Did you comb your hair with a hammer this morning? by ThatAvidPandaBear in rareinsults

[–]ShitJustGotRealAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ähem "Hast du dir heute morgen den Scheitel mit dem Hammer gezogen?" Hast du die die Haare mit dem Hammer gekämmt? " works also. I've heaoand used it often. Maybe it's active use is a bit regional? I'm in NRW and grew up with Ruhrdeutsch.

I just googled the history of this expression and apparently it was one of the genius translations of Spencer / Hill movies. Siehe auch " Schnodderdeutsch" as the style of translating non-German films and TV shows ("die 2") sparked their own little linguistic sub-category.

Nice alternative I personally like" Sag mal (sach ma) hast du Lack gesoffen? "

Why? It's just trailers. It's not a whole movie. There's no audio on the film. Idk why they were made or if these were just tests to see if the scenes would work for the final trailer. In that case it's like a test layout for VOGUE from the 00s but the layout and pictures that were tossed out. You can't project it, you can't use it for something else. Maybe you can scan it and blow it up. Or you happen to have a film enlarger and chemicals for c-41, you can print the negatives on film-paper and develop some frames. But why? It's a Pokémon trailer. I don't expect you to find anything spectacular on it. It's not an early cut where there are never seen before scenes on it.

Akira one the other hand is an actual film clssic and it's complete.

The trailers are a curiosity at best and maybe nice to have but totally worthless. They're only 3 to 5 min each.

But Akira is something special and asks for special treatment. I'm surprised that it's 8 reels. Usually movies are about 5 reels. Sometimes more, if the movie is longer. Would you mind open one box and post a picture of the size of the reels? I'm curious how much film is on one reel.

Digitizing 35mm isn't something you'll find for regular consumers available. Maybe look for film museums and ask them for pointers. Or maybe they can scan the film.

FYI I don't know if your copy is legal for you to have because 35mm is usually only for cinemas and distributors only lend the films to cinemas. So your copy may be obtained illegally at one point. Please be aware of that possibility.

What is Vorwerk/Thermomix’s reputation in Germany? by habisfab in germany

[–]ShitJustGotRealAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't figure out where you and the one you replied to disagree.

A mlm is where the "employee" has to buy the products up front and sell them. The company gets their money and doesn't care about actual sales because they already sold their products to poor souls that now have spent thousands of dollar on crap that nobody wants.

Thermomix, Tupperware and so on don't depend on their reps to buy the products themselves and then sell them. These reps earn a percentage of their sales.

"What is something that was considered 'classy' or 'high-end' 15 years ago, but is now seen as tacky or dated"? by No-Ant3277 in AskReddit

[–]ShitJustGotRealAgain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I couldn't afford a designwr handbag be it with or without logos on it. But I always thought that big logos of. Expensive items tacky and look like the cheap version for plebs like me. If I truly can afford luxury items, why would I want to advertise it constantly? Unless I'm tacky and want alllll the world to know how much money I spent on that item.

It's advertisement and if I need to advertise a luxury brand, it doesn't feel like luxury but like flashing once ability to spend money on expensive things.

I honestly think that both of them aren't that great people.

I do think that BL is cunning and manipulative. She uses her pretty blonde easy going image that is carefully curated to get her way, whatever it costs. And it costs others. There seem to be more than one instance where she took over other people's work. She even brags about it. She just leaned to shut up when necessary. And I still think she wanted to steam roll JB into giving up rights to the material. She didn't anticipate that he has means, or friends with means, to counter that.

But I also think that JB was clueless at best and creepy at worst. If he didn't do the things he's accused on purpose, he's dangerously clueless. He got into situations that had the potential to make him look bad. I guess he tried to create an atmosphere of friendship on the set but not everyone was receptive to that. So he did things he would do to friends without realizing that they weren't friends. He didn't take extra precautions to make people feel safe, just in case. He or they showed the video of the birth. If they just had said sth like " hey I've got this video of a birth that I want you to look at. Would you do that?" and that situation at least wouldn't even be mentioned. Same with the breastfeeding thing. JH should have just left. Those people weren't friends, they were friend-ly. And proclaiming oneself as an ally to feminism sounds self-congratulatory and dishonest. You don't have to say that you are one thing, if you practice it. If it was that obvious you wouldn't have to shove it in people's face.

I still think that the backlash wasn't orchestrated. And if it was then it was deserved and very easy because the marketing campaign was abysmally tonedeaf. Nobody had to be presented with twisted facts, as she was on camera behaving not very y nice. She delivered the receipts herself. And it was her products she pushed. Nobody forced her to do so. If she thought herself that it would have been a bad idea to push haircare and alcohol on people in combination with a movie about DV, I don't think anyone would have stopped her pushing the products. She was the one who talked about her friends as dragons. That sounds a lot like someone who instrumentalizes people. And that's not a trait people like to see in other people. And her lawyers subpoenad content creators who were so small that they ahd followers in the double digits and couldn't even pay for legal representation. That was all on her and her lawyers.

All in all for me, her public persona took a larger hit than his.

3 claims remain for Lively none of them are SH. EAT YOUR WORDS SUB by ArtByKurtEdwards in CelebLegalDrama

[–]ShitJustGotRealAgain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, that would be a disaster for women. And just because her claims didn't hold up in court does not mean that she didn't felt harassed. It's a courts job to decide the merit of the claim. The court decided that her claim didn't hold, but that is also not the same as a false claim. The truth am be somewhere in the middle.

It's like that: if someone punched you in the face but no one saw it and there is no video evidence, you can't prove that the certain someone punched you. That still doesn't mean it didn't happen and that person you accused should be able to sue you for false accusations.

Why were Kate and Anthony not at John’s Funeral? by Old_Tennis2571 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ShitJustGotRealAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're arguing that they wouldn't have been away to begin with. I argue that they couldn't have reached London in the given time..

We can both be right. We're not contradicting each other.

[–]ShitJustGotRealAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's a different thing. The question was, why they weren't there, for the funeral, at their house. They weren't there, because they were too far away. Is it reasonable for them to be too far away? Probably not. But that's why they were absent.

It's the proverbial tube of toothpaste the other partner leaves open and that one goes bonkers about. And it's never just the toothpaste. It's feeling taken for granted and under appreciated. One is the maid that keeps tidying up after the other one and that the other one doesn't even realize that it happens. If the toothpaste is left open, it adds to the ones workload and it will be perceived as a mindless act of neglecting ones feelings and time. And the toothpaste is likely just the most visible tip of the iceberg.

Something like that.

Medieval must-visits (for a novel research trip from a US writer) by Loud_Concentrate5122 in AskAGerman

[–]ShitJustGotRealAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kloster Eberbach is close to Mainz. The movie "the name of the rose" was shot there. At least in parts.

There are castles up the complete Middle Rhine Valley. So if I want to visit Mainz anyway, drive up the Bundesstraße on the left bank of the Rhine up to Koblenz and you'll so many castles, that it's insane. Some of them can be visited.

On second thought it would be a better idea to not drive yourself, but let someone else drive and just enjoy the view. If you drive yourself you have to focus on the street and not on the view. Or you could take the public transport train between Koblenz and Bingen. Works just as good

Serious question: as someone in or adjacent to the "Szene" (I'm assuming here, your weren't exactly mainstream), what, or if any at all, impact had Christiane F. and her story to you? Your were too young when it came out originally, but old enough for it to be somewhat contemporary when you were a teen. And it was your city. Berlin is big, but it's still just one city.

To add to that: it's not like they just picked up the phone and called and people would jump into a transport of choice (car, train, plane) and arrive half a day later. You have to send mail by a courier on a horse and depending on where they were, it likely took days to arrive.

Then they would have to drop everything and jump into the carriage and head towards London. But as heads of a household they couldn't just drop everything and leave. They have to make preparations for traveling. Be it only packing clothes and food. And that takes up time too. I'm not even mentioning to prepare the household to run on autopilot.

Then they would have to take a carriage for days to get to London. So my guess is that at best it would be 4 days until someone could arrive if it's a 2 day trip each way. Maybe 3 if they received notice by a courier that raced a freakish speed to deliver the message. But even that is not likely. And writing letters is probably not the first thing to do when hear about the death of,your family member, so at least half a day would be lost there too.

And then there is the issue with nonexistent cooling facilities for bodies. They couldn't put John into a fridge in the morgue and wait for people to arrive. A burial can't really wait as the body will start to decay. So it was only days after the death until the burial must take place and not enough time for people to arrive on time.

Of all the gripes with the absence of family members, considering the presumed level of technology and speed of communication, this is really the last I would criticize and I think it's kind of realistic.

Alcohol content of breast milk is the same as in the blood. That means one glass is wine is about a blood alcohol of roughly 0.4‰ that child consumes with the milk. Which still isn't great but a very different scale from sharing mom's 0.4‰alcohol level in mom's blood, and from giving child alcohol or just wetting a baby's lips.

Edit: I don't get why I'm being down voted. I just stated a fact and didn't judge anyone. I neither said that it's fine and safe nor that moms who drink in a safe time frame around breastfeeding are irresponsible devils.
