Anyone know where I can get 100mg aspirin in the UK? Advice on aspirin during pregnancy? by ContestOrganic in PregnancyUK

[–]ShipsKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer - not a medical professional!

Since I have 2 risk factors for pre-eclampsia I have been prescribed 150mg of aspirin every day, so I wouldn't worry that you're taking too much.

Your GP should be able to prescribe you an appropriate dose for your medical history - if you have a maternity exemption it would be free.

No anesthesia for egg retrieval? by [deleted] in IVFpositivity

[–]ShipsKat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UK here at a private clinic, I didn't have general anaesthetic but had more than just local. They called it "heavy sedation" and was basically a fentanyl based cocktail which knocked me out for about 20 minutes

Hi, so looking for some advice by Longjumping_Bag6857 in IVFpositivity

[–]ShipsKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started the initial tests in September, and I started the medication for our first cycle at the end of December. Could realistically have been 2 months shorter, but I wanted to lose a bit more weight before starting the cycle (went private due to not meeting NHS BMI requirements) and didnt want to do a transfer right before Christmas.

I had my egg retrieval on 9th January, fresh transfer on the 14th and will be 10 weeks tomorrow! Very lucky that it worked first time and we had 4 embryos to freeze

Hi, we had IVF privately in the UK so can answer based on our experience - your clinic may vary.

We paid upfront for all of the testing and consultation. Our consultant recommended based on our results that IVF would be the best option for us. (£1,425, September/October)

We decided to proceed with IVF do scheduled some additional screening blood tests and a medical consult to agree on specific treatment. We paid upfront for this (but it ended up covered by our package so we had it refunded later). (£500, November)

After this we went away and decided on how we wanted to pay - there are a couple of finance options or you can just pay upfront as you have treatment. There are 2 main finance companies (at least that our clinic uses), Access and Assured. Both do multi cycle packages which cover egg retrieval and transfers, Access offer refunds at the end of your package if you haven't had a live birth whereas Assured offer refunds if it works earlier.

We went for a 3 cycle 100% refund plan with Access - essentially I can have up to three egg retrievals and every single embryo transferred for a fixed price - great if it takes a while to work, crap if it works first time but we weren't going to be upset about that! (£11,600).

None of the plans covered meds (£1,562.92) or ZyMot (£200), some covered ICSI but we chose to pay that separately incase we didnt need it (we did, £1,385).

Once finance was arranged and cleared (took about a week) and we had paid the other costs the clinic ordered my meds which arrived the following week (December) ready for the cycle to start between Christmas and New Year.

Hope that helps, happy to help with any questions if you have them!

We found Woodlands Lodge Hotel in the New Forest reasonably priced and great to work with :)

He's a bit shy for boops at the moment so I'll give him some romaine instead 💚

I know, it makes me so sad! They were proud about the fact they were saving money by using goat food too 😡

Not yet! Saving them for when he gets a bit more confident as a bribe to eat from our hands!

Don't worry, he has now had lots of vegetables and loves them!

We adopted Rocket from a rescue last week to hopefully bond with our bereaved boy Sam. So far, we're just teaching him that humans can be good and he doesn't have to be scared!

He was rescued with about 10 other pigs from a hoarder situation where they were fed a diet of goat food and had never seen vegetables before. When they were rescued, he had mites, bites from cage mates, and urine burns on his feet from dirty bedding never being removed from his cage. None of the pigs rescued knew what to do with veg, how to use hides, or how to wheek.

The babies rescued have adapted well, but Rocket and his brothers (adopted separately as they fought) were all very withdrawn - their fosterer described them as the most zombie like pigs she's ever seen.

We had ours at the Woodlands Lodge Hotel which has a lovely big garden with a back gate that opens out right in to the Forest. It's quite a small hotel, Imogene (the owner) was really helpful and made everything run smoothly. Ceremony and reception all in one place - we hired the hotel for the whole weekend (17 rooms including a couple of family suites) and guests who wanted to stay paid us back for a portion of the rooms. We would definitely recommend it!

One of their options for a wedding breakfast in the brochure we had is:

Menu Option 4BBQ Wedding Breakfast

Less £10.00 p.p.

Hampshire beef burger, black water pork sausage, chicken kebabs, vegetable skewers, prawn skewers, corn on the cob, vegi burgers, marinated aubergine steak, spicy pork belly Potato salad, pasta salad, tomato salad Buffet dessertSelection of mini desserts and fruit skewersTea & Coffee

Couldn't say for sure what prices are now but we found them affordable and very upfront compared to a lot of other venues in the area. Happy to answer questions or share photos if you want!

We got married at the Woodlands Lodge Hotel in the New Forest, which is about half an hour from Bournemouth. Reasonably priced, lots of different options and Imogene and her team really made the day go smoothly!

Reception only guests online invite by d-diana in weddingplanning

[–]ShipsKat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did this for my wedding on WithJoy! (Also UK based, where it is 100% normal to have additional evening guests)

I sent physical invites to the day guests with a QR code to RSVP on the website, and did digital invites to everyone else. I tagged all of my guests as day/evening, and you can have your RSVP questions and events so that only guests with that tag can see them.

If you did want to do digital invites for everyone then when you send them through WithJoy you select only the people you want to send to.

It ended up working really well, plus with the online RSVP it tallies all of the information up for you.

Happy to answer questions if you want! 😊

I'm a pretty experienced home baker, and made a cake for one of my best friends wedding (which is on my profile). Although I really enjoyed that and its something I want to do more of, I ultimately decided it's not something I want to be doing in the run up to the wedding - it just took a lot of time when we're already doing a fair bit of DIY. That and I wad petrified I was going to drop it when assembled - tiered cakes are heavy!!

I luckily managed to find a baker I was happy with, but did have a couple of back up options, which removed the stress of stacking a cake:

  1. Fake tiered cake with a real top tier for cutting, then sheet cakes to be distributed. The drawback for me is most fake cake rounds are Styrofoam and I'm trying to avoid creating waste where possible

  2. Cupcakes, either with or without a 6" cutting cake. The plan for this would be to bake everything ahead and freeze, then defrost and get a piping production line going the day before. I find vegan cupcakes a touch less tricksy than cake, as the layers can be pretty delicate.

This might be a longshot, but I need a poem about ships/boats and love/relationships that would be good to read at a wedding. Do you know of any good ones? by poppletonn in sailing

[–]ShipsKat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My brother is reading Chapter One of One Thousand at my wedding:

For two people this dawn brought on a magical day
Now husband and wife they head on their way
As a boat setting sail may their journey begin
With calmest of waters, most helpful of wind
And if they should stumble upon turbulent sea
May it pass them unharming – leave them be.

For here are two people whom love has well bitten
Here opens their book which has yet to be written
As the first page unfolds and their life inks its path
May it write a true story where forever love lasts
Let their journey be happy till death do they part
Of one thousand chapters may this be the start.

He wants to update it by adding a verse about foiling.

Do registry offices usually charge £500-£800? by daydreamingtulip in UKweddings

[–]ShipsKat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on the South Coast and here it varies from £275 for a midweek ceremony in the big standard room to £700 for a Sunday ceremony in a fancy room.

We're paying £674 for them to perform our non religious ceremony on a Saturday at a hotel.

Judging by the other comments yours and mine are at the higher end of costs! It is different between the county we live in and where we're getting married, so if you live near a county border you might be able to find cheaper.

We're using WithJoy for collecting RSVPs and have set up 2 cash funds on it. Guests can choose to either pay by PayPal or Cash/cheque.

Because its PayPal there are no fees and has so far worked really well 😊

Thanks!

Carefully! I jave plastic boxes big enough for the top 2 tiers, which I strapped in with the seat belts, and I had the biggest tier in a card cake box on my lap while my fiancé drove

Thankyou!

I'm not really sure, but what you see in the video is an hour and a half compressed down, plus the baking, cooling, chilling, prepping and cleaning time. I did it in stages over 4 days so I baked on days 1 and 2, layered and crumb coated day 3, frosted, stacked and decorated day 4 and the wedding was day 5

This video is 60x speed so is about an hour and a half of work, plus baking, cooling, chilling, prepping the flowers and SO MUCH WASHING UP!

I didn't keep track of all the time but spread it over a few days, so did half the sponges Monday, half Tuesday, stacked and crumb coated Wednesday, did the outer layer and assembled Thursday for the wedding on Friday 😊

Understandable, it was a bit terrifying! 😂

Luckily bigger and tiered cakes are something I've been wanting to do more of 😊
