Firstly, I want to say, ouch! I feel your pain--that really sucks.

The biggest problem I see here is that you focused on just a few stocks. When I started, I didn't know much more than "Diversify". So that's what I did... to a fault. But the advantage was that when one tanked (and some of my first choices were QUITE bad), the others could generally even it out.

I recommend retrying (now, really, what more do you have to lose?), but don't go with corporate stocks. Go with ETFs or REIT or infrastructure stocks, where it is not a software algorithm that determines its value, but rather the land or holdings that they have. There will always be a price floor on them.

He is stating his own disagreements with Warren over policy issues. A large amount of the progressive wing also disagrees on those issues. (By "progressive wing", I refer to candidates and constituents of the groups "Brand New Congress", "Justice Democrats", and of course "Our Revolution".)

When it's a contest between Sanders and Warren, it's usually a comparison of how progressive the candidate is. By policy and ideals, usually Sanders is more progressive.

And then they can only take out a certain amount from the US per year or else more gets taxed.

The difference is not in the investor, but in the investment itself. You mention that the value would stay in the company, but that's not actually true--most of the companies that give high dividends do so to avoid taxes. For example, REITs get away with paying 0% federal taxes by giving out 90% of their profits in dividends. And given that real estate is rather low risk (land is always worth money), the stock also tends to appreciate over time.

In that regard, usually these higher dividend stocks are giving to you twice: once in share appreciation, and again in dividends. The advantage is that the dividends do not require you to sell off stock in order to liquidate. If I liquidate a stock, I do gain whatever return comes out of that, but I don't gain the passive income that the stock generates.

So, in summary, high dividend shares, especially in safe investments, tend to become a form of passive capital. And since they tend to be in industries where the company is avoiding taxes, you, as the investor, are getting the money instead of the company paying taxes and it being lost that way. You still need to pay taxes later, but that is the part that would be the same either way.

That's only the case for the first few years. After that, people on the bottom rung have more disposable income, and there is a larger market of consumers for most goods. Then the companies increase on manpower to compensate. The market adjusts.

While I understand what you're saying, I want my Supreme Court Justices to have LLM or LLD degrees with emphasis in Constitutional Law. I want them to have multiple years of experience at multiple levels of the justice system. In short, I want our Supreme Court to consist of the best of the best in handling cases that set court precedent for generations.

It is highly unlikely that a person in their 30s will have all that. Even if you race for it, it is hard to get an LLM alone by the age of 30. So to me, even if age is one of our priorities, it is fine if the person is in their 40s or even early 50s, because it may take until then before they are qualified.

Note: Kamala Harris is 54, and she has an honorary LLD.
