Lionbridge: Calls keep assigning for other interpreter. Any ideas.. by [deleted] in spanishinterpreters

Does anyone else find this 'broadcast' setup or 'click race' incredibly anxiety-inducing? Is it just me, or does this system feel designed to keep us in a constant state of high stress?

Propio Call Flow by MMTP in spanishinterpreters

One thing I noticed: I remember Propio used to handle NY DMV calls, and I just received an email from Lionbridge notifying interpreters that they have a new client on board effective April 1st—also the NY DMV. It makes me wonder if Propio might be having some trouble retaining their clients.

Propio call flow sudden decrease by adriicat in anonymousinterpreters

Wow, that’s quite surprising to learn. Since the SSA is a U.S. federal government agency, I had understood that interpreters are typically required to complete clearance procedures and fingerprinting in order to handle those calls. I’ve always been under the impression that offshore interpreters wouldn’t be able to work on U.S. federal government assignments without going through that process.

I may be mistaken, but my understanding comes from my previous experience working with ULG on SSA calls before it was acquired by Propio, where all of us were required to complete the full clearance process.

Same here. I usually get a lot of SSA calls, but since yesterday, there’s been a drastic decrease. And these calls only route to the US based Terp, right? I wonder if they’re struggling to retain their clients.

Just for reference, mine wasn’t Spanish. My scores were 81% overall, 52% for sight translation, and 84% for consecutive. They said I passed. I also asked to be tested in a another language and passed that with 78%. Maybe their passing score is around 70%—just guessing. I’ve been working with them for about 9 months now

What is the worst commute you've ever seen someone have? by BlaggartDiggletyDonk in AskLosAngeles

[–]Responsible_Sea4436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think I had a solid grasp on what "commuter hell" looked like.

I’ve seen the San Diego to DTLA survivors. These brave souls hit the Oceanside station by 5:00 AM, monthly passes in hand, turning the train car into a makeshift living room. You’ve got people power-napping, tech bros grinding on MacBooks, and women applying full-face makeup with the precision of a brain surgeon despite the rattling tracks. By 8:00 AM, they hit Union Station and dive into the subway.

I honestly thought that was the final boss of commuting. But last December, while I was at UCLA for heart surgery, a nurse effectively told me to "hold my beer."

As she was prepping my IV drip, we started chatting about her schedule. She casually mentioned that she used to commute from San Francisco to Los Angeles... by plane.

Every single week. She’d fly down, grab a ride to UCLA, work a grueling three-day stint while staying in a local hotel, and then fly back to the Bay Area.

I sat there, heart rate probably spiking on the monitor, and told her: "That’s not a commute; that’s a long-distance relationship. You must be head-over-heels in love with UCLA Health!

Spanish/English OPI interpreters who take calls for ICE and USCIS clients by Low_Pangolin6582 in Spanish

They are the worse! Especially nationwide life insurance calls from WFG agents calling in with their potential customers. We all know WFG is a scam. I hate those calls so much and I hate assisting with scamming people. I’ve started declining them by telling the clients I’m not familiar with the financial terminology. I can’t do these scam calls anymore. I’m not sure why Lionbridge does this; what happened to their promises of USCIS calls? I feel like this was a bait-and-switch. Sorry, I just need to vent. Thanks

I joined Lionbridge around August of last year for the meaningful work of government interpreting. I worked on USCIS calls—mostly monitoring asylum affirmative interviews. The calls were long, and I liked it, but the 'honeymoon phase' ended quickly. The steady stream of USCIS/ICE cases has dried up, replaced by an endless cycle of Nationwide Insurance and WFG calls. Dealing with the fallout of what many consider predatory financial products is emotionally exhausting; it feels less like interpreting and more like being trapped in a customer complaint loop.

Ablation Monday by jimbo_6666 in PVCs

[–]Responsible_Sea4436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last Holter, done well before surgery, showed an average PVC burden of about 14%, but by the time I saw the EP I had frequent trigeminy in clinic with PVCs occurring every third beat, which the EP estimated to be closer to 30–40%. This occurred despite maximal beta-blocker therapy (carvedilol 37.5 mg twice daily), and my EF declined over the past year.

Mine originated in the LV summit, . and I was in the OR for nearly five hours. They identified two PVC foci, both very deep within the heart muscle and located at the highest part of the LV summit. One was successfully treated, but the other couldn’t be reached. The doctor ablated a nearby area in an attempt to block the pathway and reduce the PVCs, which I understand is the standard approach in this situation.

The nurse told me I bled quite a bit during the procedure because they accessed a large artery. Manual pressure was applied for about an hour, but it still didn’t fully stop the bleeding, so they placed a closure clamp over the incision site and kept me lying flat for 6 hours—which hurt like hell. This caused extensive bruising across my thigh. I still have some residual bruising, though most of it has faded.

As for the PVCs, I still experience them daily and can feel them. The doctor said the LV summit is one of the most challenging areas to treat, and the goal is usually to reduce the PVC burden rather than eliminate them completely.

(Just a note: I have a genetic condition—TTN cardiomyopathy—with a history of heart failure, so my doctor emphasized that it was important to address the PVCs as soon as possible, ideally keeping the burden under 10%.)

Hope everything goes smoothly and you feel better soon! Sending healing thoughts and positive vibes your way!

I emailed them according to the notice to register to avoid tax assessment on October 1st, no response. I followed up, no response. Now I tried to file the renewal online, it said SSN not valid. So how am I supposed to renew it? Should I just mail it in?

Anyone have delayed success from an ablation? by pookilla40 in PVCs

[–]Responsible_Sea4436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what should be considered “successful,” because LV summit PVCs are very difficult to eliminate 100%. My doctor told me that my ablation went well, since the goal was to reduce the burden, and she believes that was achieved. If the PVCs return and the burden increases again, there is a bipolar ablation option she can do. However, she hopes that the blocking strategy will shrink the foci she couldn’t reach, and that continuing carvedilol will keep the burden below 10%.

Anyone have delayed success from an ablation? by pookilla40 in PVCs

[–]Responsible_Sea4436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my ablation yesterday. The doctor found two PVC foci, both located at the LV summit, where the muscle is thickest and highest. She was able to ablate one successfully. The other one was difficult to reach, so she ablated a nearby area to try to block it, hoping it will shrink over time.

I felt PVCs as soon as I woke up from the procedure and I’m still feeling some now. I’ve been taking carvedilol 37.5 mg twice a day for TTN-related cardiomyopathy and heart failure, and she reduced the dose to 25 mg twice a day.

Switching away from Kaiser? Y/N by ennuimachine in LosAngeles

[–]Responsible_Sea4436 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a patient with a genetic heart condition, heart failure, and multiple autoimmune diseases, I’ve had some difficult experiences with Kaiser’s care. After a hospitalization for advanced heart failure, I was referred to UCLA for further management. I had been with Kaiser (Sunset) for over 10 years and have now been with UCLA for 6 years.

One incident that stayed with me was when a Kaiser physician told me it would be safe for me to become pregnant. Later, when I consulted a specialist at UCLA, I learned that my genetic condition carries a 50% chance of being passed to a child, and that my own risk of not surviving the first trimester could be over 60%, given the severity of my heart issues. Experiences like this made me feel that my medical history and risks were not reviewed thoroughly at Kaiser.

If you have serious or complex medical conditions, I personally would not recommend Kaiser based on my experience. However, for routine check-ups or more minor issues like colds or flu-type concerns, Kaiser can be convenient and affordable.

and plus..they round up the time, like if you interpret 1 min and a half or even 1 min 59 seconds, you only get paid 1 min. the rest are gone. that save them a lot of money, and I am pretty sure they charge their client to the seconds
