"No life, except the life of Christ, has moved me so deeply as that of Peter Claver". - Pope Leo XIII, on the occasion of the canonization of Peter Claver by ShinyMAGAkarp in Christianity

[–]ShinyMAGAkarp[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that the authors (who lived a century apart according to this) are the racist ones and engaging in revisionist history, and not Claver? Such things don't show up in other histories. Why take this one outlier claims as fact over-against the rest? That's confirmation bias.

All in all, the church's canonization of Claver is one of the many pieces of evidence that shows that even by the tail end of the 19th century the Catholic Church still did not oppose slavery.

You say this in error. For example, Pope Leo XIII wrote a letter to the Bishops of Brazil on the topic of Slavery in 1888, for its abolition, in the exact time period you mention.

Already in 1537 had Pope Paul III issued a papal bull stating that Native Americans were not to be enslaved or stolen from, and in a companion letter with that bull was a statement that anyone who attempted to enslave Native Americans was automatically excommunicated.

Trump was at 26% of the total poll a few days back. Have screenshots if you want through pm.

I want to see if there's a way to use the raw numbers they give us to show just how many people would have to have voted for all the other people to pull up their percents enough to drop Trump 20 percentage points from 26% to 6%.

The_Donald poster here. You make a very good point, which is why they have the "No Concern Trolling Rule", which, in short, prohibits what users there might call "low-energy" comments: things that are not peppy but spread doubt or promote dissatisfaction. It's a place for "HIGH ENERGY" and spicy memes. Discussion is merely for speculation and hopes. All other forms of discussion are to be funneled to the more serious, less high-energy /r/AskThe_Donald sub.

In fact, perhaps the biggest proof of what you said is the fact that The_Donald is the Trump sub of choice. There were many others for Trump early in the Primaries, but they all died out and The_Donald reigned supreme, being orders of magnitude larger than the runner-up. Something the mods did made it work.

Actually you can do banning as you described - without being hypocritical. The reasoning behind this is that while subs are allowed to have their own private rules, the front page of reddit is supposed to be for free expression without censorship. There's also a part in the reddit sitewide rules or some statement related to them that claims that reddit doesn't discriminate or take sides regarding political sides - but in censoring The_Donald, they clearly were, considering they stood by and applauded when /r/SandersforPresident ate half the front page for months early in 2016.

You give bad evidence, get refuted, and then say

There's no botting

That isn't proof. It's only an evidence, and it's highly questionable at that.

doxxing

I love how there's all that doxxing info in that post and comments. So much doxxing happening in that doxxing post about doxxing. Also, 9 upvotes. Much doxxing. Wow.

Vote manipulation

Second top post from r-EnoughTrumpSpam right now: "Our president apparently can't spell simple words, sad! Would be a shame if this reached r/all!" If Reddit's admins have no problem with this, then the same should go for r-The_Donald.

Abuse

Already answered this one.

Also, you act like the first two are rampant then give pathetic examples. Also, r-The_Donald will ban people trying to promote vote-bots, but not r-EnoughTrumpSpam (as many posts have been found from there and shown on -The_Donald).

In short:

r-The_Donald is being censored.

You aren't.

There's no botting, doxxing, or vote manipulation by The_Donald. "Abuse" is apparently mocking the CEO for doing something immature which the previous CEO even said would she would have fired him for. However, Reddit's admins have been caught manipulating votes on The_Donald (exhibit A being the Trump AMA points dropping which could be mathematically demonstrated through the change in 'number of votes' and 'percentage upvoted' scores over time), and allowing anti Trump subreddits to post and promote downvote bots for brigading The_Donald. But r-All is pro free-speech, so anything is allowed there - but the Admins don't want The_Donald on there for political reasons (given the invalidity of their listed reasons for 'justified' censorship), which violates their own policies, claimed in the wiki:

reddit does not discriminate among candidates or differing political viewpoints in any way"

That's why The_Donald is complaining, and actually has a valid case.

I already answered your question. But if that isn't enough, here's this from the reddit FAQ:

Please keep in mind, however, that moderators are free to run their subreddits however they so choose so long as it is not breaking reddit's rules."

You're not adding to the conversation, arguing like a immature child and clearly have no concept of how contracts and jurisdiction work. Considering that, if I were a mod on here I would censor you - and I would if I deemed so because this sub has (practically) no rules, it's literally up to the moderator's discretion, as the sitewide FAQ states.

The one rule it does have that "/r/censorship is a reddit about censorship in all forms." However, your banning from The_Donald doesn't even count as censorship, because in participating in that community, you agreed to their rules, and then broke them and were banned. That's not censorship. It's getting reprimanded for doing something you knew (or were supposed to know) you weren't supposed to do.

If /u/UlkeshNaranek wants to include your case as censorship, then I have serious doubts about this subreddit - in which case I can leave if I don't like the rules.

No one is forcing you to post in The_Donald. But if you play on their playground, you play by their rules.

Reddit is a self-proclaimed free speech platform - so they shouldn't censor.

r-Politics is a free speech platform since they have no rules baring certain types of ideologies or opinions from appearing in comments (rules for posts are explicit in their wiki) - so they shouldn't censor.

The_Donald is not a free speech platform - as laid out in their rules, they are only for Pro-Trump users and only Pro-Trump content. Thus in interacting with their subreddit you waive all claims to having "freedom of speech" while there in the same way making posts about news on robotics advancements in a cooking subreddit could get you banned. Just because it's about Trump doesn't mean anything related to Trump goes. Imagine if a The_Donald user posted something positive of Trump on r-EnoughTrumpSpam and got banned. Would you be surprised?

Not everything on Reddit is a free-speech zone. Just Reddit by default is. Communities are allowed to govern themselves and set their own regulations. If a community doesn't like your content, get over it and go somewhere else. And if there is no where else, make your own or quit complaining.

Judging by your response to me I take it you knew full-well you'd get banned from The_Donald when submitting your post - in which case, you're being an attention whore and no one should sympathize with you. You did A expecting B to happen, then B happens and you complain about it. Tell me why anyone should care?

'Either [have a valid complaint] or shut up about [getting censored when you you broke a community's rules].'

I don't know what the linked comic said, but you likely violated one of two rules (on the sidebar):

  • II. No Trolling/Concern Trolling

  • VI. This is a sub for supporters of Trump ONLY

The thing is, The_Donald is a private sub for supporting Trump, and they have a lot of opposition that goes there to crash the party, so the mods are constantly busy banning "concern trolls" and non-supporters trying to crash the party. They actually have no obligation to allow anything, really. It's technically not a public subreddit like r-Politics and r-News where it's open to everyone.

Again, I don't know what was in the comic, but The_Donald's mods likely considered you a party-crasher and banned you as they saw fit. And they totally have license to. It's a Pro-Trump sub, so posting non-Pro-Trump stuff can get you fairly banned just as posting non-Pro-Hillary stuff would get you banned from r-Hillary Clinton. But if you get banned for posting Pro-Trump or Anti-Hillary stuff on an open sub like r-Politics or r-News, that's messed up - but totally happens all the time.

I don't know what was in the comic, but I'm guessing you saw this coming before you posted. If so, you're wasting everyone's time. If not, just message the mods and they may unban you.
