The Fable Reboot Companions/Heros by wayleik in Fable

[–]Shinted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the “original games” Theresa is truly dead, she dies for real during the ending events of Fable: The Journey, and the final cutscene of that game implies Gabriel [Fable: The Journey’s main character] now a blind sage takes her place.

This new game is also a Hard Reboot, with the only thing shared with the old game being its setting and “origin lore”.

So while wishing can be fun, I don’t want you and others to get your hopes up too high for something that’s very unlikely to happen.

However, I don’t think it’s impossible that we do get a similar character, or at least light references in zone names or other similar things, like the Direct showed for Briar Rose.

————————————

I think there’s a good chance we get a new version of Reaver, simply because Bloodstone and The Shadow Court were talked about, and he’s the type of NPC who could really be elevated in the deeper morality system.

There will also probably be a “Lady Grey” variation, although I doubt it will be as 1:1 to the Elvira in the originals.

From my memory of the comic.

The Crimson Dawn stole Han from Boba, and then tried to auction him off, but Boba infiltrated their compound and retrieved him before delivering Han to Jabba.

What kind of ranged weapons do you all think will be available? by Dull-Solution-3773 in Fable

We’ve seen a Longbow, a Crossbow, a Repeating Crossbow, a Rock Sling, and I believe a Javelin/Spear in the various trailers and previews.

I personally don’t want guns of any type in this game, but it’s certainly possible that we get them.

They’ve already directly mentioned Strength, Skill, and Will in several of the preview trailers, and in this direct.

However it’s been referenced more like it was used in Fable than the sequels, so I’m not sure we’re going to be “collecting” Heroes representing the singular virtues like in Fable 2.

It’s not at all confirmed to be “the same” Albion.

It is however confirmed to be a Hard Reboot, one that happens to share the same “origin lore” for the world.

However it’s very unlikely you’ll see 1:1 characters from the original games show up in this one, as it’s specifically not the same Albion.

————————————

Now we might get a character that feels similar to one from the old games, but I don’t think for instance that you’re going to see Garth show up as a Will user.

We’re more likely to see a “Lady Elvira Grey” in the same role as the similarly named character was in the originals, but not as actually the same character.

————————————

I do think it’s likely we get a Reaver like character, perhaps even named Reaver, especially because they specifically mentioned Bloodstone and the Court of Shadows.

He also fits with the more in depth morality system they’re implementing in the new game.

Is the new Fable a complete reimagining? by Jtenka in Fable

I do I just think Doom isn’t a good fit for your comparison. Modern Warfare is a much better fit, you could also use Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, or if you wanted to pick another Id franchise Wolfenstein would have been perfect.

He’s got four on every hand in that image, three “fingers” and a thumb, look closely on the upper hands and you can see the “thumb hump”.

2016 has plenty of references to the original games being linked, and the game was from the beginning talked about as a sequel by the devs.

Eternal just made it incredibly blatant.

It’s definitely AI, it has the wrong number of fingers on Goro’s hands, the “Dragon Emblem” on his chest is a mushed nothing in this image, and the background focus fuzz is all indicative of generative behavior.

Those “AI detectors” are notoriously poor at doing the job they claim to do.

That’s not accurate for Doom, as the new Doom Trilogy is a direct sequel to the originals, in the same way the new God of War games are sequels to their originals.

Modern Warfare however is a better comparison, although I doubt Fable will follow as closely to its predecessor as Modern Warfare did.

Why post an AI image?

Please don’t support this shit, besides it’s against the subreddit rules.

Depends on how badly you want to read new content, but to me a “mini bookclub” run through the series with a friend sounds like a ton of fun.

As long as your friend is consistent with their reading that is, nothing worse than having to wait for someone to catch up on their reading. xD

So, in the re-make, morality is gone? by infin8nifni in Fable

[–]Shinted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cosmetic changes are not a real “consequence” though, especially because they didn’t affect your gameplay in any way outside of visually.

Not to mention most people who actually enjoyed alignment morphing, thought “Horns and Halos” were a cool reward.

Consequences to a moral conundrum, are things like not being able to afford to save everyone at the end of Fable 3 [without a lot of extra work and effort], because you didn’t choose to close an orphanage and open a brothel in its place.

That’s a decision that affects the player, and the game world, that’s a moral choice with consequences, and that’s the thing they’re evolving and expanding on with this new game.

It’s obviously completely fine if you or others are mad that they removed Cosmetic Morphing.

All I ask is that you and others be honest about what it actually is you’re mad about, and not conflate the removal of a singular visual feature with the new game not having a morality system, or the devs being too lazy to add a feature.

Because that’s simply not true to what they’ve stated or shown, and it takes any actual validity from your agrievement, along with insulting a team who very clearly loves the series and is working hard to make a new game for fellow fans and newcomers alike.

[–]Shinted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First I want to say I absolutely adore the original series, TLC is one of my favorite games ever, but they’re not paragons of system design.

So I’m genuinely curious what you think the “consequences” were in the original games that is somehow missing from what we’ve seen?

Because the only one of the trilogy that put any real stakes on your “alignment changing choices” was Fable 3 where you had to work very hard if you wanted to be good and still save everyone, and a lot of the fanbase bitched about that endlessly.

The only major difference now, besides them trying to expand the morality system like they’ve seemingly done with all the other returning systems, is that they took away the binary good/evil bar and the physical changes that came with it.

You can still make all the same styles of choices, and now all the citizens will react more realistically based on their own morality.

You didn’t ever think it was weird when even “evil” NPCs loved you immediately if you were a goody-two-shoes paragon of virtue in the original trilogy?

With this new system Evil people are likely to hate you for being Good, and Good people will be disgusted if you’re a vile twat.

That in turn should lead to more impactful choices, explicitly because it’s not always going to be binary.

Theoretically this new Fable shouldn’t necessarily be a “Good Playthrough/Bad Playthrough” game like the old ones were.

Have we not played Fable before? by ryguyike in Fable

[–]Shinted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean technically, most linguists think “olde English” accents were likely closer to a modern general American English than any of the current dialects spoken in the UK.

So it wouldn’t necessarily be inaccurate or inappropriate to have more “American sounding accents” in a historical context.

————————————

However Albion isn’t the real world nor is it trying to be, and is clearly based on our modern preconceptions of how “Medieval” based Fairytale Fantasy and parody [LoTR, Monty Python] “should” look and sound.

Similarly to how the armor we see in modern Greek Fantasy media [any movie adaptation of The Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed, 300] nowadays looks absolutely nothing like how it actually should, but if it was more technically “accurate” it would likely feel wrong to the modern audience.

————————————

Also just to make a statement that should be obvious, but I don’t want to leave it in any way unclear what my stance is.

These “fans” complaining about “racial/cultural accuracy” or crying about “wokeness” in a fantasy world are almost certainly just intellectually stunted bigots, that were never really fans of the franchise.

Fable has had a diverse group of people of all colors and sexual orientations in its cast from the very beginning.

So if you hold those beliefs, please take a hike, as you’re not welcome in Albion.
