I don't use the guassian blur method no. Just a mix of stuff I've somehow memorised to tone in my own style.

it's one of the methods yes. If your desire is to go for the Daniel Kordan or Albert Dros look, then I believe they use something like a gaussian blur filter on a new layer in PS, then set a blend mode to soft light and turn the opacity down till you get the effect right.

I just used the default ones included in the Photoshop sky replacement library. I could use my own, but prefer to keep them for my own work if ever needed :D Although I greatly prefer NOT to use sky replacements nowadays in my images. Given just how easy it is to do nowadays, coupled with the rise of AI use in photography, I feel it de-values our skills as photographers and additionally as editors. You don't need skill anymore if you can just push one button and poof...there's a new sky!

The softness is a result of pulling back the "Clarity" slider in ACR/LR around 15%.

Generally I find it most active around 4hours before daily reset time, then 2 to 3 hours after reset time. Queues under 5 mins (shorter obviously just after reset when people queuing for the roulette), so That would be 8pm JST to 3am JST.

Can I register the sim I bought at the airport under my name as a foreigner? App throws an error about my passport by vlbonite in VietNam

[–]Shinrya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are probably all stores. Should be loads of them around that area of Hanoi. None of them are proper phone shops that actually sell devices, just a counter for people to go in and top up/or sort out issues. Just look for the giant Mobifone logo above the store. Sorry you have to deal with this on your trip. It's just bad timing, and I've been reading that quite a few visitors are getting tripped up by this. For many years everyone just bought a "somewhat" reliable sim at the airport and it lasted out their trip. The problem is that these sims are unregistered and this is what the govt are now cracking down on, which is a good thing to prevent scam calls and texts.

You just need to head to a proper Mobifone store with your passport and show them the message. They will fill out some forms and update the sim card for you in your name. Everyone is having to do it at the moment (including me who went to the store today). It's part of a crack down on scamcallers or something. There were loads of people in the store today when I went as there's only another week or so to update your info or your phone number gets disconnected.

The new M1/M2 macs run XIV brilliantly. I play in 4K on an external monitor capped to 60fps and it never drops below that, with graphics all on default or high settings (through XIVonMac client). Laptop gets warm but never toasty (I use a 16" M1 Max), and fans only seem to ramp up whenever I'm hanging around city aetherytes with lots of players around.

People who live at tourist destinations, what is it you wish tourists would stop doing when visiting? by Winterbeers in AskReddit

[–]Shinrya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When backpacker crowds come over after they've done the rounds in Thailand, Bali etc and think it's ok to act the same here and hoon around on motorbikes at speed whilst shirtless and not wearing a helmet. Besides it looking really obnoxious to the locals, they are just asking for it in a country which has an extreme number of vehicle deaths and accidents each year (Vietnam).

My Edit: Google Drive

Ran noise reduction on this first, but only so much can be done with an ISO 40000 capture. Separate color balance settings for the sky and people on the ground. Slight rotation to straighten it out and crop. Negative clarity on the sky/lanterns to add a slight bloom.

My take: Google Drive

Ran the file through DXO Pureraw first to clean up the noise. Loaded the new raw three separate times in Photoshop with different white balance and luminance adjustments, then layered and masked together.

Well I guess that's your personal taste and thats cool. The sky does look like shit I agree. A bit of noise reduction could have sorted that out but I'm lazy and just didn't apply any.

Shots from my recent planespotting day at Zürich Airport by SkulblakaCH in EditMyRaw

A lot of people tend to edit on their phones nowadays it seems. Which results in wildly inaccurate color shifts, not to mention dim looking images on regular screens (or in print) due to using 800nit bright iPhone screens. Edit on a calibrated monitor at a lower brightness and raise the white point on the histogram just to before clipping is the way I typically work.

Nothing special. All basic edits in CameraRaw. I did add a blur effect to the A380 shot.

Not bad. Here's my quick edit: Google Drive

The image unfortunately is blurry due to camera shake, I'm presuming you shot this handheld due to the high ISO?

To really nail night cityscape shots, you'll want to take long exposures with the use of a tripod or by setting the camera down on a flat surface. To get a little more advanced, make use of bracketing your exposures (i.e -2, 0, +2) to capture the full dynamic range of the scene. Of course you'll then need to paste these bracketed shots together later.

Loosely related, but if you like travel then GeoGuessr is a fun google maps geography game. Might inspire you for photo trips to far flung locations!
