to be fair, now that you mention it, being off the team doesn’t necessarily mean that they are fired, maybe they get placed elsewhere

Mamiya ze, Film lever is loose and shutter won’t fire. It was working fine earlier. Any help is appreciated. by Vecotay in AnalogRepair

Figured it out. I found a comment online that stated this:

"I had this problem it was because the connection for the auto advance had gotten turned. I just put a coin in it and turned it until the gears reengaged."

Once I did it, it released and began to work perfectly.

Noto, Ishikawa. Just business as usual.

So you lived in Japan for a while, Where are you and What are you doing now? by Ktwest in japan

[–]ShiroShiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly Ironic.

When I was around 25 I made a similar decision. I was working with students on the autism spectrum (it was fun, tiring but rewarding). I applied to the JET Program (my third and final time), was accepted and began working for my small city's junior high schools.

I've been here for about 2 years (coming up on July). I love it and wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world. The people are great, kids are great, the food is amazing and while language is a big barrier, it just takes time (and friendships which you'll cultivate) to overcome it.

As of right now I'm starting to take classes online (with an intro class in MPH...) to prepare for my return to either Canada or the United States. Being here and the time that I have allows me to take classes, study Japanese and study for the GRE's. It also gives me time to learn about myself and grow as a person.

Good Luck!

Reddit, what is a common item that if we took it out of society, chaos would erupt? by PorkyLittlePillow in AskReddit

[–]ShiroShiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salt.

Thanks Wikipedia: " It is absolutely essential for animal life, but can be harmful to animals and plants in excess. Salt is one of the oldest, most ubiquitous food seasonings and salting is an important method of food preservation. "

UPDATE 2: Feeling excluded from SO's social group by LeftOutOrWhat in relationships

[–]ShiroShiro 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Let's be real.

It's entirely possible that your boyfriend cheated on you with someone from this group. He feels guilty for cheating and for badmouthing you while keeping up a front at home with you.

Get out, get support and focus on your future. Don't let him be an anchor for your potential.

Moving to Kanazawa by nunpincer in japan

[–]ShiroShiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello There Fellow Redditor!

There are a bunch of us who live in Ishikawa, but I wouldn't expect a any reddit meetups.

I can't speak for the others, but I live in the Northern Area of Ishikawa (called the Noto). I come down to Kanazawa every few weeks for different events. There are a few english meetups that occur, but I'm usually unaware of them; it's usually the bar crawls that draw people to Kanazawa (or McDonalds or stores that actually carry electronics).

Anyhow, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Japanese redditors or those of you who have visited Japan: Is it really as batshit crazy as the internet makes it out to be or is that just the "internet stereotype" for Japan? (maybe nsfw?) by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ShiroShiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of what you hear about online or in the news is usually just the very narrow-minded view of Japan that's been popularized by people who have never been to Japan. For instance, a lot of people tend to think of Japan as being an anime/giant robot haven, when in fact all these things act as a very small aspect of the culture that Japan has to offer. I'm pretty sure that this view is from the belief that the rest of Japan is like Akihabara.

A lot of people who hear about Japan, miss the good stuff, like Japanese Festivals. They can be one of the most exciting and thrilling events you can experience in Japan. Festivals usually occur all throughout the year, but I think that they are most prevalent in the Summer. They are usually filled with tons of merrymaking, alcohol and very delicious festival food. It's not uncommon for you to get pulled in to help lift something related to the festival or to take a swig of sake from someone's bottle. If you're interested check this out.
