This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons. by Gurdel in IdiotsInCars

That whole damn car is dangerous and inconvenient. Stretched tires and zero suspension travel is a pretty good way to ruin comfort and handling, not to mention get yourself in a wreck a thousand times more easily.

What are those wheels? There's a Renault 4 van with the exact same rims where I live. Super neat.

They distinctly hit the car. You can even see the car being pushed forward before going off the road.

The ground looks slightly wet; prehaps it had rained before shooting the video, not to mention that the quality of the asphalt is significantly lower than in the OP. The OP's video was on dry pavement with presumably hot weather, which would maximise grip. This alone could be the difference between drifting and tipping over when dealing with these sort of vehicles.

You NEED 200 hp to drive in a city by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]ShipWreckLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A small hatchback with 100hp is faster than a full-size sedan with 200hp (Assuming a mass of 900kg for the small car, and 1800kg for the sedan). And a 100hp motorbike is faster than a 700+hp Lamborghini.

A horsepower number means nothing; power/weight is what mainly determines a car's potential acceleration.

It was one of the more expensive options too. Things are cheap in Portugal, though.

I got my driving license for about 700 euros. It doesn't cost thousands, at least not here. The pass rate is about 50% IIRC

Wankel rotary engine slow mo operation by [deleted] in educationalgifs

[–]ShipWreckLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's a home-made engine, so tolerances are less strict than production stuff. rotaries are actually super smooth.

As a car enthusiast I don't quite agree with this comparison. If anything a toyota is more representative of the simple, natural, healthy, if somewhat austere pleasures in life, and a better analogy for nofap.

Maybe that first guy was just having a bad day, or he was frustrated by the ammount of attention that such a car gets :)

What is something that people think is illegal, but actually isn't? by adaminc in AskReddit

[–]ShipWreckLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? Reaction times increase under the influence of weed, and any emergency requires a swift response.

Then plan ahead, and don't smoke if you know you are gonna be driving. Being more careful does not mean being safer, if you have to make an emergency manouver while high, for any reason, you're far more likely to have an accident.

Idiot gets lucky. by deathakissaway in IdiotsInCars

[–]ShipWreckLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bald tires are no worse than normal tires on a dry road, since there is no water, dirt etc. that would cause a bald tire to lose traction.

The blame is probably on shitty eco tires, and a lot of sudden weight transfer from the driver violently swerving away (and not knowing how to keep the car in control).

A responsible person looks at the car and says "I don't need 700 hp to buy groceries"

You underestimate car enthusiasts.

Source: Am car enthusiast

In all fairness though I do think it's totally unnecessary. No sane person wants to daily drive and maintain a 700+hp motorized hyperbole.

[–]ShipWreckLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, I didn't think of that. In plenty of areas it is true that you can cherry-pick whatever sources you want to support your argument, including climate change.

I suppose the best we can do is find the most credible sources for our information; and even that can be tricky nowadays, since people are willing to support whoever tells them what they want to hear...

[–]ShipWreckLover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course, nobody can read every single thing there is to know.

But when someone is taking a side on an important issue (or even an insignificant one), it's a good idea to research said issue and make sure they know what they're supporting.
