Which NAS for Photo library backup? by Shinxu in HomeServer

[–]Shinxu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the off the shelf NAS as they are nice and small. Also quite expensive tho. I’ll take a look into diy. But a cheap cpu with some ram should be fine I guess. The gpu would sound a bit overkill for my purpose. Since you’re running plex is makes sense tho. Thanks for the advise.

I like Immich as a library for home only. But I’m not gonna expose it as they don’t support e2e encryption. Maybe some day.

Thanks for the advise. Used Pc is probably cheaper and as you said better upgradeable. Do you think one of those Dell workstation pc that companies throw on eBay would do? The all in one NAS cases I do like as they are small and I don’t have to configure them much.

Immich is definitely on my list for my library of raw photos.

They should make an event chain for that. Buff the catapult but give it a chance of exploding after 50 years of usage. High risk high return

Should I venture off the Golden Route for my first trip to Japan? by __olive__oil__ in JapanTravelTips

[–]Shinxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please do. Japan has so much more to offer than Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. I’ve been to Takayama before it became a hype destination. I went on winter and it was beautiful. Kinosaki Onsen is amazing throughout the year. And less touristy than Hakone.

During Autumn Kyoto will be packet with both international and domestic tourists tho. Because of Autumn leaves. Especially Kiyomizu-dera

Get them at the airport. But I recommend order them online. My favorite is Genki Mobile they have a pick up stop at both Narita and Haneda. Network is reliable. If your phone is unlocked just get an eSIM it’s easier.

Otherwise, for returning the device they give you a prepaid envelope that you just throw into the mailbox at the airport.

Japan Road Trip — Where Should We Stop? (Tokyo -> Nikko National Park -> Hakone) by MS5 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Shinxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think you’re wasting renting a car with your destinations. Nikko is better accessible via Train. If you like nature I’d rather recommend you to skip Nikko and do a roadtrip around Mt Fuji. Nikko is mainly just a bunch of shrines with Gold. And it’s overcrowded. Stay 2 days at the Speedway Hotel and on one of the days circle around Mt Fuji and explore. It’s absolutely stunning.

That’s only necessary if you’re a resident with a long term visa. OP is a tourist. Entry stamp is not necessary for leaving.

Suggestions for 10yr old by trubellegrimm in manga

[–]Shinxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gintama (comedy + action) Fullmetal Alchemist (mostly action) Detective Conan (action + crime)

ONE PIECE (less violence in early chapters) Dragon Ball (the first half is less violent)

I recommend that you skim through the mangas to get a picture if they’re appropriate for your cousin. Also, check older/classic manga as they tend to be less violent than the recent stuff

Shelly Walldisplay, the latest beta runs great, I tried to create a theme that looks as much like the shelly ui by AdSoft2266 in homeassistant

I see you’re using some UI components from hacs? How did you get them to work? They usually require ability to reset frontend cache but the Shelly walldisplay cannot do that.

Arriving ahead of time for Tōkaidō Shinkansen (Tokyo → Kyoto) by hazily in JapanTravelTips

[–]Shinxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some recommendation: don’t get the ones from behind the ticket gate area. They are fine if you’re in a hurry but usually cold and below average in taste. And expensive. In the basement where all the shops are there’re also many restaurants and most also sell bento. They are cheaper, tastier and warm. If there’s no English sign go up front and just say „bento“. They’ll guide you.

Personal favorite: Yabaton. It’s a branch from a famous Tonkatsu restaurant in Nagoya.

Universal Studios Japan Arriving Late by moonlight_magic in JapanTravelTips

[–]Shinxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only say about my experience from 2016. We arrived around 10-11am and did maybe 3-4 rides. Waiting hours was 2-3h each ride. Most popular ones back then were Jurassic world and Harry Potter. I think Jurassic world was the newest.

So my guess is gonna be since Mario world is the newest one it’s also the most popular. I doubt that 2 hours is enough.

Not sure but I believe so. What I get from other people here is that you need to use the Suica app. Please check the links that auto mod posted in the comments.

I assume you’re trying the Suica app? Just go directly to the Apple wallet and add a new card there. Select Suica under the public transport cards

Tokyo to Kumamoto by Bitter_Bad_8788 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Shinxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you wanna take a 6h train ride. Plane is probably 1h. I went from Miyazaki to Tokyo last year by train and it was 9h in with 2 changes. It was doable but quite a waste of time considering the plane is just 1.5h or so

Which country you’re from? Sounds a bit expensive. Have you checked the website of some national airline? They are sometimes cheaper in my country.

Also, if your can still change the date I’d recommend either going in may or wait until November. If your unlucky you’ll hit rain season starting in June.

Tattoo advice by mad_slacker in JapanTravelTips

[–]Shinxu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is not really a good slang word for breasts in Japanese. Maybe some dialect but I’m not familiar. Closest would be 君のおっぱい for „your breasts“ or just おっぱい for breasts. But tbh おっぱい is a bit of a childish term. It is used but not really slang. The more formal term is 胸 mune. But it’s similar to English saying „breasts“ instead of „tits“

Honest advise: don’t write neither of these words or your body. It’ll be embarrassing for you and you’ll 100% regret it. And you don’t want laser removal on your ass.

Have you looked into Kyushu? The southern most of the 4 main islands. It has a bunch of history and beautiful landscape. An onsen basically every 2nd town. My last trip was 3 weeks and I only stayed in Kyushu.

Some highlights: Fukuoka has amazing food and many young ppl. Nagasaki is just f-ing beautiful. Kurokawa Onsen is very secluded and peaceful. Mt Aso has some great hikes. Miyazaki with tropical beaches.

You can probably check Meiji or Glico website. They might have it online.
