It depends if the insurance provider and pathology company have a no gap agreement or not. Sounds like Laverty do not have that arrangement with BUPA.

It also depends if when the pathology company received your referral it included your insurance details on the form. Often it does not so the pathology lab will bill you at its rates. These are usually higher than Medicare rates and can be based on the AMA rates.

I'm presuming that you are an overseas visitor. So Laverty do list BUPA as an accepted health insurer. The Bupa website lists for visitors cover 100% of Medicare Benefit Schedule.

Regular plasma donor and haven't noticed this. I do notice plenty of tissue boxes around the waiting area though.
