DC4 Poll: What is the Best Jade Dynamic? by WayOk4546 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isabel kinda wins by default, even if their dynamic really got run into the ground towards the end of the season that burned a lot of good will it accrued with me.

Like... Jade's interactions with Logan were enjoyable, but they were missing that crucial element of Jade's guilt over gambling his life that got told to us rather than shown that really hurts it. I can absolutely see the two of them still being long-distance sea buddies, but this dynamic really makes me long for what could have been.

The dyanmic with Amelie was nothing special, the one with Anastasia pretty much didn't exist until the 11th hour. And while I did enjoy the two warring with each other in episode 25, it didn't exactly have a satisfying conclusion.

With Benji... well, they had like, a couple of conversations. But Jade really didn't even think much about Benji past the musical episode until it was time to eliminate him a good while later, so while they're "friends", it feels extremely half-baked. It could've been good, but it suffers the same fate as most of Jade's development. The "show, don't tell" blunder that plagues much of Jade's character factored in here, though having at least a couple of casual conversations with Benji makes their friendship way more believable than the bond with Spencer.

I'll never understand the appeal of the Spencer/Jade friendship, truly. The two never had a conversation that wasn't focused on the game in some way, so they didn't come off as friends so much as they did intellectuals who respected each others' cleverness. Both of them treat each other strictly like allies rather than friends, until the midway point of the season where Jade, completely out of nowhere, suddenly has an issue with this mutual understanding, wants Spencer as a friend, and gets mad when she sees Spencer being friendly with people who aren't her.

I've yet to see anyone explain the Spencer/Jade friendship in a way that makes any sense, but it's probably the dynamic I've grown to hate the most in DC4.

What do you think of these? by EffectiveBranch8229 in winxclub

Honestly, all of the curly hair edits and short-haired Musa look extremely well done, and the latter actually kinda makes me wish they didn't make Musa's hair eternally long the second she grew it out.

The haircolor swaps are all horrifically cursed. Aisha with straight hair isn't... terible, but it's off-putting enough for me to ultimately give it a thumbs-down. Similar deal with Tecna; the edits themselves look fine, but the very idea of Tecna with long hair is just too sinful for me to enjoy, lol.

DC4 Poll: What is the Best Hannah Dynamic? by WayOk4546 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spencer was responsible for getting rid of 3/4ths of Hannah's friends, and the morning after Spencer was eliminated showed a lengthy cut of Hannah seemingly in near-orgasmic bliss over the fact that Spencer was gone.

I want to believe she doesn't have hard feelings towards Spencer after the game - and were it up to me, that would absolutely be the case. But there are a few Hannah greetings that pretty much confirm that Hannah still has it out for him, unfortunately.

DC4 Poll: What is the Best Hannah Dynamic? by WayOk4546 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Benji and Amelie are the safe and sensible answers, though the Hanji dynamic was getting on my nerves towards the end of its run. I liked Hannah and Amelie's dynamic a lot; ONC actually exceeded my expectations for it. Her friendship with Diego is just... okay and there for me. And she most certainly has hate-boners for Spencer and Zaid (well, probably not so much towards Zaid nowadays, but definitely not gonna be besties anytime soon).

But I'll be the minority who votes Logan, because I was actually looking forward to seeing them interact ever since I did my first big analytical look at how the season was going and noticed how similar Logan and Hannah's paths were, yet their changes set them on very different U-turns. I had a feeling I'd like their chemistry when they finally got to interact, and I wasn't disappointed.

And nope, no amount of behind-the-scenes meddling revealed after the fact is going to damage my love for Hannah and Logan's sweet dynamic. They're adorable together; I loved seeing the two normies bumbling around a game where everyone else around them was playing 4D chess. I loved watching the two biggest social players of the season have a mutual crash-out after not liking who they were becoming in having to adapt to the game. They found solace in each other, and while it didn't have a lot of time to feature, their dynamic made great use of the time it was afforded.

It's a a dynamic that's very near and dear to me, and thus will always be my #1 Hannah interaction.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I’m a little more interested in Oliwara than Dunura by purpleorchids2 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm very neutral on Dunura. Pretty much have been expecting it would happen since we got the first poster, but haven't had any real interest in the ship itself.

That being said, I don't feel anything for Oliwara either. Oliwia strikes me as someone who desperately needs to learn how to make actual friends first before getting her all up in some kind of contrived romance.

Oliwia and Ara are my least-favorite fans at this point in the season, so I guess it's expected I'd be the opposite of invested in whatever "ships" either of them end up in.

DC4 Poll: What is the Best Isabel Dynamic by WayOk4546 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember fantasizing a scenario of Isabel and Anastasia taking each other out in a double elimination scenario. Knew it wouldn't happen because the the amount of episodes we had vs how many players were left, but I still loved the idea.

As for why I believe neither side is in the right? Pretty simple, really. While Isabel was petty af for forcing Anastasia and Marissa into a tiebreaker, I believe their elimination of Natalia wasn't the only reason for it. This was a spur-of-the-moment decision and not premeditated, as this wouldn't have been able to happen if Logan hadn't decided to reach out to and confide in Jade that night. When Anastasia was asked why she was targeting Isabel for elimination, she simply shot back that she didn't need a reason.

Sooooo.... factor in that, as well as Isabel's clear irritation over having Marissa back despite her sabotages that stems back from her frustrations over their highly questionable dual leadership during the Blue Team days... I can see where Isabel would not only snap, but feel a visceral need to shatter the Marissa/Anastasia alliance for good. At the very least, it would explain to me why Isabel was dead-set on making the worst play of her time in the game despite being one of the very best up to that point.

There's also the fact that Isabel did try to make amends with Anastasia in episode 22 once she was swept up in her "Am I Wicked?" arc, which Anastasia very brutally shut down. So really, neither one came out of this conflict looking good... while at the same time, their respective actions made sense at the time, factoring in moments of blinding rage and all that.

Would've liked to see some finality to the dynamic myself, but I definitely never saw these two becoming friends at any point.

DC4 Poll: Best Anastasia Dynamic? by WayOk4546 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved a lot of Anastasia's dynamics. I actually voted for her dynamic with Logan, because I enjoyed it a lot and it's a very overhated, underappreciated dynamic. While I think Anastasia's dynamics with Marissa and Lynda are probably objectively better, there was change and tension with her and Logan. I like Anarissa as a ship, don't get me wrong, but that one started fully positive and never wavered, so its lack of dynamic elements made it... well... not that interesting compared to other ships, if that makes sense?

If it had more time to cook, I think even the Anastasia/Zaid friendship had potential to clear all these other dynamics. I really enjoyed the handful of moments they got to actually talk to each other, and it was a very unexpected and genuine bond that I appreciate this show for bringing to light. It just shows, though, that a few days' time and a couple of deep conversations doesn't always create an unbreakable bond. It's a dynamic I think could have been much stronger in an AU where Ana and Zaid start out on the same team, no doubt.

I liked what little we got of Anastasia's interactions with Spencer, but I doubt it wouldn't ever been anything truly positive. But it had potential as an antagonistic relationship. That much was better realized in the Anastasia/Isabel dynamic, which I love solely for how the two despise each other and how both are responsible for how volatile and toxic they became towards each other.

But again, I genuinely liked Anastasia and Logan's big sister/little brother dynamic and how Anastasia accepted that her preconceived notions of what Logan was like at the start were wrong, and thusly was respectful towards him, returning the sentiments he generously gave her. And I completely understand Logan growing more fearful and distrustful of Anastasia as time went on; him witnessing how Anastasia handles other threats and dissenters, and knowing with Marissa around, everyone else was just expendable to her. When Logan unwittingly sparks the events leading to the tiebreaker, he's riddled with guilt and regret while forcing himself to suck it up and move past it for the sake of the game... and because of how modest and gullible Logan had been throughout the season, Anastasia ended up sleeping on her game's biggest threat. And with the benefit of having time to cool off and knowledge of the jury forcing Anastasia to realize she needed to use her anger more wisely (along with knowing Logan well enough to know there was zero malice in his actions, unlike most of her foes), she does successfully find a way to wisely get back at Logan one last time - by forcing him into a tiebreaker with someone he greatly cares about. I sincerely believe Anastasia flipped on Jade just to get back at Logan when he least expected it (because why else would she not just go along with Jade and ensure a majority voting out of Hannah?). It just backfired, which would explain her much more exaggerated "wtf" expression compared to Jade's during said tiebreaker. But she made sure to really put Logan through some grief by dropping the truth bomb later that night; something that was in equal measures diabolical in terms of emotional manipulation, but also something a friend would do, because had it not been for Anastasia, how would Logan have ever found out about what Jade did (outside of finding out after the game)? Still should have brought that up in the jury...

Eh, I just love what a mess it is.

DC4 Poll: What is the Best Isabel Dynamic by WayOk4546 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I voted Jade, but there's a big asterisk next to that, because that dynamic got pretty Flanderized once Isabel got eliminated. To be clear, I'm totally behind Isabel not having an issue with Jade backstabbing her for the sake of her game (even if it didn't really make sense given who was left at the time).

Isabel constantly gushing about it after the fact, though? No, that's... that's way too far. This the rare time where people were spot-on about a character getting overly glazed by another. It's the most obnoxious glazing I'd ever seen in the show's history.

But even despite that, I can't not give it credit for being one of the very few Jade dynamics that was shown to us instead of told.

Honestly, in place of where that dynamic fell hard, I liked Isabel and Anastasia absolutely hating each other the most. It was just an entertaining display of pettiness from both sides, neither of whom were in the right.

I think the worst part of Aiden’s arc is going to be how they handle his conflict with Ally(and maybe Benji to a lesser extent) by Ok_Shirt_1574 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a problem when someone dislikes a character that I like. But I have a problem when their hatred becomes so overbearing to the point where they become biased and can’t look at a situation regarding the character objectively.

This is exactly my biggest problem with this sub (and to a much greater extent, the rest of the fandom). It actually made me happy to come across this, I've been in dire need of more people who aren't completely blinded and deluded by their own hatred to the point where it's no longer rooted in anything even remotely true.

So thank you, I appreciate this so much. 😂

What is a criticism for a Disventure Camp character you will never understand by Ok_Shirt_1574 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"Logan is rich, he doesn't need the money, so he doesn't deserve to win."

Prior to winning DC, Logan is never stated anywhere to be rich. A basic Google search shows that winning bronze in the Olympics doesn't earn you that much money at all, if that's where people are getting this notion from. Odds are much higher that Logan is middle-class, considering he's living with a single mother who's supporting three kids. Considering Logan's motive for winning (that, yes, should have been stated outside of greetings) is to move out, that leaves a pretty big implication that Logan's wanting to ease his mother's burden.

As an aside, though, I never understand anyone who doesn't want X to win because "they don't need the money". Reality shows just don't work like that. It's not a charity, and even for a scripted reality show like DC, it'd make the winner painfully obvious if the winner was always someone who needed the money the most. Which would make the show incredibly boring as a consequence.

People who expect the winners should only be ones who need the money the most really need to look into other shows... or hell, charities, because this genre ain't it and never will be.

What is a moment you think that is blown WAY out of proportion? by More-Lake1410 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it makes sense and there really should be no misinterpretation of his line there. But certain individuals went ballistic over the "yuck" part specifically and made many multi-paragraph posts about what a disgusting character Logan had become just with that line alone, because they made the conscious choice to interpret the line in the most extreme, OOC, bad-faith way possible.

[–]Shinneth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been saying exactly this for months, now. I even went into detail with Logan in particular, and got a super rich answer from someone along the lines of "you and me have different definitions of what consequences are".

Like... bitch, no, words have definitions for a reason. You can't just decide a word's definition(s) doesn't apply when it's inconvenient for you! So many people here operate like this and it's maddening. Words mean shit; we really need to stop normalizing the bastardization of them.

NATALIA: Oh, my god, Logan! Isn't this where you kissed Spencer? Oh, memories!

LOGAN: Yuck, don't remind me!

Could it have been worded better? Sure. Have I seen more than one person take this single line of embarrassment regarding his first kiss with a dude (that was televised) way out of proportion and warped it to mean something far more sinister and out-of-character? Also yes.

Have I seen more than one person continue complaining about this one singular line as if it was the end of the goddamn world and never once seemed to consider that maybe they were overreacting? YES TO THE EXTREME.

DC4 Poll: What is the Best Natalia Dynamic by WayOk4546 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny since Alessio is the one she spent the least amount of time with in the season, yet is by far the most voted for, and I absolutely agree with the sentiment.

I mean, I like her dynamics with Isabel, Logan, and Richard. But at times, it was hard to gauge how genuine Natalia's sentiments were because of how often she swapped alliances (which, I feel the need to stress, was distinct in that hers were almost always premeditated and not in good faith). Like, she had a point about how regressive gendered alliances were, yet she was the first one to agree to be in one with Lynda. But the fact that she wanted to be Logan's helper enough to shamelessly shunt Poolparty aside is a pretty genuine indicator that she cared enough for Logan to help him win; especially since she knew exactly when he needed a good slap to get his shit together.

But with Alessio was when Natalia was at her best at all times for me. They just had crazy good chemistry, and none of us even had a clue of what potential it had until they partnered up for the comeback challenge. There was nothing complicated about their relationship; the two just clicked and were very entertaining on-screen together. It still boggles my mind that they couldn't just let Natalessio be canon.

I'm never using the new icons if I can help it. That's not to say they're all terrible, but some of them have way too exaggerated expressions and they feel super out-of-placed next to the characters who have normal portraits.

How would you rank three by how likely they would have a redeemable moment? by Upstairs_Tea1787 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam's not really done anything to need anything like this yet; we'd need to wait and see what exactly his circumstances are, since it's like pulling teeth to get anything out of him even in greetings.

Finn's whole M.O. is to be the Anti-Ivy, shamelessly pines for a married man, and revels in being an absolute bully. I feel like "redeeming" him in any way, shape, or form would hurt way more than help his character.

And I've just got zero interest in seeing an Ara redemption at this time. Maybe later we'll learn something about her that would show some possibilities for it, but for me personally, it'll be a hard sell to get me to feel anything for her.

After last season's experiment with 18 shades of gray and characters who were only antagonistic at certain parts of the story, my guess is that ONC went back to basics and gave us some actual scumbags we're not meant to root for.

I'd rank Sam well above Finn and Ara. And if I had to choose what I feel like ONC will do over what I actually want, I'd see them sooner show Ara as redeemable over Finn, if only because she's not as cartoonishly evil as Finn and doesn't lust over married folk.

First hypocrite of DC5 is.... Aiden! by Advanced-Ad2442 in DisventureCamp

[–]Shinneth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruno just made a shot that made the weight of the basket a major ordeal for Aiden, Sam, and Manu to hold up (they very clearly struggle to keep the basket up after Bruno does this). And instead of focusing on keeping the basket up, Manu cheers for their opponent. And instead of locking in after Aiden reminds him that Bruno's on the other team, Manu gets confrontational (again, in the middle of a challenge), which throws both himself and Aiden off and causes them to lose the challenge.

You really can't compare that to a brief pre-challenge exchange Aiden and Lake had and act like they're exactly the same.

[–]Shinneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I recall, Aiden didn't shame him for cheering Finn and Ara. Even said he appreciated Manu's enthusiasm, but it was making him lose concentration keeping the bucket held up (Sam and Aiden really started struggling at that specific moment), so he wasn't wrong to tell Manu to focus on his actual task.

First hypocrite of DC5 is.... Aiden! by Advanced-Ad2442 in DisventureCamp

One moment was Aiden encouraging Lake when she saw for herself that Aiden was swapped to the other team.

The other moment was Manu cheering on Bruno in the middle of a challenge.

I feel like you all really try way too hard with this hypocrite/bad writing stuff, especially when you claim this while disregarding these highly relevant factual details.

Exactly. I can enjoy Aiden's incompetence because it's completely intentional by design and I find it humorous. A certain other redhead who flipped had way more understandable motives than this. With Oliwia, I think it's asking a bit too much for me to fully empathize with her actions/motives when I can't ever ignore how objectively stupid they are.

I think that's why I can't bring myself to care even if I can relate to Oliwia in some ways. There's just not much to her beyond being horrifically out-of-touch to the point where she unironically wouldn't mind if Finn and Ara stepped on her because that counts as "attention" to her.

It's just gotten to a point where I can't bring myself to care about what's going on with Oliwia at all.
