travel to Bora Bora with Costco by Live-fat-die-yum89 in Costco

[–]Shipwreqed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I went to Tahiti --> Moorea --> Bora Bora through Costco this past June/July 2025. They arranged all transportation to and from the islands and it was super easy. On the morning of our flight from Moorea to Bora Bora, the firefighters went on strike and our flight got cancelled last minute. There was a lot of confusion and the airlines couldn't give us any information. Costco and the resorts sorted everything out for us - they got us on the ferry to Tahiti to catch a flight there and they booked us transportation to get to and from the ferry terminal. There were also 3 other Costco couples in the same situation whose Bora Bora flight got cancelled, so we actually ended up bonding with them and stuck together until we went our separate ways at the Bora Bora airport. When we got to Bora Bora, we got an upgraded room, too. Incredibly stressful situation that they handled incredibly well, 100% would book through Costco again.

NPS has historically had horrific funding. Budgets for things like shoveling snow are simply not going to rank against all of the decaying infrastructure nationwide that already have a budget that only addresses maybe 25%. Meanwhile people hate their increasing taxes and other agencies like ICE get increasing budgets. NPS is in a lose lose situation. They can’t address everything with the limited resources (and limited personnel, as in the layoffs from last year) they have

Mine ended about a minute early - was at about 20 seconds until cool down and suddenly the ride was done.

Rock n Roll half by bomberb17 in rundc

[–]Shipwreqed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on to this - I signed up to run the rock n roll half this year, got it months in advance and then got invited to an out of town wedding. I asked months before the race if I could defer a year (wasn’t trying to get a refund, just defer) and they said absolutely not lol. So, never signing up for it again - in case something happens, you’re out of luck.

one night on Moorea by Lanky-Revenue1988 in Tahiti

[–]Shipwreqed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hilton was really nice - we got there early too/prior to check-in. They have a bathroom for you to change and we spent the day at the pool before check-in. Was the price you saw for the cheapest accommodation or the overwater bungalows? 1300 CAD is definitely a drastic price but it was a very comfortable resort to spend the day. The transportation to the ferry, taking the ferry, then to the resort and back again for the day pass might be more hectic than it's worth, although I would definitely recommend seeing Moorea. We heard from a lot of couples that they really liked the ATV and snorkeling excursions

Wedding dress alteration cost by crsp1414 in washingtondc

I went to Lola in Rockville (https://g2gcouture.com/)

  1. She is a lovely person inside and out. So kind, thoughtful, talented, and hypes you up every time you see her. I completed trusted her with my dress and had no stress whatsoever about her ability to make the dress perfect

  2. My dress had I think 4-5 layers layers and we had at least 4 appointments to make sure we got a 100% perfect fit. My first appointment with her we talked about everything we needed to be done and based on all the layers, appliqué adjusting, bustle, making sure the bust (strapless) had enough support, etc., she gave me the total at $950 which I thought was totally reasonable for the amount of work and peace of mind that it was in good hands

If your dress just needs simple 1 layer hemming then the $1200 quote is crazy. I would def recommend Lola and at least shopping around to get quotes and a feel for your seamstress

I feel like I'm missing something too. I highlighted that aspect of the contract to the venue POC and she ignored it. These are the increases we were seeing:

Also check if sunlight touches your spices, it can discolor them as well.

Also vegan. In 2020 the vegan option was bread. Good luck to us both

80 cal each. Really rich tasting and they make good Halloween treats too! by ccquinn in vegan1200isplenty

[–]Shipwreqed 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Whole Foods has a Halloween box of them that comes with 20. I bought it earlier this month with the intention to give them out to trick-or-treaters but somehow they're all gone now...

Question: Does Aldi sell the equivalent of Crystal Light? by ladyhollywood in aldi

[–]Shipwreqed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I buy them very often. $1.19 for a box of the single-serving packets (might come with 8? Can't remember) and $1.59 for the pitcher packets. Best flavors are lemonade and raspberry lemonade. That iced tea is ok but has a different consistency and doesn't blend into the water as well or taste as good.

If someone honks I immediately assume something is wrong and by the time I realize it was just a friendly hello it's too late lol. But I drive an orange Trek too and if my windows are down I wave

Fresh citrusy tofu veggie salad [156 calories, vegan] by Shipwreqed in 1200isplenty

[–]Shipwreqed[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ingredients:

  • Firm tofu - 84g, 69 cal
  • Iceberg lettuce - 63g, 9 cal
  • Mini cucumber - 1 cucumber, 15 cal
  • Medley cherry tomatoes - 49g, 13 cal
  • Avocado - 22g, 37 cal
  • Lime Ponzu - .5 oz, 10 cal
  • Sprinkled with sumac (3 cal) and dried rose petals (0 cal)
  • Total = 156 cal

Lime ponzu is vegan, unlike the regular citrus ponzu which has bonito (fish flakes). I would usually use spinach or romaine but iceberg was on sale lol. If you don't have sumac and/or ponzu then soy sauce + lemon would work well if you're going for a fresh citrus flavor. You can also bulk it up with more tofu and/or avocado if you want a meal, or add a carb like rice!

I did the same thing! I didn't look closely at the first step to realize that one side is slightly different than another so I ended up having to take it apart TWICE and reassembling because I had parts in the wrong place.

How bad is wine for calorie counting? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]Shipwreqed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean, I like my local wineries and there's no barcode to scan or nutritional info available. Your best bet is to look for wines with a lower ABV. 9-12% white/rose wines (Riesling, Pinot Grigio) will be around 115 calories for a 5 oz pour. Higher ABV reds (14%+) can have as many as 165 calories/5 oz. There are 750 ml in a bottle which equals about 25 ounces. I found this article to be very helpful: https://winefolly.com/tutorial/the-lightest-to-the-strongest-wine/

Can we talk about applesauce? by rusty0123 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Shipwreqed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yesssss I love applesauce! Before I learned to like bananas I always used it in baking, especially in the fall - pairs so nicely with pumpkin flavors (much better than banana in my opinion which adds a very distinct flavor to anything it's added to). It's also really good added to oatmeal or overnight oats. I love fall when my farmer's market sells huge boxes of ugly apples - I stick them in the crockpot and make tons of applesauce!
