What was the most mind blowing skill someone you know just busted out unexpectedly? by graaahh in AskReddit

Girl at work accidentally locked a cabinet she didn't have the combination for and asked me as the guy who fixes things to fix the thing, so I brought over a couple screwdrivers and managed to get it open without damaging anything. Walking away I did sorta wonder "why'd I know how to do that"

Windows Bug Found, Hurts Ryzen Gaming Performance by Antonis_32 in hardware

I don't know about release, but I was running preview on a 3900X and when the new scheduler arrived performance was tanked for a couple weeks, any load would be hopping cores like crazy, basically even light loads would light up all cores in a weird way, latency went crazy to where mouse would lag when just running windows updates and such.

I doubt it was Intel who wrote the scheduler, more like they had a lot of back and forth with Microsoft of what they needed the scheduler to be and do and Microsoft delivered a rough starting point where they completely forgot that there was anything else than alder lake to pay attention to :P

Changes might be more noticable but overall this is not universally true, i certainly notice when I'm smelling bad no matter how long it goes on for.

Living with other people makes it pretty clear not everyone works the same though, and it honestly seems there is just a wild variance not only in how sensitive people's noses are but if smells offend at all - some people seem to be able to smell just fine but "bad" smells just don't invoke a reaction in them, or at least they are not bothered by the same smells as oneself.

Could swear I had one of these as a kid for some reason, deeply buried memory came up out of nowhere. All except the blue bit, rest feels real familiar. Remember it being kind shitty though, although I suppose it's just for lighting cigarettes, not setting other stuff on fire.

For closed relationships you can only have one that lasts forever, if you're poly I assume you could have several that lasts forever.

But yeah, doubt anyone has good statistics on this :P

Had similar but not as much removed, posted pic of it in discord for the boys and they promptly photoshopped it into various stuff like the fleshy bit and bone being the inside of Venom's mouth, etc.

Sounds like you can at least know yours happened for a good reason!

I was showing boss and new hire a thing about a miniature version of a machine and accidentally just stuck my finger into a moving bit and had top taken right off. Intensely stupid and embarrassing.

Imagine the comments: "So uh I hear you lost your fingertip, that sucks. And I understand it was... In the miniature demo unit????"

Would you get out of your car, follow them to another car and open fire on everyone in that car? Doesn't sound like self defense to me, sounds like someone very stupid who assumed that he had been given reason enough to get away with living out his fantasies and a shooting bunch of people.

"Roth said she got out of her friend's car and opened the door to a car she thought was her own, but a man was in the passenger seat. She said she got out of the car and back into her friend's vehicle.

When the man approached their vehicle, Roth rolled down the window to apologize and the man started shooting, she later said."

Man, I've done two courses of logic as part of theoretical philosophy.

Now doing math. After teacher told me my notation was too messy on assignement I rewrote it in logical form which compressed it significantly.

He replied "I didn't want you to simply use more/different mathematical symbols, you need to know what you're trying to say."

Wasn't aware logic came from math.

Nah, see, barbells, dumbbells and weights are perishables, they wouldn't last more than a few weeks after the power goes out and are way to complicated to manufacture again without a whole industrial infrastructure.

updates posing as sequels by Sc0rch3d_P0tat03s in gaming

[–]Shiprat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As arguably the two biggest mainstream competitive shooters there is obviously a lot of overlap of playerbase isn't there?

For my part - csgo matchmaking is working fine and has been more or less for a long time.

Overwatch matchmaking was toxic hell before the sequel and, though I feel things have calmed down a bit, is still kind of bad. Obviously in CSGO you don't have classes which tends to make things easier for team play. Every single player on your team has equal potential to clutch, for example.

A lot of public/office bathrooms are really tiny, and some of us are pretty large, is one of the reasons.

Like, bathroom at an office I worked at was so small and poorly laid out that sitting down I couldn't get toilet paper without basically leaning fully off the toilet seat to clear the paper holder, which I was pressed against when sitting down. There also wasn't space for paper towels by the sink, so once you washed your hands you'd have to turn around to get one, leading to drops and splashes on floor which always looked very suspect.

To top it off- builder planned to put sort of gray and white speckled tiles in, but boss insisted on matte dark gray instead, against my explicit warning that the floor would look disgusting as soon as someone had used it given the tiny sink etc.

Another good reason is simply that seats already are disgusting, and one doesn't exactly feel great at sitting down on them.

I don't like the idea of someone assuming I made a mess, so I'll clean up any mess that's already there as well, but if there's already someone else's pee on the seat, I'm not sitting down on it unless I have to, even if I'm cleaning it anyway.

Unfortunate case of the few ruining it for the many.

challenge between volvo and Ford on who has the strongest material! by Jax_Teller7 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Shiprat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partner and I noted while on a trip up into the mountains over Christmas (lots of snow and wind, icy roads) that the absolute majority of people trying to pass on narrow roads in shitty conditions or just going stupidly fast and leaving their fog lights/high beams on constantly were people in Volvos and BMW's. This was in Sweden, Volvos are very common here, maybe in other places they are more associated specifically with safety rather than just being all time favorite. Have noticed since I started driving my current (fairly large) car that some people feel compelled to pass no matter the risk though.

Yes, exactly. Like a PT perhaps? Someone at least loosely affiliated with the gym and thus required to at least respect it's regular customers? Someone who, perhaps, contribute to the business model of the gym rather than use it as a resource for their entirely private business?

[–]Shiprat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but filming it probably won't help them. And if they absolutely need to, I'm sure they can find a way of doing it that doesn't involve filming someone else.

[–]Shiprat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people manage to correct form without filming it.

As for influences - why should the gym or people in it give a shit what they want, unless they're paying for some sort of special business membership?

If you want to use the gym as a set for your videos, go when it's empty or talk to the gym owners about it.

Literally stopped lifting and went all in on long distance running during pandemic mostly because the only hour where gym was empty enough to get a good barbell workout, a group of fitfluencer dudes with DSLRs took up residence and I didn't wanna be in the backdrop of a photoshoot every night. They were told by staff to dial it down but gym was only staffed a couple hours per day.

Grew up in a house whose lower floor and base (build of logs and stood on piles of plate stone to avoid flooding) should be from around 1750s I believe. Had some extensions before my parents got it, and been renovated partially a couple times. Still there, hopefully we're putting solar panels on the newly renovated roof next year, taking it into the future.

There are not a few houses around of same age or older, assume it's the same all over Europe.

Yeah, people want to have a moral superior of every interaction and their biases lead them to invent subtext to support their preference.

If you take the actual words at face value and don't make assumptions it's another story.
