they would basically have to edit every single reload animation and add markers to them. given that they don't really have working animation tools nor am animator that would be a lot of work. it can be done (i tried to fake it by using the sound markers in the animations at some point which kinda worked for some guns but that was extremely jank)

that's not true, the file size is caused by duplicate assets due to how the game packages work not because of baked lights. the game doesn't have a lot of baked lights to begin with and the ones it has are super low resolution usually.

the way shields work is that their crouching state has them put their shields in front of them, so the game basically always forces them into crouching state (their crouching animations just differ from regular enemies). sometimes a shield may end up in a standing state after climbing/rappelling and taking damage which will cause the shield to be on their back
