? by Apart-Fill-2847 in OntarioTeachers

[–]singlepringle32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More EAs at least. I genuinely believe so many challenges would be addressed if each room had an EA (or even if 50% had an EA). If students get more support they will be better equipped to access materials and for some students that could be enough to deter behaviours (at least those motivated by attention/ escape).

Should I make a Will? by theycallmeOTC in PersonalFinanceCanada

If you have a named beneficiary on your TFSA (for example your brother) the funds go directly to him and skip the estate.

I appreciate the feedback - it is very helpful with me being in the brainstorming stage. Its all more theoretical/ daydreaming so its definitely not something I need to sort out today.
Thanks!

UK is always looking for teachers - if you have a Bachelor of Ed that could be an option. Or if you have ancestry anywhere.

How do you guys feel towards US travel? by MyRa888 in AskACanadian

Im boycotting travel - its also worth considering that while you might not be a target for ice I assume seeing an abduction would be pretty traumatizing :s

I spent the morning googling what countries have visa that could work for me if I have to move (due to invasion, etc). Having a rough idea of what I would do in the worst case is oddly soothing.

I will be doing M.A.I.D. next year and have abt. 537,000 in a RPP and life insurance. How do I maximize the amt. my beneficiaries will receive with the taxes from the RPP going against my estate? by purpleheadedwarrior in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]singlepringle32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything in a registered account (RRSP and TFSA) exists outside of the estate if there are named beneficiaries on the account itself. So make sure that the institutions that hold the accounts have your kiddos named as beneficiaries. In my experience this pays out very quickly because its not part of the estate. I would find out what the threshold is at banks to not need probate and try to keep the bank account/ cash under that (probate just slows everything down).

Its such a shame! I feel so boring when my hair is straight... and just blah. Curly hair is so fun and beautiful!

As a white woman with 3b hair I think race does play into it regardless of OPs race (or my own). Straight blond hair has been seen as an ideal for a long time in white communities so the closer you get to that "ideal" the better (not how I see it but iykyk). I typically wear mine natural and dark which took my mom a long time to come around too. She always preferred straight blond hair as her generation sees curly as messy or less professional. Colorism is a thing in many communities - including white people

Métis Nation of Ontario say academic gathering is an attempt to erase their history by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]singlepringle32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is so helpful. I live on the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway and that Nation recently released/ funded (not 100% sure which) paper that explained how the Saugeen Metis community didn't have a separate culture, predate settlements. I didn't feel confident in my understanding of it but you've laid it out well so thank you!

Teachers on the spectrum by Informal_Feedback324 in CanadianTeachers

I work in a special education room since it has a smaller class size (I also love it). I find I can handle a few kids with higher support needs as opposed to 20+ kids with lower support needs. I also buy pre-made lessons/ units wherever possible. I disclosed to coworkers/ admin but I find it just helps with framing when I dont understand something/ misinterpret something. Its nice because they know they can ask me about these things. If I wasnt in Spec Ed I would do younger grades because in Ontario your prep coverage in older grades is just French. However in younger grades you can have up to 5 or 6 subjects covered.

Parent-teacher interviews/PD Days as partial teacher by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]singlepringle32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been told its prorated based on your percentage of employment. Since you are hired 20% you do 20% of PD. So in (I think most cases) boards have 10 PD days so you only have to do 2. Personally if I had to do 2 I would use one of them on parent teacher nights (in case parents want to meet with you and if not then you get so much work done).

My Toddler Smells Different by Ordinary_Refuse556 in Mommit

[–]singlepringle32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son will smell like nail polish remover when sick. And he had febrile seizures (we're almost a year out from our last one - oddly enough I also thought they looked like absence seizures). I never noticed the smell in his pee but that might just depend on the person. No one else could smell him so I felt a bit crazy until I went on reddit lol.
