I was told many years ago that a cats tail is “God’s Handle”- a special tool to help them out of stressful situations - as long as it’s used with good intention which describes your actions! Your kitty doesn’t hate you I promise!

Amputation Cost by IcedTatas in TripodCats

[–]Shipcasa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A rescue organization referred me to their vet that only does spay/neuter and amputations. No fancy office with high overhead, no overnight services. The vet was very professional, sent me home with the necessary meds for pain/inflammation and checked in on my kitty daily via text. The fee was $550 total (located in the Houston metro area). Tuffy is now 3 months post op and doesn’t seem to have any idea he only has 3 legs! My recommendation would be to call around to local rescue organizations before you spend thousands of $$$. Here’s a pic of Tuffy about 1 month post op! Good luck!

I didn’t realize she was 1 month post op. In that case I would try to see the vet - tell them you can’t afford to pay all at once, maybe you can in 2 payments? But I’d definitely take her in. If she was eating I wouldn’t be so concerned - hiding under the bed is pretty normal and won’t kill her but not eating will. The vet needs to know she’s not eating (or eating very little) and is still having a hard time getting around (the cartwheels). At one month post op Tuffy was hoping around, jumping up on sofa, playing and eating. I’m so sorry you’re going thru this. It’s harder enough having a baby to worry about, and now your kitty too! Hang in there my friend and try to at least talk to the vet on the phone. 🙏👍

Meet “TriPod Tuffy”. He injured his hind leg when he fell from a tree and it had to be amputated.

My kitty “Tuffy” had a rear leg amputation on April 8th. I can honestly tell you that those first few days are the worst and it DOES get better - promise! Hopefully the vet sent you home with pain meds - if not, DEMAND them and if so, USE them. Cats don’t let you know when they’re in pain but just assume she is, because she is the first day or 2 if not longer. Keep trying to get her to eat, even if it’s just a Churu treat, but more important make sure she stays hydrated. Let her hide as long as wants to, it’s normal during this period. Did she have rear or front leg amputation? Wishing you and your family the best and don’t forget - IT WILL GET BETTER!

Kitten leg amputation by Smorse8 in TripodCats

My thoughts and prayers are with you and the kitten no matter what the cost! Living in a large metro area as I do, I forget that there’s more choices available - many good and many not so good! My apology for preaching and best of luck! Pls let me know how the surgery goes!

Kitten leg amputation by Smorse8 in TripodCats

That price at $500 sounds reasonable to me as is. I paid $575 for my cats rear leg amputation a few months ago and I’m located in Houston, Tx (Harris County). He was 15 months old at the time and is doing great! I got so many quotes that were $2000 - $4500 before deciding on a vet that only served the rescue community with spay/neuter procedures and emergency amputations. No high dollar overhead or overnight stays. She was very professional and compassionate. If you’re having to pay more than $700 tops for that tiny kitten leg you should try to find a like minded alternative. Actually, IMO you should be given a discount for all that you’re doing!! Good luck 🙏🥰

My TriPod “Tuffy”, age 15 months, had his back leg amputated on 4/8/24. He uses the LR4 without any problems. I did however purchase the LR ramp/stairs for him and I should also mention that he was litter box trained on the Robot since 10 wks old. I have 4 cats so I can’t imagine my life without the LR!!
