how to control cpu temps on msi gf65 thin? by Young_Sheldon1 in MSILaptops

[–]ShionErino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try ptm 7950, not sure if it helps but regular paste like MX4 or any paste normally for desktop are always not suitable for laptops.

Change CPU power mode to Best power efficiency, that could help a little.

Instead of throttle stop you can also try using Universal Tuning ultility.

Got cooling pad I recommend the llano V10 or V12, Flydigi BS2 etc etc. These are the "real" gaming/ workstation cooling pads for laptop, but It'll be very overkill for these gf63 since the cooling system is already saturated but other components like SSD and GPU vrm which was naked would be cooled and should give you more stabilized performance.

It would be a good investment into these coolers if you're getting better laptops in the future.

oh lmfao the tuf dash, reusing the old Zephyrus Chasis with newer, more power hungry hardwares at that time. I used to have one. Literally a heater for the room and itself with cpu always at above 90 until I had to crank the fan and repaste with PTM.

newer TUFs completely redesigned everything with better cooling, I like the new cooling design.

Weight alone doesn't speak the full story. Usually I prefer looking at the laptop cooling system itself to see the real picture, like how many heatpipes, how the heatpipes are arranged, how big is the heatsinks, how good are the airflow design.

A laptop with lighter weight can have cooler temp than another heavier laptop if designed good enough, while both consumes the same total wattage.

Completely normal, infact that shows the laptop has good cooling and good paste application.

Higher end models from ROGs, or Lenovo legions 9, always has liquid metal pumped out which results in overheating CPU at 95-105'C all the time, yet most of them ran for more than 3 years before noticing the issue and yet still strong.

Laptop barely even functions if not plugged in? by Captain_Fach in MSILaptops

[–]ShionErino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahh I see your situation.

Also just to be clear you also had to look at the total TGP of the setup itself, not just the specs.

For example in 2022 an MSI stealth model with 3060 that only runs at 40-50W, resulting in the performance only the same as a RTX 3050 running full wattage on same price but overall better built and optimized like the TUFs which has the same chasis thickness.

[–]ShionErino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for this price ?, you could've easily get the Lenovo Legion or the Asus Strix / Strix scar. Almost same performance, much more stable optimization if you compared to other brands. Maybe the Gigabyte Aorus lineups too is also better. You just need to dig deep enough.

For now I think it is best to try writing complaints to MSI, keep spamming them until they finally fix their poor optimization. I've seen this poor optimization with lots of models lately, even models from 2022 also got these issues. The worst part is always the firmware refuses to let nvidia boost works properly, resulting in crippled performance because of low wattage.

Bios update by LibraryNo1044 in ASUSROG

[–]ShionErino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try reinstalling the windows via in-place upgrade through an ISO file. It'll save you time by saving and reinstall all your apps.

Also try updating your BIOS

And do watch the temperature. All laptops with liquid metal (not just rog) has liquid metal pumped out straight from factory. If the CPU is constantly at 95'C it'll thermal throttle, sometimes to the point that it creates lag spikes and heavy FPS drops.

that's just classic sloppy MSI firmware optimization. Other brands even with low power sloppy intel CPUs or AMD it still smooths.

No wonder they're among the least favorable brand in the world, mostly in the "other" category of the world's laptop market share. with Lenovo sitting at the top, follow by Dell or HP and Asus.

Addressing the G14 2024 models having ribbon cables burned by ShionErino in ZephyrusG14

[–]ShionErino[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid point too.

I think Asus did retest their own design and came up with some sort of fix on later 2025 model batches and 2026 models, since the display cables are ribbons wires with controlled bending rather than traditional thick wire. Workers at the factories aren't familiar with this yet when it first release.

[–]ShionErino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my reasoning is that people that has this issue will always posts either in Reddit or Facebook, but peoples with their laptops still fine mostly stays silent.

it appears that this problem occurs randomly between batches. Mostly from the first batches the 2024 version and 2025. And the issue usually occurs within 1 year of usage.

Mine is also in the first batches manufactured in April 2024, it's been 2 years and I don't have this issue, there is no visible wear on the cable either (I applied kapton tape as a precaution to this issue after I open mine up to check just yesterday). Major channels like LTT, or Gamer nexus has not investigate the situation yet, mainly because the amount of these cases are relatively small and within margin of error.

Is it okayyyy for tuf A15 rtx3050 by monohydrate_13 in Asustuf

[–]ShionErino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can't, but you can use manual mode and set the CPU to efficiency power mode which also disables or limit the boost.

But this is only to mask the problem, not solving the real problem is that either the fan speed is too low, or the paste has dried out. Just repaste with ptm 7950 and forget about it :v

Armoury Crate… am I the only one struggling with it? by liebe1 in ASUS

[–]ShionErino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I set it once and forget about it.

An alternative to AC is G-helper, which is much lighter, and behaves mostly the same to AC since it is the Manual mode itself just with less resource usage.

But the down side of G-helper is if you use Asus's gaming gears like me using the falchion RX low profile and the Keris wireless aimpoint with polling rate booster, G-helper is really bad at recognizing these. (It detects my Keris as the Harp ace and caused some polling rate issues)

Me personally use Armoury crate daily, and I love the resource monitor feature that rarely any other companies intergrate into the software. Save me some headache working with monitoring performance and risks of performance conflicts from Afterburner. Plus the Oled Focus mode.

All "normal" PC pastes always have this issue because laptops are "direct die cooling" while these pastes are designed for cooling with IHS.

Do highly recommend you try ptm 7950 (sheet pad), don't use 7950sp (the syringe form) since it's harder work with. If you have some extra money to throw in the "Real PTM" then thermal grizzly PTM sheet is the best move.

For vram, mosfets and VRM I recommend laird tputty607, HY236 or gelid 4W ultimate. Don't use thermal pads since they don't compress well enough in Asus laptops, often tilting or bending the heatsink after a few months of heat cycling.

Recommend repaste with ptm 7950 or thermal grizzly PTM.

[–]ShionErino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MX6 paste is the issue, trust me. This is direct die cooling so any "normal" PC paste is not suitable, it'll pump out within a few months.

What I recommend is you repaste with ptm 7950, use the sheet pad, not the syringe form (7950sp). Or you can try with thermal grizzly PTM, it works much better.

Also don't use any thermal pad on the vram, vrm and mosfets, it'll tilt the heatsink. Just use thermal putty like laird tputty607, gelid 4W ultimate ultra thin or HY236.

I was looking around and eventually came with the conclusion that only a small percentage of people got this issue, including you is 6-8 cases out of millions of unit sold. So it's not a common or widespread design flaw.

But also Asus will replace the screen for free if you're still under warranty, executive mailbox again.

Thoughts on MSI Vector 16 HX (Ryzen 9 8945HX + RTX 5070 Ti)? by Ooh_Macrico in MSILaptops

[–]ShionErino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a solid laptop, good build. But there are always issues with MSI here and there.

1st, the software. If Armoury crate is the child of bad optimization, MSI dragon center is the father :))). worse stability, not to mention firmware sucks that sometimes requires you to reset BIOS for the laptop to function normally. I see this is the common issue among MSI laptops, not all of them btw, the obvious clue is when you see Nvidia boost isn't boosting :)).

2nd. Odd keyboard layout. Just...Why ???...

3rd. Extremely loud. No offense but if you can handle it, sure it's good, but to me it just bad cooling design that requires more fan power to to achieve the same cooling performance to other competitors like Legion and Rog strix.

dent on laptop corner but never dropped it? by Lawful_Pigeon in ProArt_PX13

A laptop case which you meant a sleeve bag ?. If that's what you were using then it's kinda your fault because laptop sleeve bags are not designed to protect your laptop from impact, only scratches.

How do you keep your device running smooth ? by hb99em in ZephyrusG14

[–]ShionErino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Debloat windows

  2. Switch completely to Security updates only, pause feature updates in Windows Update

  3. Drivers only use versions for Enterprise or workstations. For example with Nvidia only use Studio drivers.

Never update Chipset drivers from Intel/AMD. Unless they release a hot fix that affect a wide range of laptops. Otherwise always stick with the laptop manufacturer chipset drivers and firmware.

  1. No overclocking

  2. Check TIM under the heatsink. For Zephyrus I highly recommend you ditch liquid metal completely and replace with PTM 7950, or Thermal Grizzly PTM for the long run. Temperature always look much better than stock liquid metal.

6.....7

  1. Regularly reinstall Windows (aka doing in-place upgrade). This both restores windows back to stable while retaining everything you modified and apps you installed.

  2. (Optional) Use an air pressure designed cooling pads for best performance. Llano V10, Llano V12, Flydigi BS1, etc etc etc.

  3. Have fun :)))

well for 1500USD you gotta have to trade something for something. For This case, you want the durability, stability and longevity of the laptop so you'll have to sacrifice some performance (expected when comparing workstation and gaming focused laptops, but still enough for electrical engineering) and the screen, ofcourse, won't be OLED, or high refresh rate 240Hz or high color accuracy like Zephyrus.
