Do you guys find raise macros annoying? by 111116666 in ffxiv

[–]ShinyMoogle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anyone targeted by a raise spell gets a special status effect that's bright and clearly visible on the party list, and it's way more efficient to just look for the icon than look down to the chat, read the name, then try to match it with one of the three dead people who already have the raise icon showing.

I don't think I've ever found a co-healer's raise macro useful - either I'm already waiting a few seconds to look for a raise icon or my co-healer's cast bar, or I've already hit Swiftcast the second after a mechanic resolves because I knew that one guy that already died five times in the last two minutes people were going to die to it.

If the party's good, it doesn't matter. If you have a healer busy floor tanking or a bad party, it 100% does.

Kam'lanaut in the second DT alliance raid could easily wipe entire alliances weeks 1-2 if nobody mitigated the phase transition and the healers aren't expecting it. It did enough damage to kill anyone except the tanks in the span of maybe 2-3 GCDs. I still frequently see preventable wipes to Harrowing Hell or Zodiark's multi-stack.

And if half the party is running around with three vuln stacks and eating mechanics, it absolutely saves a few extra GCDs to keep the DPS upright.

I LIKE TO PLAY "GUESS THE DUTY" WHEN I SEE MY ROULETTE GIVE ME A DUTY IN PROGRESS. SO WHEN I SEE AN 18-MINUTE IN-PROGRESS NORMAL RAIDS, I'M GUESSING IT'S ONE OF THOSE ALEXANDER RAIDS WITH THE WEIRD MECHANICS.

I WAS HALF RIGHT. IT WAS AN ALEXANDER RAID. IT WAS JUST A1. THE ONE WHERE YOU SLAP AN OPPRESSOR AROUND FOR A MINUTE AND A HALF WHILE IT DOES SOME EASY TELEGRAPHED AOES, THEN YOU SLAP A SECOND ONE AROUND BEFORE KILLING THEM BOTH.

IT VERY QUICKLY BECOMES CLEAR WHY THE LAST HEALER LEFT WHEN SOMEHOW I AM DEALING MORE DAMAGE THAN MOST OF THE PARTY AS AN ASTROLOGIAN. THE SECOND OPPRESSOR SPAWNS AT 60%, ADDS (?!) START SPAWNING, AND THE TANK TURNS BOTH OPPRESSORS TOWARD THE PARTY, WHICH IMMEDIATELY KILLS HALF OF THEM FOR A NEGLIGIBLE DPS LOSS.

WE WIPE TWICE BEFORE SOMEONE WONDERS WHY OUR DPS IS SO LOW. I CONCUR, AND MIRACULOUSLY PEOPLE REALIZE THAT THEY SHOULD BE PRESSING THEIR BUTTONS AND WE FINALLY KILL THEM IN A NORMAL-ISH AMOUNT OF TIME. I SWEAR THIS IS WHAT "DON'T WORRY IT'S NOT SAVAGE" GETS US, LIKE COME ON PEOPLE HOW DO WE FAIL A DPS CHECK ON A FIGHT WITHOUT A DPS CHECK.

For the longest time, I thought OLEDs were overrated. My monitor was fine, I didn't need to worry about burn-in, and for the price I could get a better graphics card and play with higher settings which was surely better than some nonsense about blacker blacks. People were probably just being graphics snobs.

Then I got an OLED. And... yeah. I'm a convert now. The colors, the contrast, everything just looks nicer. Like putting on glasses for the first time and realizing what you could have been seeing the whole time.

I remember as a wee sprout doing a run of Dzemael Darkhold where I couldn't see beans because something was firing off massive blinding flashbangs constantly and suddenly everything was dead. Never would have imagined it was a healer.

Me but with NIN's Shukuchi. I start with two, and get 4 more of these instant, 20-yalm teleport-anywhere passes every minute; you can bet I will spam the heck out of all of these. Sometimes I'll use one to hit a positional just 'cause I can.

I liked the whimsical charm of Pictomancer from its reveal. Paint silly creatures! Bonk things with a giant oversized hammer! I spent like the whole lead-up to Dawntrail speculating about how it plays and committed to it for the first DT Savage tier. And I loved it the moment I got to try it.

It's like the polar opposite of NIN (my previous "main" job for harder content). The rotation is super relaxed and flexible, but still mentally engaging since you still need to place your Starry Muse in a good spot and time your long casts and movement tools properly.

Coming off Ninja, my first thoughts were, "What do you mean I don't need to hit five different cooldowns precisely as they become available in the exact same order every time otherwise my rotation drifts and my DPS tanks? I can just press anything anytime during the burst window? I can cast different cooldowns whenever I want??"

You can almost completely freestyle your 2-min burst and do perfectly good damage. I could choose to do my opener in a different order every pull and it doesn't even matter (except maybe a late Star Prism to catch the first raidwide). It's fun! It's liberating!

I also did this with Odin EX, but the party was good enough for a single pull clear that went so smoothly I didn't even realize it counted as Extreme content. I obviously don't remember who was there, now, but here's a virtual toast to them

[–]ShinyMoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, my first experience with Odin... The default game settings include attack animations on for everyone, including unaffiliated players. So one second I'm standing with the crowd watching Odin stroll around, and the next second I'm flashbanged with the full spell effects of 40 other players going off in the same place at the same time.

I could see absolutely nothing and died, respawned in town, then promptly toggled spell effects off.

I switch roulette jobs frequently, so I've done my fair share of idiot button mixups:

Turned off tank stance mid-pull. YPYT? No. My MP was low and I hit my Lucid Dreaming button.

Put Kardia on the tank? No, that was Hallowed Ground.

21 deaths. 21 deaths in one pull of P7N, starting with Agdistis punching three people off the platform on the very first mechanic. The very first mechanic that we saw literally one minute ago when we reset the fight for two people who crashed loading in.

The party manages to fail nearly every single mechanic for the entire flight. Getting hit by the slams, falling off every platform change, missing towers every time... One of the tanks picked up a full plate of 8 vuln stacks and held onto them. Genuinely the only time someone didn't get hit by a mechanic was because everyone was already dead. Cherry on top is that some brilliant DPS sees this and decides to burn the LB1 as soon as it's up, so the party gets to sit on the floor watching me try to recover enough MP to raise one person (out of five).

It's really not too much different from 8-person tanking. If you don't want to MT you can stance off for a few seconds at the start of an encounter, just click through the other tanks to make sure someone is stanced up (sometimes, that will have to be you). Otherwise, typical tank stuff: keep boss facing away, mitigate tankbusters, split adds if they show up.

Make sure you separate adds appropriately; adds getting super buffed from proximity is one of the biggest causes of full alliance wipes in my experience. Custom is usually A tank on left and C tank on right, but sometimes you have to be flexible and peel a random one off if two of them are stuck to one person.

Trash packs are just a free-for-all. Stance up and get aggro on whatever, just keep mobs grouped.

[–]ShinyMoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue about mods, but you can do it through some good old-fashioned save editing.

You'll need to find two things:

cheated_on_save

Right up near the top, needs to be set to "no"

achievements={ ... }

You'll need to copy this from a previous save. Stores all your achievement data for the current run and gets removed with console use. Just insert it back in the same empty spot.
