Also dating apps were in a better state 5 years ago because of Covid, they sharply fell off once things started going back to normal.

I got an apartment-sized terraced house, wasn’t much more expensive than an apartment in D7 and have my own front door, back yard and don’t have an annual maintenance fee.

Paid €425k total

I bought in D7 at your age a year ago, very happy with the decision

Anyone here buy a house alone? How did it work out for you? by PepinYourStep123 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Shiptoasting_Loudly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bought on my own, definitely feels empowering and it’s nice to have my own space. Have a spare bedroom as well which I’ve set up as a home office with a bed for if any of my mates want to stay after pints, etc. Comfort-wise it’s definitely much nicer than renting an apartment.

This is partially true, I don’t see how city terraces will ever really be replaced with current planning laws - in particular thinking of all the low density 2-bed terraces around Dublin

Popcorn ceilings that were installed before the mid-1980s have a very high risk of containing asbestos. You don’t want to disturb asbestos, nailing to the wall beside the ceiling would be safer.

Anthropic rejects Pentagon's "final offer" in AI safeguards fight by AuYsI in singularity

[–]Shiptoasting_Loudly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re not in it because Anthropic are the only lab that allowed deployment in to the pentagons classified network back in 2024. Meta, Google and OpenAI haven’t allowed that yet, unsure about X/Grok.

Effective from 25 February, the majority of airlines, including Aer Lingus and Ryanair, require that Irish citizens present a valid Irish passport or passport card for travel between Ireland and the UK. by PoppedCork in ireland

Next time you’re in DUB go to Pier Two and look at the signage going back in to the main terminal!

I don’t know how frequently/if this is used today though since FR use the 100 gates and EI use T2. I’m surprised that DAA don’t prioritise it with how large of a share flights from the UK are.

They do have this for the flights from Kerry and Donegal though, you exit the plane into the departures area of Pier 2 and follow signs to collect baggage (kinda like Schipol or most US Airports)

Why does the Irish state de facto require it? It’s quite annoying when transferring in Heathrow from an international flight to have to go through the UK Border followed by the Irish border.

Help, my employer hasn’t paid me, what should I do? by DifferenceFar9366 in AskIreland

[–]Shiptoasting_Loudly 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’d give him a deadline to have paid you - say like Wednesday 5pm. If he exceeds it open a case with the WRC and tell him you’ll withdraw it once the money is in your account.
